Where in Canada are you? I'm in Ontario if that's any help and I've danced nearly 9 years.

You can work with traditional themes like the school girl or an army theme.

From that you can think of music that give that appearance...like any theatrics. But I would maybe not start right away with props.

I am guessing you are going to start with tabledancing or are you in western canada and plan to begin the showgirl circuit? The biz varies GREATLY from east to west - more details please?
I have worked both ends e/w/n/s and probably have a few pointers and would love to help!

VANCOUVER ah yes, Theres like 200 slots and 3000 dancers to fill them! Balance is in the clubs favor so they abuse that. The showgirl circuit or are you gonna try Brandy's? What agency did you hook up with? Stripper or Deluxe? Did they send u out on the amatuer contest circuit yet? Do u have a fellow dancer u can hook up with and do the buddy system? Often the agency will help out by booking u both at the same clubs week after week until u are more confident on your own.
I laughed when u said removing the hair from your arms.....lol, that shouldnt be cause for concern unless it is amazingly obvious, or your skin is super white and your hair is super thick and black! Hell, we all have arm hair! hee hee! That should be the least of your concerns. ANyway let us know...

and the reason i asked about arm hair is because i've heard people say remove hair from the neck down. I'm fair so no arm waxing for me(whew)!!!

Hi - what kind of info are you looking for? I'm in Van and although I stopped dancing 6 months ago I'm pretty sure the scene hasn't changed any. First off, you need to decide if you want to work the circuit or do the vip/house dancer thing. If you are going circuit, then you will want an agent - in addition to Stripper and Deluxe that Leigh mentioned above, there is also That's Talent that book here in town. If you are going circuit you will usually be required to book 6 nights in a row Mon-Sat and should be prepared to travel some (over to the island, etc.). 20 min sets are the norm, full costumes, combination pole and floor work, the usual for this area. I know that Stripper will book you for an amateur night first off, I think they pay $50, and then will book you if you look good.
Your other option is the VIP/private dance route - scheduling is way more flexible, but the money isn't guaranteed. You will generally pay a house fee and do private shows to earn your $$'s. Some stage work may be required depending on the club. Mainly air dancing, but a couple clubs do the contact thing - don't believe contact is legal anywhere except the Paramount where there is no alcohol, but the No. 5 has been getting away with it forever. Money varies a lot - can be really tough at times.
Let me know what you would like info about, and I can certainly help you out.

    hi thanx for helping
well i'm not sure which way i'd like to go i would like an agent but i don't like the idea of traveling. i don't drive. and i dan't know anyone to travel with. i was also wondering how to go to an amateur night just to try it out. i'm afraid i'll freak on stage and not be able to do it. are all clubs completely nude. any places that have steady dancers, or do they al rotate. do you know some dress codes at different clubs.and where can you buy outfits locally
    well thanx

    np...happy to assist
If you don't want to travel, then why not just try working at one of the clubs? Most of them are doing VIP these days, I know for sure that Brandi's, Cecil, Drake, No 5, Penthouse, and Paramount do. What part of the city are you in? Most of the amateur nights are out in the suburbs - I know that there is one at the Barnet sponsored by Stripper, but if you want to work at a club just go in and check it out. You might find that doing private shows are less intimidating than being on stage until you get the hang of things. Have you been to any of the clubs in the city? You can always just go in have a couple drnks and talk to some of the girls there to get a feel for the place.
As far as dress codes - you would have to check with the club, I know that Brandi's and the Cecil both used to require the girls to wear white outfits, and "stripper" shoes/boots (stilettos, platforms, not street wear). Alexis of California on Granville cateres to strippers, but can be overpriced and the quality isn't great. Scalie Shoes has a good selection of shoes and boots. If you are just doing VIP you can also generally get away with some cute lingerie - you can also find outfits at some of the "love shops" - Davie Street is a good place to look.
And yes, Vancouver is all nude - there was once a lingerie bar called Teasers, but it's been closed forever.
Well, that's a start - feel free to message me with more questions if you like.

You do not need an agent if you are not planning on working the circuit. In fact, the disadvantage to having an agent would be the "paper trail" in that all of your earnings will be documented, and stage tipping just doesn't happen here unless there are Americans in the club. Tattoos and piercing are definitely not a problem in this city, although I would take the nose ring out, or replace it with a tiny stud. I just don't think the rings look very feminine. I have both nipples and navel pierced, and tattoos on my tummy and lower back, and I really only ever received compliments on them. Of course there may have been some that didn't like them, but it just wasn't a big deal. The nipple rings were always good for conversation, and I got a very favorable response when playing with them with my tongue on stage
Have you been to any of the local clubs?

    Hi again pepper,

I like the name, and it's somewhat original - if you like it, I say keep it.

I can't help you with web shopping, as I always wanted to try stuff on and see how it looked on me, but I don't think I've seen any Canadian based clothing sites. Don't spend a bunch of money on outfits before you start though, wait until you know where you are working, what rules (if any) they have, and what works well for the girls before investing in clothes.

Tip outs/house fees vary from clubs and can either be based on a flat house fee to the club taking a certain amount from each dance. Flat house fees can be brutal when you are first starting out, I have seen many girls owe the club money at the end of a slow night, bad enough to work for free, worse when you lose $$'s.
As in any city, drugs and extras are a problem in some clubs, but not in others.

For the why I'm not dancing anymore, see my post under the "retirement blues" thread.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to dance? What are you doing now?

Oh, and once again - feel free to message me if you want more Van-specific info. Probably don't want to fill up a whole thread with stuff that doesn't relate to anyone outside of the area. I'll defer to the forum moderator's judgement on that one

i want to start dancing because i love dancing and getting attention. And i like that i can dress up and kind of live my own fantasy of a seductress or something(It's not only guys who can fantasize. )
I plan to go to school to be a dental assistant. I've wanted to be a stripper since i've been 13. (and no i wasn't like those girls on jenny jones) i was actually pretty chubby and insecure. and i've also been putting dance outfits and dances together since grade 5 (i wouldn't strip at this age though)
I think i would totally love dancing and a few people have said that i should be a dancer(including my dads g-friend) but they are scared about drugs and dirty men but i don't think its all like that. THe girls on this board seem independant nice and friendly. So i know i can look the other way, but people still worry.
And i think i should at least give it a try since i've wanted to do it for so long. who knows i may freak and never go back.
I also thiink most dancers i've seen looked beautiful dancing and i guess in a way it would be awesome to feel that beautiful. i know stripping doesn't make you beautiful but if you treat it right it might
    well thanx for listening
