    Default People you know?!

I will start dancing in a few weeks and am sure I will probably run into some men that I know. How do you deal with this? IRL (in real life) no one would ever expect me to be a dancer and I'm sure I would feel a little awkward if they were to see me. I will be nervous anyway in front of strangers. Thank you for any advice.

Here a just a few things to remember.

While dancers are stereotyped...so are customers. I've never had a friend i knew outside of the club see me in the club and say anything and have it get back to me.

If it's an aquantences of yours or of your families, you may need to hide. Just tell your management, they'll even let you miss your set.

Don't try to hide that you are dancing from the important people in you life if you plan to dance for a long time. Most find out eventually, best they hear it from you.

Finally and best of all - idiots that wanted to fuck you in high school WILL SPEND LOADS ON YOU NOW!!

I am going to have to agree with most of what Lizzie had to say. When I worked clubs that were local to my hometown, I had arrangements with management that I could hide out if people I knew came in (like my dad, or a former teacher, or something). A couple of males that I was friends with, whom I would have been uncomfortable dancing in front ot, were quite understanding when I told them where I worked and asked if they would avoid coming in during my shifts. A few others that didn't bother me at all, I actually asked them to come in and hang out, so that I always knew I would have at least one person tipping, and if the place was dead, I had someone to talk to.
Otherwise, you can take the "I don't know you route". Or you can take measures to change your appearance - wigs, colored contacts, etc - which I have seen many girls do. There's also the direct "I would prefer you did not mention this to anyone" tactic. And last of all, there is always the option of just acting casual and normal about it - it's a "no big deal" thing.

See that's like the biggest thing that has me worried sick about dancing. I'm so scared that my Dad or someone my Dad knows will be a customer at the club I work at. The one upside is that I more than likely won't run into anyone that I went to high school with since i don't live in that city anylonger. I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does. Have any of you ever ran into people that you know from way back? How did they handle it?
