Default rip the system...help a rivethead dancer

ok, let me start by saying this:
everything about me is extreme. i'm a rivethead. i LOVE industrial music (rammstein is mainstream to me). i have 20 body piercings and quite a few tats (i dont wear all the piercings to work) i can tone down the look a bit, but my look is what gets me noticed (i wear black and green braids that go down to my butt (at work- i look like betty page), black lite reflective or light up clothing (i make my own clothes))

i started out as a fetish model, i dont look or act typical at all (see: ohgr's performance: he covered himself in mud and came out on stage wearing a metal pope's hat singing madonna's 'borderline') my photographer's liked that i'm unique.

but i'm having a hard time. i don't really quite fit into any catergory (but im proud of that). in most goth/industrial clubs, people just lumber around or are too shy/ stuck up to dance. they wont hire me as a gogo dancer there cause i'm too 'slutty' when i dance (funny, they have threesomes and use drugs galore, i get no dates or even kisses, plus they dont pay you)

i got into stripping cause i really feel i could express myself. i could dance all i wanted to the music i wanted and quite honestly, it was more appreciated than when i went to regular fetish clubs (boston is VERY closeminded)

i have a hard time because i like to be VERY creative with my stage performances. i'm having a hard time finding a club that will allow me to do what i do (i have videos of getting my piercings done, hot wax and fire shows)

check out www.divaluxe.com to get a better idea of what i look like (i'm not actually on that site)

but i'm thinking: why not mix the two? i know many guys who go to goth clubs and the chicks ignore them (they can be very stuck up here) and they go home alone (they like this idea) and i've met many customers who are into what i do. i want to dance nude and do live artistic performances but it's hard to do that in regular goth clubs and i'm extreme for strip clubs. i'm working on starting up a website. but how do i promote something like this? i was thinking using email lists stating where i'll be performing and complete with a picture of myself. (i'll ask the club if it's ok if friends come along)

think this is a way to start my gig?

Sounds like you need to be doing your own feature shows of some sort, rather than tooling around some strip club or goth club. Look around, you might be surprised at what you can accomplish if you put forth the effort, and it sounds like you have no problem with that!

hmmm, where are you? Have you ever tried to audition to be with a band or dj or something? I know the impotent sea snakes have girls with tattoos and piercings doing a lot of very unique things. I have a friend who is a fire dancer but she dances for dj's and in clubs and wears skimpy clothing so it's toned down more than what it sounds like you do. You sound like the kind of girl my boyfriend would love to see dance when he goes to see strippers....maybe you just haven't found the right club!

    From one rivethead to another:

I have had a lot of difficulty with this particular motif. I push the music an awful lot, but beyond that, I have to look as normal and pretty as possible to do well in high end clubs.

You can get away with black outfits and Juno Reactor, but the rest might hurt your earnings. If you find a way to feaaaature you might have better luck. Not so many spikes on stage!

Latex is mad swanky. I'd wear that a lot. But it's hot and quite expensive. So at waht price are you willing to be yourself completely? I had the same mindset as you, until I saw that my hardcoreness wasn't paying off. But do what you gotta do.

Yes, I have to concur with Juliette... I've mellowed a lot since I started dancing just to get those earnings up. You may have better luck in a larger market than I am in, though.

Are there any burlesque type floor show groups where you are? I remember that the Gun Street Girls got pretty wild and something like that would be a great feature oppurtunity. Hell, maybe hook up as a dancer with the Genitorturers... who knows.

Me, I started my own promotion company to create events I could freak out at. That's always an option.

    Good Luck!

I am a heavily tattooed dancer with 16 piercings ..I have never compromised myself for anyone and neither should you...I am an excellent dancer who keeps myself in top physical shape compared to most girls I encounter in the clubs today...and they give me shit
for having a full sleeve...I say fuck them...personally I make my money because I look the way I do,if I looked "normal" I would go home broke...I also have done fetish modeling and spin poi...keep doing what you doing...talk to like minded people and you will find the clubs across the country that will be willing to host you...or like the other girls have suggested feature...I have a friend Monique who is a fire dancer with crazy dreads, also makes her own costumes and would breath fire on stage in some clubs! She supports herself by performing at raves, dance clubs, and concerts you could do the same... Yes, sometimes I tone it down to make the money....I cant change whats on my skin...but I can wear a different outfit or makeup...I call it being SuperStripper...hehe...goodluck...you need suggestions on freak friendly clubs maybe I could help...

There is a certain inconsistency between wanting to be different than everyone else but wanting people to flock around to pay you money. It doesn't appeal to them - because you're different.

To thine own self be true. Do what you need to do for yourself. If people don't want to pay for that, find something else to do to pay the rent and do art as a hobby.

But just because people don't buy into your act doesn't mean that they're bad. It just means that they want to spend their money on something else that appeals to them, something targeted to their tastes.

    Good luck.

I like Veronika's idea about finding a specific outlet for your very cool looks and talent. In Hopuston i know Bozo Porno Circus always needs dancers and they are not too hard to get into...I did it before I was 18 even.

Rivethead is more of a new thing. The 50 year old millionaires don't know what Industrial or rivethead culture is, and these are the ones you seek to relate to. There are some but very few exceptions.

I say these things because my guess is that you are into stripping for the money.

    yes?no?

First, let me say that Goth is a complete fantasy I've always wanted.

Like if you ever saw the CSI chick that Grissom liked Mistress something... she was sooooooo hot.

But at first glance you portray how you look, and while you have an outgoing personality, you have to turn it up to make it work with a look that supports I and Introverted. No offense. I mean I know a goth and a punk goth girl and they are super nice, but they dress angry. And boy would I totally show them that I am a 2pumpChump.

My only advice is to step up the outgoing a notch. Turn down the extreme to get into the door. I mean tats or what not, everyone is looking for you to turn them on.

I always have been hit hard when I make that request. Its like I asked someone to kill their mother. But really all I am saying is that show people what they want to see, then once they love you, show them who you are. It will probably be even hotter. Like dating a cool dude only to find out he's a god damned machine in the sheets. I hope this helps.

I know a girl that was this straight A hot cheerleader chick. And she's a good friend. One day she told me she loves blowing her boyfriend <we've never dated> but she never seemed to be like that, knowing that just made her hotter because it was after the fact. Months later she's wearing a Tee Shirt that reads 'What can my Mouth do for You?'

    Kudos!

Your look is very common in Portland and Seattle. You could probably get hired just about anywhere in Oregon with your look with a few exceptions. I once saw a dancer with 16 genital peircings alone! She danced at Jiggles in Tualitin Oregon. And the first Corset style peircings I ever saw was at a club here in Eugene Oregon. the look is widely accepted here in the pacific Northwest, and you will even see cashiers working at national chain type places (like Home Depot or Target) that are covered with tats and peircings and have unusual hair coloing.

Heck-Suicide Girls originated inPortland Oregon quite some time ago! You should at least think about making a road trip to see how you do here $$ wise dancing!

I second Paris' idea. I am also from Portland and work in a club where you would be very accepted. Your look could almost be considered the norm for Portland. If you want to know anything else, including club names that would be worth checking out, feel free to PM me.
