of course there is the option of simply picking a name, but we're ignoring that one for now...

You'd be surprised, a lot of girls also pick car names, i.e. Mercedes, Lexus, Camry.... :o

Lily Burana wrote a very funny piece on the categories of stage names in her book Strip City.
Every club I've worked at has had a Tiffany, Lisa, Kelly, Nicole, Jennifer, Shea, Brooke (lots and lots of Brookes), Star, Gina.
What about the category of food? Candy, Cookie, Sugar, Cherry.
Or alcohol? I've worked with an Alize and a Hennesey.
One of my favorite games to play at work is to take a stripper name and find its low-cost equivelant in its category in order to find your "cheap" stripper name - ie, Diamond = "Cubic Zirconia" Mercedes = "Honda" Champagne = "Colt 45"
Colette - yes the food thing! we have a Caramel at our club.
As funny as this sounds a customer convinced a new dancer (who was very lean on her English knowledge & skills) that "Velveeta" was a pretty name. So she changed it on the spot. This was very mean of the customer, I know. So the dj was announcing Velveeta all night. Everyone kept looking around looking for maybe a feature dancer dressed up as cheese or something.
I think that jewels are the most common that I've run into- Jade, Diamond, Emmy(short for Emerald),
sapphire...

Hi there,
i would have to go with cars. one of my stage names was Mercedes when i bought one. Then i met a dancer named Vetta..of course she loved a corvette and picked that name. And now i know a girl whos real name is Lexi, named after her parents fav. car Lexus!
One more Beemer...and she wore pasties on her nips that glowed in the dark..I thought of BMW when i heard her stage name.
Yea...my vote is for the cars!
Pamela
At the club I work at there is a China, Thai, India, and a Jersey..
oh damn! i forgot the car category!
and the food one! we have a candy and a cherry or 2...
ive read lily burana's book, strip city, which is brilliantly written. fabulous. but i think she left out the drinking and drugs that also permeate our profession. i would as well if i wrote a book about our profession, as it has a bad enough stereotype as it is.
to NYCjacqueline: i heard a story about a girl that insisted upon being called VULVA. because its a part of a girl's body, right? and so it is,
but that is one unattractive name. and she wasnt even foreign, she just demanded her stage name to be that.
:]

How about the Dakota's, Montana's, and Dallas's?
Cinnamon for the food catagory too (and her sister Spice).

Montana, Savanah, Nevada, Georgia... one of these days some dancer is going to go by the name Hoboken.![]()

What are some uncommon ones ya'll have heard and liked?

Venom, Charizma, Kitana, Andromeda, and - of course - my own name, McCain.

The best uncommon name I have heard was Justice, which let me as a DJ play all kinds of verbal games...I even tried to get her friend "Chloey" (which sure as hell didn't do that enchanting woman justice) to change her name to Liberty, so I could say we had Liberty and Justice for all--sorry, but I know it would have worked...But they were gone before I hade a chance to do that, you know how this business is.
NYCjacqueline, Colletecall, and McCain strike again, I needed a good laugh after last night...and Sylve3--Vulva!? Damn, that is funny.

Hey, McCain, how did you come up with your name?

Oooh, boy...I *never* hear THAT question! LOL I'll give the Reader's Digest Condensed version of the story....
When I first started stripping almost seven years ago, I used the stage name"Heaven" - back then, it really was nowhere near as predominant as it is now. Anyway, it may have lacked creativity, but it was a play on the fact that I always had my head in the clouds.
Well, I had this really good customer - an older Italian businessman who ran his own manufactured home business - who came in to see me ALL the time. One night, when it was really dead, he comes in, and we get to drinking and joking around, and he says to me,
"You know, the name Heaven really doesn't suit you. You're almost half Irish and Scottish, you've got that red hair and those blue eyes and that milky skin... You really should go with something more Celtic sounding!" I had to admit that maybe he had a point.... So we spent a few hours just kicking around Irish sounding names - Mackenzie, Bridgette, Charlotte, Naomi, etc... McCain was the only one we came up with that I actually liked.
I kept dancing by the name of Heaven until I left the Deep South. When I began dancing in the Northwest, I changed the name to McCain. It works MUCH better for me....

Hi all,
I use my own name now and am not sure why. Pamela, how bland. But i have fallen in love with the name RIO. I remember a song by Duran Duran (music is always on my mind, must be the job..right) Singing about RIO. I just love that name/place. And i have never heard of a dancer with the name Rio!
Some names fit a dancer to the tee, and i don't think Rio would match me very well. I think exotic! I am from sweden. Nope don't think it will match me. ???
Pamela
Lol... Actually, there was a dancer, who used to post on a few other dancer forums when I first started coming here, who used the name, Rio. I don't know whether it was her stage name or not. I haven't seen her around the past few months, though.
I thought it was a very pretty name, too. Personally, I love pretty much all exotic sounding names. However, I'd never manage to pull one off, either - I'm just about as pale as you can get (Irish/Scottish/English background). I always did wish I looked more exotic, though. :-/ Oh, well. We're never happy, are we?
PS--> Sorry to all of you that had to deal with that messed up post of mine before. Looks a lot better now, though. I don't know what is wrong with my laptop now, but it looks like it's time to send it off again. Grrr!!!I always have the worst luck with computers.

Okay, get this.
I know a dancer who was grad student. Her REAL name was Indigo. her stage name was Sarah. How's that for a wacky one? She could have danced under her given name and no one would believe it was her real name.

There was a gal by the name of Keena, whosimply reversed itfor her stage name "Aneek".
I've also known one by the name of Toni who danced using a MUCH plainer name.
My real name is probably equally distinguished to McCain, but it certainly does not sound like a stage name, so I don't use it.
McCain
You all left out the "boy" name category......Toni, Ryan, Sotty, Danni, and of course, my fav, Shawn![]()

There's a new girl at my club dancing by the name of "Cream".
We have a dancer *and* waitress named Billy...oh, and a Toni; Chris...You all left out the "boy" name category......Toni, Ryan, Sotty, Danni, and of course, my fav, Shawn![]()

I have always wanted to use my real name when I dance. My birth name is Jasmine. But there are several other dancers in my town who go by that. I ended up going for Phoenix. I chose it because I think the myth of the Phoenix resembles my life. How did you guys choose your names?
When i decided to stop bartending and start dancing, I spent hours playing yes or no with the bouncers because i decided to let them choose my name. THe rules were no types of alcohol, no adjectives, no types of weather or weather terms, and something unique, but not too out there. They came up with names for days to which i either said yes or no, and finally i decided on divyne. The last name kennedy came later. Sorta porn starry sounding (jus a little) because it has its own last name, but I decided that my name could not be a name that had connations of a particular group attached to it.
Basically, I just wanted a name where when you heard it you didn't know what type of girl to expect to see walking onstage and divine, devine or however u choose to spell it is not very common. A dj suggested that i spell it divyne. And, some cities I dance in I switch it around to Kennedy Divyne so it works out really well for me. Kennedy is kinda common though. Jus whichever works better.

the very first time i went to dance with my best friend, ( the one that got me into dancing) and we were driving down the 401 to london trying to think of a name for me...i wanted something cliche like tiffany or raven or something along those lines...but being a 6foot blond, loud and aggressive they did'nt seem to suit me...so she suggested "what about holly?"
so i said "sure why not"
the funny thing was, when the dj was paging me for my music i did'nt clue in i was 'holly'...it took me awhile but everyone says now my name suits me and i look more like a holly & even after i tell them my real name they still say my stage name is better
happy dancing sisters
