Default Chazz Palminteri's Take On Strippers

Found this when I was out googling around...

"I really wanted to use real strippers," Palminteri said. "I did not want to use actresses. For that, I wanted real strippers. Because there's something in their eyes, and about the way they danced, and the way they tried to take control over a man. You cannot teach somebody how to act that."

He's obviously talking about a movie he did. It was called Women VS. Men. It was on Showtime in July 2002.

""Something in their eyes huh?"" How many clubs has HE been in?

Ya know that reminds me, i was watching VH-1 the other night, and the band that did "Angel in the centerfold" is that....J-giles? Anyway i overheard them talking about the video, and they were saying they picked 'real strippers' for the video because they had a certain look, they were not even dancing. The video was awful to me. Some girls looked kinda sleazy. They were not even dancing. Confusing...yes, and not sure what the point was. It was just strange seeing these girls with tons of makeup on. Not the dancers i see now days. MissB reminded me of it with her posting. Pamela

Pam: The Song "My Angel is a Centerfold" by the J. Giles Band is 20 years old. Dancers looked different back then. Actually thats a fair representation of what dancers looked and danced like in the early 80's. MY HS Girlfriend started dancing the day she turned 18.....seems lik only yesterday but it was 17 years ago.

I was watching Oceans eleven last week and there is a scene with a stripper getting a security pass from a guy and was all cute and smiley while she was distracting him with her cleavage etc but once she had the card and turned back around the look on her face imediately changed back to normal - Someone did their homework!

    Very aware DJ_WULF,
i still dance to the song from time to time. I don't see much difference, we dancers still have short hair, wear lots of makeup, and some girls can look down right sleazy. Some prance the stage, like they were prancing down the classroom instead of actually dancing. But i just had to bring up the song and what was said about it, 20 years or not, thought it was silly, thats all. They HAD to pick strippers, but nothing about the video, implied stripping. Why pick strippers? Thats all, my thoughts.

Pam: Some of the changes I have seen in the past 20 years that affect "The Look" you see in that video vs onstage today.
1: The quality of makeup and womens ability to apply it have improved dramaticly.
2: The production budgets for music videos have increased astronomicaly.
3: Hairstyles have changed (Thank gawd).
4: The GIRLS Didn't look/Dress like that in High School. (Plot of the video)
The premise of the song is that the guys High School Girlfriend (the classroom link) is now (a few years later) naked in a magazine (presume Playboy) for everyone to see. The "clinch" line in the song is "My memory has just been SOLD". I've seen this happen in strip clubs hundreds of times over the years. A guy that the dancer had dated in High School walks into the club to see his "First Love" naked on stage. The dancer is usually embarrased but the guy is always heartbroken. It's the feeling that what a guy considered his own private fantasy is now everyones fantasy. It's the artistic way of portraying the concept that Strippers/Playboy Centerfolds are not born that way but evolve into it and, from the male perspective, why weren't they like that when WE knew them.

What makes the song a classic is it's portrayal of the fact that women change and men stay the same. The cliche "A Woman marries a man thinking she can change him and she can't ..... A Man marries a woman thinking she won't change and she does" is illustrated very well in this song/video.

I'm guessing that the inspiration for the song was indeed a Dancer rather than a "Centerfold" but it's hard to rhyme with Stripper so Centerfold was substituted ......... Poetic license.

Pamela, cuz strippers are hot 8 out of 10 times, and if they had gone with "models" those models probably couldn't dance. Plus, I think a guys ears (and other things) perk up faster when they hear STRIPPER rather than MODEL.

    I agree Pam!!

I was a young'un when that song came out, so I can't say much on what strippers looked like back then, but a lot of those videos from the early 80's were simply awful!
