    Default only 18

    Hi all,

Ok this is probably a dumb question but I was looking at some club websites in my area picking out the ones I wanted to check out and saw that in all of them the entry age is 21. I'm only 18, so does that mean I can't visit the club even if its job related? Because I don't feel comfortable auditioning at a place i've never been to.
    Thanks,
    Lydia

Usually yes, due to legalities; but I'm sure there are ways around it.

First, the entry age may be 21, but the required age for dancers could be younger.

If you went in on the premise of an audition, even though you may not be auditioning at this time, you can request to look around first.

Tell them you're unfamiliar with the club, and would like to observe some.

Actually, your last comment is exactly what you should say.

I've had the same problem. I'm only 20 right now, so it's difficult to check out different clubs since we can't just show up inconspicuously as a customer first.

However, I think you'll find that if you contact the club you were thinking of dancing at and tell them your situation, they'll be happy to let you come down meet with the manager and have someone show your around first. Starting out can be nerve-racking enough without the added anxiety of not knowing exactly what you're getting yourself into. What area are you from? Maybe someone here will be able to steer towards some of the better clubs in your area.

Let us know how everything goes!

If they serve alcohol, you *probably* need to be 21 to walk in, audition or work. There are some locale-specific exemptions that allow under-21 to dance when alcohol control regs have only sales/service/consumption prohibited. The club should be able to tell you if that's the case. Call first, but be prepared for not being allowed entry unless you're auditioning or dancing.

I htink it really depends on your area. In Idaho, you must be 21 to enter or strip in a joint that serves alcohol.

But, when I started out dancing at 18, I worked in numerous clubs in Alabama, Georgia, and panhandle Florida. Every single one of them required a person to be 21 to enter, as they all served alcohol, but you only had to be 18 to strip in the specific localities.

Your best bet is to call ahead to the clubs you have in mind, ask to speak to a manager, and ask the manager whether you would be to work there/tour the place as a prospective workplace. A tip: If they say you are old enough to work there, be sure to ask whether you are required to have an entertainer's license. If you are required to have one, you should get one immediately after being hired, to cover your own rear end legally.

    Hey Lydia,
Where I am from in Florida, you can enter a topless bar if you are thinking of working there even if you are underage, especially if you are eminantly qualified by virtue of your beauty, etc. Although they might get mad if you hang around all night or try to sneak a drink or whatever. I would strongly advise that you do as many of the clubs are terrible to work in even if they look really nice on the outside. The managers of these places tend to be real scumbags and a classy exterior will be no guarantee that you will be treated with the respect you deserve.
Ask the girls if the manager is cool, but be careful how you do it as they may run to him and tell, especially if you are hot and they don't want you to work there. If you need to dance to a certain kind of music make sure they will play it-many clubs won't play rap or techno, etc.
If you are a newbie you may want to try to talk to the DJ as he can really help you, or make it really hard. I am a DJ and unlike most of them I especially love to help the new girls-one place I worked took advantage of this and we kicked ass in this area because we had almost all new girls and the guys really like this. But the manager was a real asshole and had it out for me because I was very popular with the dancers and they hated him because he would come right out and ask for a blowjob, etc.
Bear in mind if you do try to talk to him that he will be talking on the mike and looking for the next song-it is a much harder job than anyone thinks. Of course that is no excuse for the attitude most DJs have, but thats another story.
Another thing to look out for is how wild things get in VIP. Some clubs are very strict about this, in others, anything goes including full-on intercourse. I have even heard of a place in Jacksonville where the girls are REQUIRED to get crazy in there, but that is pretty unusual. It doesn't really matter to me what a woman chooses to do with her body but it can make it very difficult for you if you (as of course is your right) don't wish to be hassled by assholes who are used to getting away with stuff with other girls. I have known women who were able to circumvent this problem but it can be hard for a newbie to deal with.
Well, you've probably heard more than you want, LOL, but you got me going. I always try to look out for the new ones, I guess I am an idealist. Good luck, sweetheart, and have fun...

I have to disagree with Belinda about having to be 21 to strip. McCain is right, it will definitely depend on your area.

However, I know in almost all of the MA/RI/NH area, you only have to be 18 to work in an alcohol-serving club, but 21 to enter as a patron. From what I've heard from many of the other dancers hanging around here, I had thought that most areas were like this, but I could be wrong. You'll probably be best off if you call or email a few of the clubs in your area to find out what the rules/regs are.

Then you actually agree with what I wrote. Locale-specific alcohol regulations that are worded to only prohibit persons under 21 from selling, serving or consuming alcohol imply nothing prohibitive about dancing. Waitressing, bartending, drinking=not OK. Dancing=OK.

Actually, I just meant that I disagreed with your first line in which you stated:

If they serve alcohol, you *probably* need to be 21 to walk in, audition or work.
That's all. I do agree that it's going to vary by area. I simply meant that I disagreed that the majority would not allow someone under 21 to audition/dance. I thought the majority would allow it.

Also, in the state of MA, you only have to be 18 to serve alcohol. So, when I mentioned working at 18 within the club, I meant that also to include waitressing, bartending, or any other position. The only thing one who is between the ages of 18 and 21 cannot do is enter as a patron. So, that will vary as well depending on region.

I'm not trying to be disagreeable or anything, so I hope it didn't come off that way to you.

    Default It amuses me...

How up here it is 19 to be legal to drink, and in-turn be an adult, as it were. Yet 18 to dance in most cases. A difference of one year.

In the US, 21 to drink legally, yet 18 to dance in most cases.

Is it morals (or lack there of) that makes us lose 2 years; or is it a realization that a generation on-mass generates it's own guidelines, and therefore challenges beyond reasonable doubt, a system that determines who is responsible or not for their own actions through a democratic vote.

    Something I will never understand.
Not to imply one is superior to the other....

By the way, Amber; Thanks for the plug on the EDP.

Here in New York State there is a most curious order to things. First, if the club serves alcohol, the dancers cannot dance nude, and patrons must be 21 to enter, although the dancers need only be 18. However, if the club does not serve alcohol, patrons need only be 18 to enter and the dancers can get down to the bare metal. Now in Pennsylvania, things become ever more weird. If the club SERVES alcohol, the dancers cannot dance naked, you must be 21 to enter but you can be 18 to dance. Now in the clubs that don't serve booze, you need only be 18 to enter, but..you can BYOB..you're supposed to be 21 to bring booze in, but almost no one checks, especially if there's a big group coming in together, you can be 18 to dance and can dance nude. Strange.

Louisville, Kentucky, 18 to dance topless, 21 to dance nude. Nude license costs $160/year and you can't have any felony convictions. Still in Louisville, if alcohol is served, no nude dancing and customers must be 21 to enter. Bartenders and wait staff must be 21. Nude clubs you must be 18 or older to enter. Each city and county has their own regulations in Kentucky, so check. Louisville and Jefferson County have licensing. Some may not.

Indiana has no state licensing, but state liquor laws. No nude dancing in Indiana, although rumor has it that at least a couple of clubs offer nude. 18 to work in or dance in a bar. However, you cannot touch the alchol. (Yeah right.) Some of the smaller cities have dancer licensing and background checks. Indy doesn't.

Hmmm... interesting. Well I live in Charlotte NC (BTW anyone from NC?) and every club here serves alcohol, hence the 21 rule. I think that you only have to be 18 to dance though.... On the websites of some clubs you can send in a picture of yourself (either nude or with clothing) and they'll contact you for an audition. I think I may do that and include in the e-mail i'd like to tour the club before the actual tryout. I found it strange that almost ever strip club in Charlotte is owned by the same company, except the two really upscale ones, yet they all have different dance prices (5-25 dollars)....?

    Idaho is weird.....

It breaks down like this. Full nude clubs are illegal, as are completely topless clubs.

For a club that serves alcohol, girls must wear at least a thong bikini and must be 21 to work. Patrons must also be 21 to enter.

For a club that does not serve alcohol, girls may go topless IF they wear pasties, and must be 18 or 19 (not sure which) to work. But even thoguh more nudity is involved, patrons only need be 18 to enter.

Now there seems to be some theory that mixing alcohol with nudity of the female form will bring on social ills, yet they neglect to pay attention to the fact that every non-alcohol strip joint in town has a BAR next door from which patrons buy drinks.

    Crazy.

And all that stemmed from a lot of Mormons complaining about it being legal for women to sunbathe topless in public, so long as they did not act in a lewd and lasciviouc manner.

So that's where that came from, I've alway wondered!
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.

So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic. And the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect. And to know in our hearts... that we are not alone.
