Default Length of each song at your club

I dance in Texas and the DJs at my club play songs for 3.5 to 5.5 minutes long. There is even one DJ that plays songs for up to 7 minutes. (God forbid if the girl on stage chooses to dance to NIN "Closer" because it could be 10 minutes, no kidding!). We do a 2 song set on stage. Usually the first song is shorter than the second but it still seems like forever when I'm doing a lap dance.

At my club, and at many in this area, instead of men sliding/ tossing tips on the stage, the guys walk right up to the stage and the girl comes over and does a little 20-30 second mini-dance for him right in the middle of her stage set (while still on the stage). After his mini-dance, the guy gives the girl $1 in her thong or garter, then she either keeps dancing on stage for the crowd or stops for the next dollar tipper.

Personally, I think this method is lame and prefer money put on the stage for dancers to collect AT THE END of her stage set but this is how it is done here.
I skip stage every time mainly because I loathe the whole mini-dance phenomenon and there is not much stage appreciate at this club in general. (For the record, I do like stage but just feel the mini-dance thing takes away from my performance which is actually pretty descent) Plus, I make much more money on the floor and the $20 skip-stage fee to the DJ is worth going on main stage for $10 in tips (maybe) plus 3 side stages, a total of 8 songs!
Usually the guys don't start tipping til 2 minutes into the second song when girls get topless and DJs start prodding, so this is part of the reason why songs are seemingly so long when I am lap dancing during these girls' stage sets. Ugh!

So how long do songs at your club last? Does the DJ cut them even if girls are making money? Would it be unfair if they did cut them even if there were two more guys each lined up for their 30 second mini-dance? I've heard each song is 1.5 to 2 minutes in LA, California. Could this be true? Am I dancing for 5 minutes plus for $20 when I could be getting double elsewhere? Or am I just not putting myself in the girl on stage's shoes enough(the one being tipped during overtime...). Please know I am happy the girl on stage is being tipped at all but is it just at the cost of the girls that are giving lap dances during her set? Any comments are welcome. Thank you!

    Hi Sonia,

I prefer the mini-dance thing... I get bored doing a whole set on stage with no one to dance for. At most places I've danced at songs are kept around 3-4 minutes. Tho I have seen girls dance to hotel california (like 12 minutes, and a horrible song for dancing!) and other really long songs. Most girls don't play the really long songs out of respect for the other girls.

Yeah....I'm with you. At most clubs (all clubs? at least the ones I've worked at or visited) the lap/table dances are ALSO key'd to the song length. NO ONE wants to do a 10 minute lap dance!!! The DJ's I've seen control that a couple of ways. First, in the clubs where the girls get some say-so on the songs, the DJ's will veto anything w-a-a-y too long. Second, I've seen some DJ's cut a long song after a couple of minutes.

As for the money thing, I've seen it both ways, and I much prefer the little mini-dance routine. Then again, I like making eye-contact with the customer. Those guys will usually be great targets for lap dances later.

:o Wow I could'nt imagine dancing 5-7 minute songs. The club that I work at here in NY, we have about 3-4 DJs working on any given week. Most of them know not to play a song more then 4 minutes. Whenever the DJ does slip up we kindly remind him that the more dances we can do in our shift the more tip he will receive. I think the dancers really have a lot of control over that matter.

We have two stages one being the main stage and the other the show stage. The main stage is in the middle of a large bar, 2 poles and room in between to get down and go around to each guy after your first song. You go to each guy and do maybe a 8-10 second dance and it is understood that he must tip a dollar. If he doesn't tip at least $1 someone, most of the time a dancer, will let him know that there are other seats away from the stage if you are not tipping the girls.

The show stage is located in the back of the club and guys sit in chairs in front of the stage and you really don't count on making any money there. I guess thats why its called the show stage. The show stage is where you make the eye contact with the customers and then after your set is over you go to that guy, chat a little then ask for a dance.

As far as tipping the DJ to maybe skip your set or keep you off stage during your set is a little questionable. I think the stage is where you advertise yourself and even if you don't make $1 there is a great chance someone might see you and want a dance.

But, I would definitely recommend tipping the DJ to keep you off stage if you are sitting with a customer that has limited time there and you know you will get at least X amount of dollars or if you leave him he will immediately get lonely and call someone else over.

    Much Succes

I work almost exclusively at a topless club. Sets are two songs, not arbitrarily cut unless you yourself specify the point, keep it reasonable and you're good to go because any hearing fool can find at least 2-3 non-jarring breaks in the avg. radio cut. Personally, I could give a shit what's played when I'm not on stage. It's just background noise to me.

If you don't want to interrupt your performance, why do it? Who's in control here?

But I do see your point about paying more not to use something you're already paying to use. There are already too many operational barriers in place to allow you to make a break-even return on your 7-10 min. performance cost, so paying even more can't really hurt you at this point. Eventually, through an unnatural process of devolution, no one will be confronted with this dilemma anymore. When stages are finally gone, that'll fix the problem.

It's true that in most nude LA clubs songs are arbitrarily cut to at or under 2:30, but rarely under 2 min. I don't carry a stopwatch with me (and only work very sparsely at 1 of more than 80-something nude clubs in a 3-county area), but I'll stick by my guesstimation. And you have 1-song sets, so that should clue you as to just how serious they are about herding you off-stage as fast as possible. Customers don't stage tip you at nude clubs here because there's nothing to tip for and it's often more trouble for them than not. There's a reason most people turn to the right when they enter a store, too. And it's far from accidental or attributable to the fact that the majority population is right-handed.

Best course of action: keep following the tail ahead of you. Breaking from the herd spells trouble.

The DJs cut all the songs at two minutes at my club. At the other club I worked at, all the songs were cut at three and a half. It's only fair to the other dancers! I have to say that five and a half minutes sounds excessive.

All of the songs at my club are 3:30. Unless the DJ is watching something on TV and can't get his ass over there to change it.

:-/ Where do you work in Texas? I recently worked a year in Houston and yes the clubs "back up" the songs if a customer is standing by the stage dollar in hand. Those clubs are time and company clubs where you have to sit and socialize with a guy for a long time before he will consider buying any dances. I hate the clubs there as they have no momentum.

Momentum clubs generate a lot of interest in the stage and lots of stage tips and the girls go table to table selling table dances done on the floor. The money flows in those clubs. Yes those clubs are boring and have no party atmosphere. The stage is not a draw. If you can't find several guys to spend $100-$200 on you you make very little.

In the LA area guys don't like the topless full bar clubs as the table dances offer little contact because if vice comes in and sees too much contact their liquor license is suspended. Virtually every full bar club in the LA metro area has had a liquor license suspension at one time or another. There are a lot of nude juice bar clubs there as a result and yes they play 2-2.5 minute songs so that they can squeeze more lap dances in an hour as the club gets money from each dance. the problem with those clubs is that when they are good they are good and bad is paying more to work than you make. guys go there to buy dances usually unless the young crowd is there, butsometimes you have more girls than customers and it is a losing battle. i would not recommend them

In houston clubs (I worked at Ritz and St. James) you don't go on stage much, only once or twice a night unless you are working a saturday or Sunday day shift . I just take my few dollars and concentrate on the floor as you said.

Length of songs in our club do not matter, so long as our set equals at least 12-15 minutes (or 20 minutes if only three girls are on the floor). This is the rule in our club as set by Barry, the owner.

Recently went into Night Moves (some of you may remember it being up for auction on EBay earlier this year), which has been bought out by Spearmint Rhino. (They now have two clubs in Boise, ID). The girl in there ran 3 songs, and the DJs cut every song at 2 minutes, so that the girls were on stage only a total of 6 minutes. And they were running so few girls that when they were not on stage, they did not have time to mingle, because they had to rush to freshen up and change between sets. It was ridiculous.

At my club there are three DJ's. One DJ plays three songs at 3 to 3 1/2 min. a piece, while myself and the other DJ will play two at 4 to 4 1/2 min a piece. You're still on-stage the same amount of time, just one less song.

Our dances are timed in the couch room, so the length of song I play is irrelevant in that regard. Generally speaking though, i keep it between 2:30 to 4:00 minutes. How soon I cut the songs onstage also has lots to do with the amount of girls on shift. As was mentioned, I dont want to cut songs really short if I'm just gonna have to throw that same girl right back up 20 minutes later. If I have a lot of girls, and it's taking everyone quite awhile to get onstage, I might speed things up a bit... it all depends on how busy the floor looks, too. There are tons of variables. Also, there are short radio edits of just about any popular song if you look hard enough. I have a 4 minute-ish edit of NIN's "Closer". (I would really enjoy never hearing that song ever again though.)

At my club we play our music off a jukebox, so we dance to the whole song, no matter how long it is. Most of the songs on there are 3-5 minutes, but there are a couple that are longer. We make most of our money off the stage, so on a busy night where the stage is full, many girls will play the longest songs they can think of so they can be up on stage longer to get more tips. Same for slow nights- we all will play the shortest songs so that we don't have to be on stage as long when no one is tipping.
Take the road less traveled- just make sure you have a map.

All the songs at my club are cut around 2 minutes with 3 for 1 songs being 1 and a half minutes each. We do two songs on stage each time we go on stage.

at my club, song length is limited to 4 minutes. depending on the number of girls present, we do two or three song sets (three song sets if there are fewer than 5 girls). we are tipped continuously throughout the songs by customers, who sit around the stage/table. the only thing that sucks is that in order to make the best tips, you have lean over and give customers a lot of contact while you're on the stage. i think that's true for most of the clubs in colorado...?

Our songs are roughly 2:30min long. But that's when we have the DJ who actually does his job working. The younger DJ's who are out mixing/mingling can sometimes let the entire song play! It's very aggrevating!
