    Default Main Reason???

What was the main reason you started dancing? Money? Ego boost? combo of both? or another reason all together? Just curious!
In all honesty my main reason was, I am a shameless HAM LOL and love to be the center of attention, when I realized how good the money was...... well I just stayed!!! never really meant to still be stripping 9 almost 10 years later! It sucked me in LOL
And a Question for those of you who have been in the business awhile....
Do you feel the same now as you did about the business when you first started or do you find yourself more cynical and jaded? bitter?? or happy with your chosen life?
I for one am happy and I don't think I would change much of anything I did I don't regret choosing this line of work at all, any one else feel the same way?

Can't wait to hear your responses!

    Complicated question.

When I first started stripping, I was very young. I couldn't work in any place even close to legal - I was obviousely way underage. So I ended up working at borderline massage parlours and illegal membership only type places. At the time I saw it as something that was fairly self destructive, but also as an investment in my future because I did save a hell of a lot of money.

When I turned 16 and could legally get a real, minimum wage job, I did. I swore that I would never dance again. I finished high school, moved around the country, and wound up a little short of cash in california. I had a business and didn't want to sacrafice all the time that goes with a real job, so I decided to dance just till I got back on my feet. Well, that was like 3 years ago.

I still have my business and I dance a couple weeks out of the month (more or less as needed). I see dancing as a very positive thing now. Because I dance I can have fun with my business instead of worrying about numbers as much as some people have to. Because I dance I was just able to put half down on the house that I just bought. Because I dance I can go out of town for trials and seminars without worrying about vacation time like a real job. Because I dance, I can make amost any vacation at least pay for itself (Hawaii's next on my list). Because I dance I'll be able to go back to school next semester without taking out any student loans or anything.

Dancing is a very good thing for me right now. :-)

Actually i still havent' started dancing as of yet. But my main reason for wanting to pursue a career in exoticdance is because of the long term financial growth that I can accumlulate from it. I really want the money to work and grow for me. I hate seeing women who dance, and then retire and have nothing to show for it. I want my time spent on stage to be put in the form of real estate and investments.

started dancing to put myself through college. after college dancing was still better money than i could make doing anything than involved my degree.
beyond that - i enjoy the freedom of dancing. the way it allows me to set my own schedule around what i need and (like Lena) it allows me to take essentially paid for vacations.
as for being more jaded or cynical... i think that it's something that's come with age more than dancing. when i talk to my friends who aren't dancers they are just as sarcastic and cynical about the the state of the world and (usually) whatever job they've been doing for the last 7 years.
i still enjoy dancing. yeah, i make fun of it. yeah, i wax sarcasic on many an occasion. but overall it's still a lot more fun (for me) than sitting in an office doing paperwork.

Actually I did not started dancing because of money or freedom (that's the reason for being still a stripper), I lost a bet and I would have lots of financial troubles after paying it, however, the girl who won the bet told me that she would accept the money I could get for a shift as a stripper...I found my vocation, lol

I stay b/c I love my freedom. I love being able to go anywhere at anytime....I dont have to put in a 2 week request or not be able to go b/c I have no more vacation time left. I love being able to come in and meet my financial goals rather than wait for a check that my employer could have screwed up.
I really dont want to leave stripping right now. I like where I am and where I am going.

    A dare from some gf's!!!!!

And yes. Now that i am not 21 or 31 anymore, i have regrets showing, as i try to keep other areas seperate from what was my dancing. If you ask me i will tell you. If you don't ask at this point, i am not telling. I am just tired of the "OMG, you did that, why...Shit". Amoung other reasons. Mainly finding a stable relationship with a man who BELIEVES i will not stray from him.

I have the same prob... Why is it so difficult for a man to conceive that a dancer can be loyal, faithful and in love? Is it because they think we are all “promiscuous, or is it really their own imbedded insecurities.

    Money...money money.

I've grown to like the attention, but I hated it for the first year or so. I'd tone down my shows if people were clapping too loud!!!

    I stay for...the money.

    Very interesting thread...

I've come to this site primarily to find out what strippers are like. I've never really known or dated one (that I knew about!). But...I met a stunning beauty awhile back who wanted to go out, and told me she was, and that peaked my interest. I have no problem dating or even marrying a girl who's been a stripper. But...after reading alot of these threads, it seems like there could be alot of emotional damage to some women who do it...certainly not all, but some. Important to know the "behind the scene" reality. I'm learning!

I think the attraction to me was the money, which is just paper, but my god it's freedom and independence. The philosopher Epicurus, who was actually all about not needed too much luxury but the basics for a satisfying life, said that the 'acquistion' list for happiness includes friends, freedom, thought, food, shelter, clothing.

Unfortunately for me, I love the student life, but the pursuit of 'thought' these days for the intrinsical value alone doesn't lend itself to financial independence. A life of 'poverty' might have been great for Socrates, but even he could afford to feed and take care of his family. At school, working a min. wage job, even with my scholarship, I was struggling. My parents and I have a destructive relationship, and frankly I needed to be free of dependence upon them. Dependence on loans would also be stressful. Dancing is flexible hours, more money than I could expect from any other part time job I'd be qualified for, and will hopefully allow me to plug away through grad school without starving (most grad students in philosophy live around the poverty line and end up getting second jobs).

Being in school until you're thirty and then struggling to find a job- that's not freedom exactly. So, it sounds counterintuitive to be an ethics major with a dancing gig on the side, but it actually makes perfect sense to me. Classical deontologial ethics is far and away more logical than the irrational moral leanings of folkways.

Makes complete sense to me. One of the practical probs with Greek benevolent aristocrat philosophy is that deep down, everyone wants to be the benevolent aristocrat leading a fulfilled life, rather than the recipient of benevolence...right. It's hard to beautify the world if you can't take care of your own food, clothing, and shelter - or you lack significant freedom. Good post mollyzmoon.
