Default scoping out a club beforehand

So, I'm planning to audition at Rick's in Seattle this week. My fiance and I are going tomorrow night to check it out, and I had a few questions. I want to talk to the dancers there, definitely, about how they like working there. I know I should pay them for the time they talk to me, but how much do I pay them? Also, what exactly should I be asking/looking for?

You guys are all great, thanks for your help!

I always look around to see how many dances are going on (thats a good sign if there's lots) and how much contact is on the main floor. Then assume there's a bit more in back rooms.

How much you tip the girl depends on how much time you are taking up. Don't be surprised if no one approaches you. Whenever I go out to a strip club with my fiance, girls NEVER come up to us!! Even when we have stacks of funny money sitting out!!!

I would give no less than $20 for 5 minutes of her time. If you get a dance, tip on top of it. Remember these girls might be your co workers.

Whew! Could be a tough one. Me, i would go and be a customer myself. Get chummy with a few dancers. A question..."so you like working here it seems? Act like you are not digging for personal info about the club for yourself. Me as a dancer, if i thought a lady was coming in asking me questions because she wants to work, i would say i do not talk about anything related to my job other than dancing for you. (you get the point.) Ask simple questions. Pick out a friendly looking lady. If she states she has only worked a few days/weeks you may not learn much. I would want someone who has been around awhile. They however are the ones who pick up on club questions. (at times.)
Thats about all i can give with my experience with other dancers. It is a competitive job, and some don't want newbies for the clients to check out the new menu. However, it's diferent with everyone. You may ask alot of ladies and get all the answers you want!
Lotsa luck, Pamela, Payment....depends on if you buy.

Before you talk to anyone, look at the club's advertising. How well does ownership promote the place?

Once you go in, look at the number of customers and number of dancers. You are going on a Friday night, if this is a gown club, Friday may not be the best night, if it's not a gown club, it probably will be. Make note of how your fiance is treated by the doorman, hostesses, and waitresses. The better they treat your fiance, the more money a customer is likely to spend. What are the drink prices? How efficient is the service? Have your fiance go to the mens room, and tell you how clean or dirty it is. Check out the ladies room. Look at your waitresses hands, are they clean? Look at the bar area, is it well organized and stocked?

Watch what is going on. How long are the stage appearances? Are the songs cut to a uniform length? Check the lighting. Is it flattering to you? What is the stage action like? What do the girls look like? Do you fit in with their look? Do girls do dollar dances after their stage appearance? Listen to the DJ. Does he promote private dances? (Downside, is he always calling people for sound checks? That means he has lost control of who is dancing when. It makes for a very disjointed work experience.) Watch girls are coming and going as they please, or do they appear to be on a shift schedule?

Go to the stage and tip some dancers. Watch your fiance do the same thing. See how the stage tipping and dollar dances are done. Get a few yourself. My rule is, when checking out a club, I'll go to the stage and tip at least the first time I see a dancer for as long as I'm there, and if I'm with someone, I want them to do that too. It's courteous and it really is appreciated. At least I always appreciate people tipping me, even if they are not at the rail. All the time look who is busy. Look who is making money.

Once you and your fiance feel comfortable, ask one of the money makers to stop by your table. When it's talk time ask how the dancer likes the club, if she's been other places. How this place compares. Just chat with her. Mainly you're not really listening to the answers, but the way she answers. Get a VIP or couch dance, whatever is most expensive. See what the dances are like. Talk some more about the club and work.

Have fun, but get a good feel for the place. If you are a night shift person, stay late and see how things go in the last couple of hours of the shift. If you are a day shift person, see how slow things get after lunch.

    Good luck!

One of my very good friends works there and has for 6 years.

Basically it's a club you REALLY have to hustle at, and if you can hustle..you can make anything you want.

no audition to get hired, it's owned by a bunch of horny Italian guys...if you have a vagina and weigh under 300 lbs, you are hired. You just have to get a license.

Just to let you know, the majority is VERY HIGH CONTACT! My friend often sees sex going on right next to her, her sister another friend of mine, had to clean up used condoms after the shift when she worked as a waitress there.

Its very busy, the money is yours for the taking. But keep in mind, tons of cutt throat girls....most will not be real nice at first. Juts keep to yourself and work it. My friend is very clean, and gets really pissed when she sees girls basically turning tricks in there. But she makes a lot of money a night, because she is extremely attractive and has a different look.

The lap dances are basically sex through teh clothes.

There is a website run by a Seattle dancer giving a review.
Bottom line, Seattle s ucks! This is the big money club, but it is also filled with girls, very hot girls, and the mangement turns it's head when it comes to full on sex on the floor. I couldn't work there, even with the great $$$.

    good luck!

ok, more that I forgot to add.

In Seattle, nude clubs equal no alcohol. Also, no stage tipping here. At Rick's, you will get no tips, all money is from lap dances.

The house fees here are so high. At Rick's, my friend just told me last week that they raised it to $150 a night, not including tip out.

It isn't a gown club, I've seen girls in there with anything on, combat boots, etc.

The dressing room is a closet, so try to get somewhat ready before hand.

A waitress may be able to give you really good info as well, they usually know what's going on. The dancers will probably be very busy. That place is ALWAYS hopping!

A license is $200, need it before you can dance

Wow. Thanks for being straight up, Bella. My other option is Deja Vu. I had heard some shitty things about it, so I opted for Rick's. Do you think I would be better off at the Vu? I'm definitely not into turning tricks (though I don't mind so much being around it. I just don't want it to affect my work).
There's also the Lusty Lady, downtown, more of a commute from where I am. What exactly goes on there, if anyone knows? I know its called a peep show, but I don't really know what that entails.
Thanks so much for your help everyone. I couldn't do this without support.

the Lusty Lady is a peep show - that means you work behind glass, with no actual contact with the customers. Customers come in and put quarters in a slot in a little booth, which raises the window covering so they can see the girls. The 'stage' is surrounded by these little booths, about ten of them, as I recall. Some of the booths have one-way glass, so you can't see who's in the booth, and some have two way glass, and you can smile and talk to the customers. Customers are also allowed to masturbate in the booths. I've never worked a peep show, but I've been in the Lusty as a customer, though it was several years ago.

They pay you an hourly wage there, and there is a 'tip' box on the wall the customers can put $$ in. I don't know if they actually do, or if it's just for looks. There's also a private pleasures booth (or something like that) which is more one-on-one with the customer. I don't know how much you get paid from that, or what exactly goes on. I beleive it is still behind glass, though.

The owners at the Lusty do have more stringent looks rules than the clubs I've worked in - they have a policy about tattoos and piercings and how much clothing you can be wearing at any time (I was going to apply there about three years ago, but ended up moving to Oregon before I got around to it.. I have *some* recollection of the rules but don't remember all of them..) I think it was that all tats must be covered, piercings must be okayed by management, and you could have either your breasts or your cooch covered at any moment, but not both. and you had to get nude.

There is an actual paper application you have to fill out to work there - and it is LONG. They ask all the things you'd expect, like previous experiance in the industry, real name, stage name, criminal history, etc.. and a bunch you wouldn't expect, like your comfort level with your own sexuality, with other people's sexuality, what do you think of men who patronise these places.. etc.

I thought they had a website, but now I can't seem to locate it. Ah well. You can find out a lot about it just by googling.

Now you all know why I don't dance in Seattle. The scene here suck BIG TIME. Ricks is a dump, in my humble opinion, and Lucky Lady is basically dancing naked in a glass tank for union wages. (I think they start at something like $17 an hour or something like that). The money isn't bad compared to working at a 7-11, and there's no touching or physical contact what-so-ever with the customers. However, there's also no tipping of any kind, breaks are few and far between, and you can't just sit down and have a drink and chat or flirt with a guy and take a break and rest your legs.

    Local joke:

Q: Where's the best place to dance in Seattle?

    A: Phoenix.

Easy...check it out, of course. You don't like the club scene there, move on. It's your choice in the end. You will never know if you don't try. You may be perfect for the job and like it, or hate it and leave! You have choices.
    Luck to you! Pamela

Hi, sorry, I just got home.

I would avoid the Deja Vu downtown, it's been pretty slow. I worked at a Deja Vu once up on a time...years ago, and it was fine.

They seem to take a loto f your $$$, but all of the clubs here do.

The one near Ricks is supposed to be very good, and less contact than Rick's..less of a dump.

There is a Deja Vu near the airport, I wouldn't consider it a high roller club, but they are pretty strict on contact. Also, the new manager there is WONDERFUL. Really, I love him. I worked for him once upon a time. As long as you keep your head on straight, he will treat you like gold. I never gave him problems, came in on time, kept my mind on work, and then got a lot of freedoms.

I am planning on dancing again, and am having a hard time as well. I am still getting back into shape...but almost there.

There is a topless club in Tacoma that serves alcohol..the only one that does, and I've heard good things. I live in Seattle, but would like to work not where I live.

Let us know what you plan on doing!

Rick's in Seattle? Hook up with Abriana Denise at her Exotic Dancer College website- she either works there now, or did until recently.
