    Default Hired ...but....

I just don't know about this place. I'm supposed to start tomorrow. I did my audition, went back in the dressing room to change, and said something to the girls sitting in there and I think I pissed one of them off. I really didn't mean to, and I felt bad, but then I figured they were day girls anyway and I was hired for nights. But I was talking to one girl and she was telling me on Friday and Saturday nights the doormen go to the nightclub next door, and don't even walk the girls out to their cars. What the hell is that? There wasn't even a doorman period at the time I was there. I'm thinking I need to look elsewhere....

What'd you say to the girl? I wanna know!

I would go ahead and give the club a shot, get into a working groove, and just keep your options open.

Insist on having someone walk you to your car, or be in the parking lot, or use the buddy system. They should know better than that!

You must have someone walk you out to your car, or get a ride to and from. Also go with your intuition. It usually never lets us down. Pamela

Ok, I got this in the right spot now, I was wishing you luck and you already got the job!

Don't worry too much about the day girl who seemed pissed. There are several possible explanations.

    1) If you are very attractive you are just going to get women who don't like you, they are jealous, they see you as a threat to their income, and you can't change that.

    2) This is a very tough business, and some people are bitter and burned out, especially if they just had a lousy day. If you are all excited and having fun and happy they might get a little sarcastic. This will be more prone to happen if 1) applies as well.

    3) Sometimes, like in the army or other peer group situations, there is a 'testing' period. People will mess with you to see what you're made of, its not necessarily as personal as it seems.

In any or all of these situations you're better off not letting it get to you, smile and go your own way. Its pretty hard to keep being nasty to someone who remains pleasant, especially if everyone else sees that. Also I have witnessed many, many feuds, and many out and out catfights. I have been amazed at how often dancers who have initially fought like hell can wind up being friends later (though not always, and the catfights almost never forgiven).

But do tell Collettecall about it and she will guide you, she is very cool, very smart, and can help you much more than I could.

I can tell you not to EVER walk to you car by yourself.

And please keep the beautiful name Liberty as your stagename. I would love to work with a Liberty, I could do a lot with that name!!

Thank You dj! It was really stupid actually, I went in and with sarcasm said something like "woohoo I got a dollar!" Apparently bitching in the locker room don't pay well, cuz she gave me a real dirty look and said something about having 4 more than that and she had been there since 2.

My thought though is that they are not very concerned with the safety of their dancers 1.) to allow the doormen to go to the nightclub and drink when they are supposed to be working and 2.) not even having doormen at all in the afternoon. Every place I have ever been, you'd be fined if you went to your car without a doorman. And I wouldn't do it anyway!

What club do you work at if you dont mind my asking? That sounds ALOT like the club I work at. During the day our female manager plays the role of security!

Oh, is that like when I started working at the dude string and they decided Dallas who stands 17.2 hands or 5'10" at the shoulder would be a good guide horse for me? Or even better, when Dallas was getting new shoes and I got Mister Ed, the psycho horse? Silly girls didn't plan on me liking Mister Ed.

Heee hee, I can so deal with bitchy girls. I am the ultimate stubborn pain in the arse.

    That's funny, Smurfalicious...

I had a girlfriend whose wealthy parents took us to a very exclusive dude ranch in Arizona. This one guy was a real arrogant smart ass who was bribing the hands for the best horse every day even though it was supposed to be first come, first serve. He got there whenever he wanted, and made a big show of dramatically putting on these 400$ suede gloves before mounting up.

I made a nasty little crack about him, but was a punk just out of college, and had no bribe money, so the old timers running the show gave me "Ballbuster" or something like that, to show me the ways of Karma.

Not being a skilled rider, such as yourself, I was of course thrown the moment that horse knew I was starting to relax. Fortunately I didn't hit any of the cactus or big rocks liberally strewn in the path, but did get the wind totally knocked out of me, causing the entire group to stop, and the doctor who was with us to dismount and tell me not to move as I might have injured my back.

Well, that was good advice, but I was too busy thrashing around trying desperately to get air of any kind or quantity back into my lungs, to pay much attention. My embarassment was continued that night in the large dining hall when the kid at the next table started telling everyone about the grown man who couldn't keep from falling off his horse.

Sorry, this is off topic, but I couldn't resist.

Liberty, from the sounds of it you don't have to worry about that dancer, she clearly had a lousy day and was just disgusted about it. She may have been scowling at that more than at you, even. I don't know, I wasn't there, but it'll probably work out.

Its not too surpising that there is no day security, unless its a big club, I have seen that before, but other than that it sounds like they need to be looking out for you a lot better!

Good luck there! I hope it turns out all right.
