Default Doing a Presentation for Class and...

    Hey you guys,
I'm taking a class called Schools and Society (I'm studying to be a teacher) and for a project, we have to do a presentation to the class for about 7 min or so and teach them something. I've decided to do mine about one of my favorites, exotic dancing, but I don't know exactly what I should cover. I've decided that I'm going to delve into the history of Lola Montez, the burlesque dancer, very briefly, but I don't know what else to talk about. Any key terms/concepts that I should teach the class?
Guys, I'm your messanger. Any info you want me to make known to the public about stripping, well, this is the right opportunity. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
    Much love, Lola (aka-Debi)

Egyptians (lots and lots of wall paintings of naked and nearly so dancers) did it, Romans (the Empress Theodora was a dancer, but NOT a good role model, in spite of some watered down history textbooks' treatment of her)did it, as well as many, many other cultures, and not all of them thought it was naughty or bad. Look into Josephine Baker, too, for more modern history.

For what it's worth, there are some of us out here who are really trying to create art, believe it or not (none of my friends do, until they have seen me work--and some, damn their jaded hides, not even then).

I think what would be more interesting educational maybe even controversial would be the history of Exotic dancers link:
and how Christianity screwed up the world with guilt about nudity and time permitting how people where warm enough were naked and semi naked in there natural state and people in the tribal societies that haven't been corrupted by the guilt control mechanism of Christianity dance naked in tribal ritual and are very beautiful and how the popes a dope for telling the catholics of the world not to use condoms so the can bring more starving children into the world. Well the last part might be a bit much but once I get on the subject I get passinate. For seeing nudity and being nude is the natural state and guilt about it the unnatural state and cause mental illness that dancers help fix. You may just want to stay with the history of Exotic dancing the link I gave you has lots of interesting stuff in it and may be enough for your article. But if you want to find out more on each time from just enter it into a search engine or Encyclpedia. It is very entering.

I had to do an oral presantation in my human realtions class.... So I gave my report on the human realtion skillls needed to be a dancer...
I was very surprized at how well it went over, and how many girls after were asking me every question you can think of...
My instructor was floored and had no idea the amount of time we really spend talking and using "people skills" to do our job......
So many in my class thought that is was stage work, and then just "wanna dance?"
I aced my report and gave my class alot of insight to what it is we really do...Alot of them never realiezed we pay for our own outfits, pay house fees, bring our own music ect......
I know yours is going in a different direction, looking more at the History of this, I think you'll find it is a great topic and you'll get a millon questions......... I wish you the best of luck with it.........

Hi read all you can about Burlesque. Your library should have great books. I have read a few bios. Burlesque was not in the same category as stripping though. It was ritzy, and considered an art by most.
I love burlesque, and very seldome did a nipple peek out. Burlesque (and your talking history, right)? dancing was not anything like strippers. Great reading, i read 2 books. Shit if i can't remember the name of them, but they told about the life of one woman who lived the life. Burlesque back then was more like a great musical, with powerful men and frilly clothes, lots of makeup, and swinging around. Very much an art form to me. I have read about burlesque for a few years off and on, i love it.

Start with the library, and then maybe Amazon.com
    Good luck, Pamela

Don't forget that belly dancing (I think) actually was for other women. I mean, when you're in a harem with a ton of other women, what else is there to do?
