    Default commute to vegas

Hey. I read on this forum that alot of girls commute to Vegas from CA? Can you tell me how to do this? Do you fly to Vegas? It is a FAR drive, and if you are paying for a plane ticket, I imagine the money is THAT GOOD? Where do you stay, and do you rent a car? What clubs do you work at in Vegas? Do the clubs allow you to work the same day you audition? What is a Sheriffs card? Is that the equivalent of a dancers license?

I guess I can answer this since I worked in Vegas for a few years as a DJ/Manager. Most LA area girls that commute do fly and tickets on one of the charters/shuttles can be as cheap as $50 but then you have cab fare to add in so its about as cheap to drive. For a dancer that does much travelling, the LA to Vegas drive is cake. A few years back MOST of the dancers that I knew stayed at the Best Western across from Stardust (near Sahara and LVB) since it was close to OG and CH2 and had weekly/multiday rates. I think nowdays you can stay at one of the Major hotels about as cheap tho. Treasure Island/Mirage have the best parking arrangements if you drive/rent a car.

Getting a sherrifs card can take from 3 hours to 2 days depending on how busy they are but once you got it,,,,,it's simply a matter of keeping it current. Yes , it's the equvilent of a license and consists of fingetprints/quick record check and ID verification.

Once you get your Sherriffs card most clubs will let you audition and work the same day depending on the house girl load. The WORST Day to try to start work is Saturday so schedule around that.

When I worked at Crazy Horse Too, there was a whole group of girls that would drive from L.A. together. They all worked at the same club in Los Angeles too. What is nice about driving is that you still have a car to drive and you can go back home to L.A. any time you want. For accomedations, I would definitely recommend staying at Extended Stay America on Valley View, near the Rio. It's centrally located, safe, apartment-like, and relatively inexpensive compared to hotels. If you are going near a convention time, I would definitely make reservation though. As this is "short-term corporate housing," alot of times conventioneers stay there. There are kitchens, laundry facilities, a pool, cable tv and pay-per-view. It's pretty close to the Strip too, which makes it very convenient.

I commute every other weekend during the busy seasons. When I lived in SF, I obviously flew. When I lived in LA, I'd either fly or drive, depending if I caught a good deal or not. Now that I'm in Phoenix, it's cheaper to fly ($70 round trip) than it is to put gas in my car.
I however, do not recommend the extended stay americas or the budget suites. I stayed there a few times and found them to be unsafe: my car got broken into EVERY time and I don't like hotels where the door opens to the outside. Personally, I'd rather spend a little more money and stay at a larger casino hotel that has indoor hallways with security cameras. I like the Stratosphere and Sahara...only a $4 cab ride to OG.

As I said before DON'T GO ALONE your first time. Also, don't expect to turn a large profit your first trip, especially if you are new to dancing and have only worked in smaller, local clubs. Since you asked about a sheriff's card, it sounds like you're not even sure about the whole hiring process up there. Rather than re-iterate, read the article on my website: www.britneyireland.com it should answer your basic questions.

As for the money, it used to be A LOT better 3 years ago. Don't get me wrong, it's still good up there, but there are a lot more clubs that have spread the customer base.

    Good luck,
    B

I agree with Britney on the Budget Suites. I think those places are horribly ghetto and very unsafe. Extended Stay America, though, I've never had a problem with. I've stayed there alot, probably nine months or so if you add all the different times I stayed there together.

The main disadvantage of the "Hotels" where you must walk thru the halls or casino to get outside is that many dancers don't like to get "hit on" or ogled by the crowd on thier way out to work. Most girls I know have always preferred a room with an outside door for this reason.

There are very few parking areas in Vegas where your car is going to be Safe but I agree that the "Motel" lots are more risky. You're usually better off to rent a car or take a cab. The Car rental agencies in Vegas are used to this problem.

Why do you say not to go alone the first time? I am not new to dancing, I would just be new to Las Vegas. Im going to look over your website, and Ill post again if I have more questions.

    I live in Phoenix now.

I wouldn't go alone on your first trip for many reasons, but mostly because travel expenses add up quickly. Allow $150-200/day for hotel, food, cab fare, and stage fees.

Also, so many girls think Vegas is an easy 2Gs a night and it's not. It's just like any other city. You might make it, or you might have a shitty night and barely make house rent.

In response to DJ Wulf...yeah, the people with kids look at me kinda funny as I walk through the casino with my money box that says "Support your local strip Club"....but I don't think Vegas is an appropriate city for a family vacation
