You're probably referring to the "proposed" no contact ordinance in the city of L.A. While this won't even become law unless signed by the Mayor of L.A. , even if it does it will only affect clubs within the L.A. city limits.I am moving to SF and I heard that they banned lap dances in Ca. Is this true?
As far as S.F. goes, the S.F. district attorney is on record of taking a position that "unless prostitution is happening on the sidewalks, the city is not going to waste resources prosecuting it" or words to that effect. Lap dances are alive and well in S.F. ! Unfortunately, so are HJ's BJ's and FS in the majority of San Francisco clubs (to the point that house dancers post their price schedules on the web!)
.
Because of the DA's position on enforcing state lewd conduct and prostitution laws in "private settings", S.F. dancers have extremely low odds of being busted as a result. However, S.F. dancers also have extremely low odds of earning big money unless they also will offer HJ's BJ's etc. just like many other dancers in their club already do.
Thank you so much! That is what I thought! This is why I have been excieted to go to San Francisco (that, and SF is a beautiful city, itself). If that ugly rumor was true I would have had to reconcider my move. Glad to hear this!

However, they are other cities within 45 minutes of SF that have very different laws and cleaner clubs with good earning potential

McKenna, I lived in SF last year. It got so disgusting, I was flying to Vegas on the weekends to work at OG instead of working in SF. I've written many posts on my experiences in SF, if you want to scroll through old threads.
I would definately re-think a move to the Bay area, if you are not set on your decision. First of all, the cost of living is ten times that of Las Vegas. Your average two bedroom apt is about $2200/month in a decent neighborhood, closer to $3K if you want to live near the action in Marina, Pacific Hts, or North Beach. Groceries are more expensive (bread, milk, juice, fruit, cereal would be $30) Parking will run you $20 if you use your car to get anywhere in the city. If you live outside the city limits, you can find an apt for around $1800/month, but then you have your commuting costs.
Your earnings will be comparable to, but not much higher than your earnings in Vegas IF you do extras. However, as a clean dancer who does not perform hj or bj either inside or out of the club, you probably will not be able to earn as decent a living as you do now.
There are several bikini bars in Silicon Valley. There are also a lot of dancers in SF that drive up from Silicon Valley because $20 dances add up faster than $10 dances. The cost of living is the same down there, but the earnings potential of the low contact bikini bar is far less than the high contact topless bar.
Keep in mind that the Bay Area was a rockin place to make money in 99-2000. However, after the dot.com bubble burst, there was no more expense accounting the strip club trips. So, if you are relying on word of mouth that SF is an "easy grand a night" put that thought away. The entire Bay Area is still in a recession until the next big tech boom. My girlfriends at the Gold Club and Hustler are struggling to pull $200 on weeknights and $500 on weekends....and these are the SAME girls that pulled $4Gs a night way back when.
The Big 3 topless clubs are Hustler, Gold Club and Boys Toys(now called Penthouse). Gold Club is the cleanest, all extras are performed outside of the club. Hustler and Penthouse are part of the DeJaVu brothel chain. Plenty of extras in the champagne room.
PM me if you have any other ?s

McKenna,
What Brittany said about the costs of living in the SF Bay Area is pretty accurate if your trying to live an upper middle class or higher lifestyle. It does cost serious $$ Even the attorneys I work with can't afford to buy a house.
But, If your willing to Sacrifice top of the line luxury. You can still manage to live in S.F. The best bet for finding a reasonable place to live is to either check out the bulletin boards at Colleges in the area to find a decent room to rent or a roomate situation, or live up north in Napa (wine country- about one hour driving time) and commute to work from there. So it can be done. As for grocery's the produce is very cheap but very high quality. You just got to learn where to shop. If your actually living in SF having a car will be a problem i.e. parking, parking permits, etc. One thing I'll warn you about; Never ever leave any clothing or spare change in your car in plain view at anytime- If you do the your car window will be broken and your stuff gone especially the clothing- it's like a magnet for the homeless to steal it. SF is an example of the inmates running the asylum.
But the SF bay Area has high quality diverse, ammenitys that you really can't find anyplace else in the U.S. that is comprable in quality: Good climate, excellant restuarants, museums, colleges, hiking, beaches, the best Asian cuisine, and Mexican food in the U.S.A, fun people, wine country, night clubs, music scene, rave scene, and more. Just realize we are in a recession and money isn't flowing around like it used to be. So you'll more than likely pick up a regular job [service industry etc] and strip at the same time. If your not a Nasty Girl giving extras.
Our cost of living here is high, but not as bad as Hawaii, ask any dancer about the cost of living there, and what it takes to get a second job other than street walking in front of Deja Vu's at the international market place.
The SF Bay Area is 10 times easier to deal with than there. If your ready to give up certain things, but the best way to find out if you like to move here is take a two week vacation and checkout the clubs, locations, and area in general to see if you like it. Then you can decide to move here or not.
Mc Kenna,
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
