    Default Going Crazy Not Working

I going back to dancing at the end of the month since my accident. My ankle hurts when I try on high heels. I feel like a newbie. No offense to anyone starting out. I want to get back into upscale clubs. I also kinda got lazy since December. Should I start off again in a 2nd tier club and see if I still got to make the money that I was used to make . Or what. Should I wait a bit longer for my ankle. The doctors said there is nothing wrong with it , and all the swelling went down. I need money, I going crazy. HELP. ??? ??? ???

Try not to go back to platform stilettos, if that's what you normally wear - it's just a lot of pressure on your ankle while keeping your balance, etc... just get a lower heel (3 in, since that's the normal club minimum) with no platform. Get something with ankle straps and wrap your ankle in an ace bandage. It's not sexy looking, but you don't want to further hurt the muscles...
do the doctors say it's okay to go back to dancing? my friend broke her anke and the doc says she'll be on her feet in two weeks, but to wait an extra 4 before dancing.

How long has it been since you've not danced? Just a month? more than that? I guess the type club you go back to depends on how long you've been away and your comfort level...

    get better soon! :-/

I know how u feel. Twisted ankle last year and boots made the diff when i was determined to work. Depending on what merchants in your area have some super sexy ankle boots might work, but that also depends on your club. I found a pair that were wood, leather and metal that were allowed in a club that usually didn't allow any boots at all. They are by tonys shoes. http://www.tonyshoesinc.com/woods.htm
But what u really need is ankle stabilization. Like nyc said, an ace bandage isn't sexy, but in a very long gown maybe noone will notice. Also, sometimes clubs (DJs) make exceptions to stage appearances and will allow you to jus work the floor. This usually requires donations to the DJ fund who generally controls the stage.

Oh TiNi i highly agree with NYCjacqueline!!!! seems like it can be too much pressure too soon. And you say your ankle still hurts. Don't get too anxious hun and over do yourself. Take it slow. Let your ankle rest as much as possible, and pick a club without too many demands on you perhaps. maybe short hours to start back out again too. Lotsa Luv....Pamela~

Tini, if you really need some quick income, you might try the second tier club thing where you can get away with more comfortable shoes and setting your own pace and hours. You know as well as I do that once you're in the line-up at a first tier club they'll be on your butt every minute that you try to sit down and rest your ankles, they won't let you leave early without repurcussions later etc.

    Hi Tini,

I get a little nervous when starting back up even after a few weeks, and I absolutely HATE auditions, and that's just talking! You seem like a very resilient and spirited woman, so I'm sure you will do just fine. Try to relax and not worry (easier said than done sometimes, for me, but the more I do it, the better it goes for me). You know a lot of people on this forum are behind you all the way.

As far as the ankle goes, if you can wear boots, you should definitely do so, with an ace bandage inside where noone can see. If you are feeling a bit nervous or stressed the last thing you need is to worry about is your ankle on top of it.

I had a very severe motorcycle accident a few years ago ( it took a while to bounce back from that one!)--and have learned that sports tape is the very best thing to use, literally 2-3 times better than an ace bandage. Of course it would look ridiculous with shoes--unlike an ace bandage it is bright white, but if you can go with boots, and you wrap your ankle with this tape you will be leaping and cavorting all over the stage, the stuff is great--its what these football guys use who have no knees left, etc., and still go out and bash each other up. You can get it at any sporting goods store or most Walmart, Walgreens, etc. It is called "Sporrts Tape", plain and simple.

    Hope this helps,

    Djoser

Tini, I sprained my ankle very badly a year ago, and it took months to totally heal. I couldn't work at all for 3 weeks, and at the time I was working in a club where you come and go as you please, and really set your own pace, so that helped ALOT. When I did go back to work, I could go in for primetime, get a VIP, spend the hour with him, then take off with $300. You should definitely find a club where you can be more flexible.

For shoes/bandages, I bought an ankle support thing that looks like a sock with the toes cut out, but it's made of very thick strong fabric and it has extra reinforcement right on the ankle so it really helps support the ankle. That was better than the ace bandage. I found one in a skin tone color so it wasn't tooooo obvious, but the swelling was still noticable for three or four months. If you go to a club where you can wear boots, that would help also because it will help support your ankle while hiding your bandage and any swelling underneath. Ankle boots are pretty cool, and not as hot (sweaty) as the longer boots. I also bought a pack of those one-time use instant ice packs to carry in my workbag, the kind that don't need to be frozen, just squeeze to break the inside seal and shake to mix the chemicals and it's cold in seconds. Those things are great for emergencies at work if you happen to hurt your ankle again or if it swells from being on your feet too long. You can find those ice packs and the ankle support at most drug stores - I got both at Walgreen's.
