    Ok, if anyone's read my post in the "does your BF tell U..." thread, you know my story. I'm 5'7" and *gulp* 160lbs. I do amateur nights at the local strip club and I have won in the past. The other strippers, clients, and people that work there love me, but the manager said that I'd need to lose 20lbs before she can hire me. All my extra weight is in my stomach and thighs (I look like I've just had a baby even tho I haven't). I've been heavy like this my entire life. Even when I was down to 134lbs, I still had the fat around the middle (just less of it). As gross as it is, I have rolls. No flat flab for me unfortunately, so I have twice as much work ahead of me. When doing the amateur night, I wear a girdle or a dress and I just take my bra off and keep my stomach covered. How can I get rid of all this extra fat (as quickly as possible)? I eat reasonably well and I do about 30 min of Tae Bo a day. I'm a senior in college and I need $3000 for spring semester's tuition so I need to get makin' the green! What can I do?

    Go to your local boxing gym, where they train pros and also have group classes. Take group classes and private coaching...at least 5 days a week. It will kill you and its not cheap but IT WORKS...its aerobic and strength training all at once. Some of the boxing gyms have weight machines too.

    If you want to lose that weight fast and not risk health, its gonna really cost you.

    Also, I know that the Atkins Diet, if done strictly and correctly really works temporarily, but its really STRICT, no coffee or alcohol. For me, forget it!

    Or talk to Ryan on this forum about his raw foods diet. Since you'll be eating like a rabbit, you will lose lots of weight. If you are in school right now, I imagine you have finals coming, now would not be a good time to deprive your body and work it so hard.

    Finally, you could always work at another club where they are less discriminating, and also wear a waist cincher at all times, those look sexy...

    I know a few good tips that may be of use:

    1. A good tip is to attempt to cut your sugar intake. It is known that sugar is a guilty culprit of expanding the waistline in particular. You can start doing this gradually by reducing your intake by a teaspoon every day. Or you could switch to a sugar alternative but don't go crazy on it to replace standard sugar tastes.

    2. Try and stay active during the day, not just for your tai bo class. To do this, maybe walk around more or ride a bike to work, just little improvements. I know people who would go to the gym for 45 minutes but spend the rest of the day on their bums. That's not the way to go! If you try and maintain activity throughout the day (even low impact) it will do wonders for your metabolism!!

    3. Try and break down your meals so that you are eating something like 4-6 small meals during the day. It'll break your appetite so you're not hungry or depriving yourself of fuel. It is often wiser to have your larger meals earlier in the day so that you burn them off and also, don't eat too late into the night.

    4. Drink lots of water!!! It aids weight loss so I'm told and it can help curb your appetite if you drink a large glass before mealtime. I drink about 1.5 litres a day. You should aim for around that.

    5. It might also help if you have a buddy? A girlfriend of mine I used to go to school with had a weightloss buddy and she lost a ton! It's a good thing to have some support from anyone but it especially helps if you're with someone going through the same boat as you who has a passion to lose weight, not someone who'll skimp on their goal or will bring you down. Also, set goals for yourself, like a new outfit or something. It'll keep you insight of what you want to achieve.

    And don't forget to have a healthy attitude. Weight loss takes time, it will not happen overnight so be realistic about how much you'll lose in a given time period. Just remember ANYONE can do it!

    Eat healthy! Lots of veggies, white chicken, no skin, no starchy carbs. Do some research on how to eat healthy. Find out how fitness competitors eat. The more you know the easier it will be. Knowledge is very important.

    Get to the gym! Do cardio twice a day. You heard me! Once in the morning and once at night. Do one half hour session and one hour session. Do cardio 5 times a week. Lift weights 3 times a week. Do a whole body workout each day. Do a couple exercises for legs, biceps, triceps, back, and pecs (if you don't have implants, skip it if you do). Every weightlifting day mix up your exercises. If you don't know how to lift weights get a personal trainer. If you can't afford one sometimes gyms offer three free sessions. If they don't, ask any friends that are knowledgeable in weights. Also, read Oxygen and Muscle & Fitness Hers.

    Drink lots of water and nothing but water. No alcohol, pop, or juices. The only thing that is allowed besides water is a meal replacement shake, to replace a meal. Have one of those for one of your six small meals. Never let yourself go hungry. Snack on veggies or nuts.

    Keep a exercise and food journal.

    This will be hard! If you want to lose 20 lbs. of fat as fast as you can and keep it off, this is the way to go.

    People have fasted for religious reasons for centuries. But if you fast on only water, i would say see a doctor first, because if you have low iron or an underlying condition you are not aware of you can put your self in a coma. Ryan no food of any kind for a week ? Really ? Isn't that a period of time that takes training to be able to do ? I don't know, so i am just asking.

    Pam, I am not going to go into detail, there are many fasting books out there, and a ton of information on-line. If I post anything it will be attacked by montythegeek and it ties up the board. Anyways I sooo tired of prooving him wrong, YAWN

    I wanted to put the lead out there, and if it is something totallyamateur wants to pursue she can research it on the internet. I would like her to decide for herself after reviewing the informaion out there.

    You reccommend seeing a doctor first. I doubt a medical doctor would agree with fasting as medical doctors are not trained in the holistic approach. They were not trained about fasting in medical school, and know nothing about it.

    Check amazon.com for books on fasting of Barnes and Noble. The information is out there, I have many books on the subject. Or try Google.

    Kobi is right, it is reccommended to let the body relax on a fast. I always take it easy and let my body do it's thing.

    fasting has never really worked for me because of the fact that your body will sense it is starving and your metabolism will plumit, not a good thing and when you do eat your body will suck all the fat out of the food and store it, it thinks you are starving to death. Kobi has some really good advice.

    You sound just like me last may. I had to make fall semester tuition and I was 20lbs over weight.

    I lost 15lbs in 2 months. Whenever people lose weight that fast it is never healthy.

    I understand your situation totally.

    High protein diet in short term is good.(it's not healthy but it's fast).

    Why not find club that hire you and work while you are loosing weight? It is really motivating to see slim dancers.

    these docs. treat the body as a whole. And know about fasting, the ups and downs. I can't fast, (i have heart problems, my electrolytes go out of wack after the 2nd day.) I know of a Jewish women who fasts every year, and you should train the body to get used to not having food. This is what i was told.

    First, you should believe in yourself and not in your BF. It's ok to listen to his opinion, but in the end you have to think of yourself. And his opinion of your
    Looks, Body Etc has been negated by the fact that you've won amateur night and Everyone has reacted
    positively to you at the SC

    Fasting for seven days with no food does not seem like a good idea. Have you any experience in Fasting? Also, many other variables about your life and body chemistry
    that you may not be aware of could make fasting a bad choice.

    First off I agree with Kobi, it'll work but you have to commit yourself.

    As for fasting, you wouldn't be able to lose 20 lbs in a week if you fast. Most of the weight that comes off in the intial days is water weight. After that your body does start eating the fat cells, it doesn't store them. If you fast too long, ketosis is the result, where your body will start using muscle instead of fat. When fasting it is recommended to build up to the point of fasting for a week but it's actually very easy, they say not to eat big meals the day before though. Tons of people fast and work out too but it's also not healthy but do-able. Also when you start eating again after a fast, you should stick to healthy foods like fruits and veggies and work up to stuff high in proteins and carbs.

    I agree with everyone that said exercise! I used to be about 20 pounds overweight and I dropped from a size 12 to a size 6 from exercising alone. I only lost 5 pounds at first but people commented that it looked like I lost a lot of weight. I didn't lose a lot of weight at first, but it looked like I did because I gained muscle and looked leaner.

    I tried going on the Atkins diet once. I'm not sure how healthy it is in the long run. I did lose weight, but I quit after a week because I got tired of eating the same stuff over and over again.

    Drink lots of water. Sometimes you'll think you're hungry when you're actually just thirsty. Eat when you're hungry and stop eating once you're full. It sounds like common sense but a lot of people don't do it. Don't starve yourself because once you start eating normally again, you'll gain all the weight back and then some.

    TA, go to a gym and have them do a total diet and exercise analysis on you. A safe method would be to lose 1-2 pound(s) a week. That means 10-20 weeks before you can achieve your target loss short of surgery.
    Being the case, I wouldn't count on dancing to aleviate your financial woes.

    well, I too agree with those who said work out--but there are two MAJOR problems with that. First is time. I go to school full time, and am a senior English major (LOOOOOOOTS of writing to do) with a 3.8 GPA--that doesn't leave a lot of time left over in itself. Then, on top of that, I have a job so I can pay for at least part of the rent, utilities, food, and other necessities. As it is, I can't seem to keep up with my school work now. Second is money. I simply don't have ANY to spare. I can't even pay all of necessary bills on time or in full. Luckily my bf has been picking up the tab. I got a two week free pass for Bally's but, again, I don't have any time, and, beyond that, I don't even have a car so I'm not sure how the heck I'd get there! *sigh* It's SOOO frustrating! I guess it really is true that you need money to make money.

    Fasting won't work for me. I'm one of those people who faints if I miss a meal because my blood sugar gets too low. But I did hear of a diet that sounds like it might work for me (since I have so little time). I read an article that said that a woman who plays one of the nurses on ER used a meal replacement diet and lost like 100lbs. All you have to do is substitute two meals a day for a meal-replacement shake/snack bar (like slim-fast) and then have a healthy microwave meal (Lean Cuisine, etc) for dinner. Plus you drink water and have lots of veggies for snacks. It puts your calorie intake at around 1000 to 1300 a day (if you go below 1000, you are supposed to be under the care of a physician). You lean to eat less and as your body adjusts, your energy level is supposed to go up. What do you guys think of that? :-/

    Don't forget that if you don't have a high enough caloric intake, your body will break down muscle to feed itself. (eww) And old roomate of mine started loosing hair after a water fast. I'd advise on of the low carb diets for fast weight loss, but they still don't seem wise long-term

    It's just not healthy in the first place to expect to lose a bunch of weight so incredibly quick. If you don't have the time to exercise at this point, nutrition will do alot. Don't do the meal replacement crap. It's a matter of educating yourself on healthy eating habits and sticking to them for life. Don't go Atkins-so unhealthy! However you go about it, think first; do you want to sacrifice health for a quick fix that'll only slap you back in the face, probably ending up heavier than you started?

    No time, no car, no money. Walk fast or run. If you have knee issues with that ride a bike and spend the difference in the time it takes to get there riding farther than necessary to get there. Spend your mind-time planning papers.

    Student--then your fees probably give you access to the student gym. Running on the track after leaving the library on the way home cost nothing, even it only takes 15 minutes. It probably isn't far away. Most schools have pools with open times and refreshing exersize may make you more efficient.

    No snacks!! Eat good, balanced meals only at meal time and skip dessert. Good luck. A number of little things beats 1 really big thing for safety and ease.

    1. fasting is a very bad idea. sure, you will lose weight, but then you will gain it all back and then some, especially if you looove sugar.

    2. speaking of sugar: STAY AWAY. sugar makes you gain weight extremely fast. i.e., ben & jerrys, pasta, white bread, etc, you get the idea.

    3. eat moderate to low carbs. good carbs such as veggies and fruit. some people hate on fruit b/c of the sugar, but in small portions it's great for you, plus it's mostly water. this will be the hardest part. you mentioned that you have been heavy like this most of your life. i am guessing that you have the "endomorph" body type, which tends to gain weight easily. check this out: http://canadacraig.homestead.com/morph.html

    4. speaking of water, drink ALOT of it. ALOT. you want to be pissing clear. it will really take the edge off your hunger. before you eat a meal drink a big glass.

    5. cardio, cardio, cardio. an hour a day. take the stairs. do the elliptical. it burns a ton of calories.

    hang in there, you can do it. also, if you really concentrate and focus you will be able to stay sane and lose the weight without driving yourself crazy. i've been in your position once and had to lose 20 pounds. i drove myself crazy to lose the weight & it wasnt fun. i wish i knew then what i know now about dieting and exercising. dont be too hard on yourself and good luck.

    I've lost 10 lbs in the last month on ediets. Basically what I've been doing is eating what I want, but make myself stay in a 1500-1600 calorie range. The only rules are that I have to have two servings of dairy a day, 3 servings of fruit, 4 servings of green, leafy vegetables, and 80 ounces of water.

    It's been working!

    The meal replacement diet is NOT a good idea. I did it once and I had such a hard time because just two shakes all day then a tiny little 300 cal dinner is no way to live and you get SOOOO hungry all the time that you end up binging and ruining your diet. You need to eat all that your body tells you that you need but you need to make sure that there are low fat grams, something with 5 fat grams and lots of cals is better than something with 200 cals and 16 fat grams. Snacking on veggies and fruits and pretzels with keep you fuller and keep you from eating the fattier stuff.

    As for no time and no way to get to the gym, I had the same problem 4 months ago and 15 mins of jogging moderately 4 times a week, I lost 10+ lbs in the matter of weeks and I slimmed down and built up some muscle. It's something little but it made a big difference. Try it, you'll see results.
