    Default Asymmetrical Clothing

Are ya'll familiar with stripper-faq.org? Well, the girl who runs the page advises against asymmetrical dresses. And at first I thought, oh, that makes sense since it does throw off the symmetry of things...

"One thing that I cannot emphasis enough- NEVER ever wear an asymmetrical dress (hem cut at an angle or one shoulder strap). As most people know, men subconsciously look at certain physical attributes as signs of good genetics and a desirable partner -- boobs, hips etc. They also look for something anthropologists call "Bilateral Symmetry" which means that your arms and legs are the same length, your torso is straight etc. An asymmetrical dress throws this off. It may look nice but you can actually chart the drop in earnings on a night to night basis."

However, I have an asymmetrical dress -- the front of the dress is short short and the back is cut at an angle. I was skeptical about buying it, but the color was this awesome sparkly royal blue. Turns out, this dress is my money dress! If I'm having a bad day $$-wise, this dress can usually turn it around. Maybe the guys like the color, maybe the symmetry issue isn't an issue at all.

My theory goes back to my original sentiments. If you can be confident in a garment, it will show and you will make money, regardless if that is the most gorgeous piece of fabric or a paper sack.

Does anyone have any comments? Do you have an asymetrical dress that works for you?

I have a tight knee length black and white one shoulder strap dress. it is BEAUTIFUL! I get so many looks at my shoulders when i wear this.

I say whatever style you like, clothing hair etc. Go for it! I don't understand what she means by NOT wearing a asymetrical dress, skirt or top, they can be sexy, and show just enough. Men can still see my big ass, and hips etc. LOL..

ALso i bought the Victorias Secret black skirt that has one side very high, and the other lower. With a black one sleeve low cut top. Very sexy!

Although i don't like the skirts that hang like a v all around. Some can be tacky.

To be perfectly honest I try to avoid anything asymetrical at all unless it is only subtly so or is just too damn cute to be left at the store and I can use my hair as a leveler on the uncovered or odd lenght side. I had one supercool dress that had a upside down v hem in front and long v hem in back but it had long sleeves and a classy drape front, not quite asymetrical but the little things like the sleeves and top drew attention away from my flaws. I will only wear a dress if the hem is asymetrical but the upper bodice of the dress is the same on both sides.

With one shoulder deals, a sleeve and then a bare arm or one strap and then no strap will draw attention to imperfections. I am cockeyed though most people don't notice in fact most people who know me really well only notice if I point it out in a pic or if they watch me closely when I put on my makeup. The right eye is slightly larger than the left, I have muscular arms and I have sloped shoulders---I mean geez do I really need one side of my clothing missing so that you start noticing one side more than another and figure out I'm just all uneven.

I'm a little puzzled by this myself. I own some asymmetrical clothing, and I'm not sure how it affects the guys perception. Maybe we should have a bunch of pictures of us in asymmetrical, and symmetrical outfits, show 'em to the guys and monitor their reactions! Then we can truly get the scoop on it!

Esmeralda, that bilateral symetry your friend is taking about is for your body, not your clothe.
As far as costumes go, I think asymetry is great. Have the one shoulder bare , the other covered makes it interesting and an eye catcher. As far as regular clothing it wouldn't serve much purpose but for entertainment, great!
What would people think if all you used was symetrical movements like in ballet as opposed to the dynamic asymetrical moves of jazz and modern dance?

That asymetry shpiel is a bunch of bunk. Studies show that animals and humans find more symetrical faces more attractive than asymetrical faces.

Think about it, if someone has one side of their jaw a completely different shape than the other, it looks a little strange. That being said, we are ALL asymetrical to an extent.

I have lots of asymetrical clothes, they are quite fashionable, and it does not affect money. What about those classy dresses with the leg open only to one side? HUGE money earner because of the mystery of a little leg.

One of my money making dresses has an asymetrical hem. As a matter of fact, I let my friend wear it to cheer her up and it seemed to help pull her night out of a slump and get the $$$ rolling too! I think if the style looks good on you, wear it. Some of those dresses can be very eye-catching.

One of my fave dresses is asymetrical. It's a day-glo orange color (looks awesome under the black lights on-stage) and it's a nice color change from what the other girls normally wear (a real attention getter). Anyways, the left side of the dress falls into layers around my ankle while the right side splits up and over my hip...

    I love the dress...

I think what that stripper was warning against is wearing asymetrical dresses that would accentuate any "flaws" that you have. Just a thought. =)

I look bad in stuff like that. I tried on a tight shirt once like that and it made me look like Tarzan and didn't cover my big boobie! hehe

I remember when I first read stripper-faq, I took everything she said to heart. I've never been much of an asymmetrical wearer myself..but I have noticed that some guys really dont go for this type of pattern.

I think you make the most money in whatever you feel most confident/sexy in. There is some truth to the asymmetrical thing being an unconscious turn-off, but obviously other attributes such as confidence, attitude, etc can overcome that. Just like those qualities can help a girl make money even if she's the least physically attractive in the club.

The only type of uneven dress I ever wore to work was work that was short at the front and long at the back. It was a beauty.

On most other girls, I have never really thought asymmetric did them any favours. That was before I read stripper-faq and I had to agree with her on that point. It does set the physique off in some cases. But in saying that, I do like it sometimes. I personally do not possess any typical asymmetric dresses though.
