Did you have to sing a year or two contract? if so when that runs out never sing up with them again. Ballys is know for is contract singing..and they are very hard to get out of. 24 hour fitness does not make you sing any contracts and is only about 23.00 a month..unless you want a sport club, then its a bit more.

maybe a bit o/t but I signed up with Gold's earlier this year. Actually, I didn't even want to sign up but was talked into it by a girlfriend. Thank goodness they had a 30 money back guarantee because by the 29th day I STILL had not set foot in that gym. They weren't too happy about giving me my money back but hey...it was in black and white.

Good luck at the gym. I just don't have the motivation to go.

yeah, I think I paid 99 to join don't remember what the monthly fee was but for a year contract what a waste of $ if I'm never gonna go. Sheesh if I can't make it in within a month it's not likely I'll ever even go at all! This is even walking distance from my house.

i go to Crunch. there's alot of gay guys, which i like because the guys arent trying to pick me up. when i lived in south florida for a couple years i went to bally's. it was SUCH a meat market!! haha. but lots of great looking guys. the bad thing was that they roped me into this retarded 3 year contract that i had to pay extra to cancel when i moved to Nyc. crunch is okay but i wanna switch to equinox next year, they have a spa, a health food cafe, and better equipment than crunch.

Man Bally's is a very expensive club!! The problem with Bally's is that you have to sign up for those long ass contracts that last like 2 or sometimes 3 yrs. If you aren't sure if your really gonna stick to your Bally's membership, I wouldnt' even suggest joining. My mom fell through the trap of messing with bally's. Do they not have Fitworks in your area? Those of you who are interested in joining a good gym should join Fitworks.

BlackBeauty, is your trainer certified? I'm not trying to worry you, but before you ever hire a personal trainer, you need to make sure he is properly trained. Does he have a degree in exercise science, or is he just trained from Bally's or the YMCA. Just want you to research girlfriend...

That's ridiculous! You are your own person! If you want to get a PT, get a PT! He is probably just a little insecure with the idea of you getting a little one on one time with a buff guy. Get a woman PT. That might make him feel better. Personally I like women PT's better. I feel more comfortable and they know more about women's bodies.

You know what Kobi, I was thinking the same thing! I just didnt' want to step on any toes you know. Anyway, NYLA, you should take our advice and do what makes YOU happy. I mean I know he's your man and all, but sometimes you have to do things for yourself. Why is he so against you getting a personal trainer? Is he the insecure type..sure seems like it. Anyway, do what Kobi suggested, and get a woman trainer.

female trainers are great. when i lived in florida i had such an awesome female trainer. her name is Sherry Lee, she works @ boca and delray beach. she looks almost identical to pamela anderson!! she is absolutely gorgeous and her body is amazing....i wish i had a pic. she is a great trainer- motivating and she really knows her shit; she was in a bunch of fitness competitions, she's been in playboy and shes a fitness model.

Kobi- how is Golds? Do they have classes and such like 24 hour fitness does? My membership at 24 is almost up and I've been thinking about not renewing... but there are so many here and they are so plush...
BlackBeauty- I don't think 24 has gyms in IL, but I know for sure Gold's does and they do have a gym in Orland Park/Tinley area that is open 24 hours. Enjoy all that Bally's has to offer! There are many locations in Chicago area- are you able to visit any Ballys?

Ballys is 2 blocks from my house. The trainer that I have is from Ballys. I have a 3 year contract. I'm happy I got it b/c I'm not motivated enough to do it on my own plus they have a pool and I love swimming.

I'm working out at the University Club these days. I like it. Initiation fee has gone from a thousand dollars to a hundred....just for chrismas. This is if you don't want the Tennis membership....then it is 200. It is super nice. For all the chickies in Houston, this place is beautiful....on the top floor of the Galleria.

Blackbeauty...make sure that the instructor for the Yoga and Pilates classes are genuinely certified through reputable Yoga/Pilates studios!!!!!!!!! I have been doing Pilates for 3 1/2 years and I was at a gym that pushed its Pilates classes, so I took one...and WHOA! That instructor didn't know jack about Pilates! Probably just watched a tape and tried to go from there. Not good...if the Yoga/Pilates instructor doesn't "understand" what and why the movements/breathing are/should be done a certain way...then they will end up giving instructions that will cause people to hurt themselves.

Just go up to the desk and ask to speak with the Aerobics/class director and tell them that you want to see Proof that these individuals are CERTIFIED somewhere reputable before you take the class...no use in hurting yourself.

Uh huh..that was the point I was trying to make too. So many "instructors" who work at these gyms just get a job because they look in shape. You should take Venus' advice on checking out their certifications. As with you new PT as well! What's the point in training with someone who doesn't really know whats' going on?

I reccommend a gym with no contract. pay by the month. I am moving and my gym is making a big deal out of it. They need a copy of my florida license to cancel the contract, what a joke. I brought in a copy of my lease for my house in florida and they wouldn't take it. There are 2 gyms by me that are pay by the month- or 99 dollars every 3 months. I wish I had went to one of those ones. Don't do a long contract, it's such a pain in the ass.
