Vanessa, see my reply in the main discussion forum to your question about dohan. I believe, but I'm not sure, that Leigh Landon (a feature dancer who is a member here) danced in Tokyo. Leigh, are you there?

The "unofficial concensus" is that Tokyo clubs now offer an earnings potential which is in the $3,000 per week range, as opposed to much higher levels a couple of years ago. As a result, many US clubs offer equal earnings potential without the risk of foreign travel and without the necessity of a 6,8,12 week contractual commitment on the part of the dancer. Tokyo clubs and customers are also rather picky about the appearance and demeanor of the girls they hire, and seem to have particular tastes (one of which is Barbie Blondes with big boobs). Since much of the Tokyo earnings potential depends on being "chosen" by customers instead of being "paid" by the club, girls who work in Tokyo but who don't click with customers can see some disappointing earnings. This can be even more disappointing if a girl decides to leave before her contract is completed, and as a consequence winds up having to pay for her trip home out of her own pocket.

When agencies are "beating the trees" as hard as they have been lately for dancers willing to work in Tokyo, it certainly makes me wonder what the underlying reason is.
