Default Bleached hair .... Fix it

I have just bleached my hair. My hair on the bottom is a nice blonde color but the top is orange.. I've been told to use a toner to fix it? What is a toner anyways? Anyone knows how to fix the orange and make it similar to the blonde on bottom?
Without having to go to the salon....

if u havent fixed it already i belive you should go to your local beauty supply and buy your color and developer there. Buy a "white-looking" dye with a base:blue it will say this on the small bottles. Then buy a cream developer in 40% it goes 10, 20, 30, 40 This is the STRONGEST level so you will have to be very careful not to fry you hair! So if you are confident that you will be able to keep a watchful eye and be carefullllll its very easy. I would do an open air technique (just brush it on ) without using foil for some smaller peices but try using a flat folded peice of foil as hairdressers do to control bigger pieces. Good luck hope it makes sense!!

I had the exact same problem! my hair was a nice golden color at the bottom but ORANGE at the top!

Well the problem was that i had dyed my hair black with a wash in color the year before. i thought it had all washed out but my stylist told me probably not and that i was lucky to have washed out the bleach when i did because it would have never lightened and my hair would have eventually broken off!

So i used a toner ( a brown wash in color) and had it this way for a month, then when i had restored my hair through conditioning treatments i went to my stylist who is a color specialist and had the blond high lights put in.

I bleach my own hair sometimes but not blond i still get that done at the salon but copper (i have both colors)..... And the bleach always turns an orange color before going blond because it strips your hair.

My advice would be to wait and maybe use a toner in the meantime before attempting it again.... i have very strong hair i had all this done on top of a relaxer so i was lucky! i have heard a few horror stories regarding bleach!

Also in futher when bleaching do a strand test by Cutting a tiny strip of your hair and applying the bleach

she's advice is right about fixing it but....... i would go to someone who specializes in color repair and they can fix it and make it look really good.......orange is hard to get out isometimes because when your hair is going to blond is going (from brown) to red, orage, yellow then blond so brassy hair is a prob. good luck also if you tend to get brassy even after its fixed use s shampoo that helps to combat the prob. i understand cause my hair isn't that dark but when it's colors/lighted its likes to stay in the yellow fot a long time.........also foil tends to help get it out of there faster
    good luck...i feel your pain

When you dye your hair the bottom usually "takes" better- especially with bleaching- because it has more "wear & tear" and hence is already partially stripped.

You said that you wanted the top the same as the bottom - - - a toner will not do this. If you put a toner on top it will give you a more "natural blonde" look with darker roots.

To get the top as light as the bottom you need to bleach the top part (and only the top again), but using less time.

Remember- you can always do it again if you don't get it light enough- but if you get it too light your hair is fried and you're screwed. Also- AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT- don't put the dye on the first 1/4 inch of your roots for the first 10 minutes because the heat of your scalp will make your roots WAY LIGHTER than the rest of your hair.

I've found the best way to lighten hair that has a tendancey to orange is to use L'Oreal's "extra light ASH blonde". Your hair will not turn ashy- the ash tones just counteract the brassy color to give you a nice blonde.

    Good luck!!

PS- It's very, very important to use super conditioner on your hair now- unless you want to achieve that krispy kreme look . In my experience (and according to a lot of magazines as well!), "Terax" works the best. It's expensive-about $20- but a little goes a long way and it will literally save your hair. You can find it at sephora.com.

    Welcome to being a blonde!!!

What colour is your natural colour ? And what did you use ? When bleaching you should ALWAYS do a strand test first. I have gone from black to blonde and back in the same week.

If you want to get rid of the orange, you need to use hot oil on the hair for a couple days, this will condition and pull some colour out.

Then buy a Streaking kit for "bold" highlights. This will without a doubt make your hair blonde.

But make sure that hair is not breaking off. And always start around the face first. That is where our hair is naturally lighter. Don't fiddle around, this application should be on your strands in 15 minutes. Rinsed out after you check a couple strands by wiping a few strands with a slightly damp cloth. If not light enough yet, pull some from under the hair and put it back on the strand/s you already checked. Hair is naturally a tad darker underneath,so don't worry.

PS or if you are not sure, see a colourist.

    Lotsa luck!
    Pamela another bad spelling day.

The "orange" thing happens to me every once in awhile. I get my hair foiled blonde with bleach and every few months my colorist might not leave the bleach on long enough and some of the top looks brassy -I HATE it!! This post will help for the next time there is a "slip-up." Also, do any of you girls who bleach find that with the foils, every once in awhile the "foil" does not seem to go all the way down to the roots? The last two times I have been to my colorist I have had to ask her to get the foil closer to my roots, and she said she tried, but I still walked out of there looking like my color was about two weeks old. Aside from getting a new colorist (she is my best friend and would be offended), how do you go about making sure the foil gets as close to the scalp as possible? I hate being in the blacklights and seeing a line of black where blonde should be.

I don't go to a salon, so i don't know. But usually (i have seen) they pull strands and put the hair over the foil and start from the scalp and hit the ends. I don't know why she does not get the very top. Hmmm.

You know what works for home touch ups ? Loreal bold high lights. But with the cap, make the holes you want to use bigger. You get more blonde, and hit the roots to ends!

A trick i read about a few years back.

oh yeah,,,I was just reading the Sarah Jessica Parker beauty tip about Mane and tail and that reminded me of my old rodeo days, hehe.I had a white Arabian and his tail was always turning yellow so I had to use a blueing shampoo to turn it white, tryed it on myself and was happy with results, only once a month though or youll have old-lady blue thing going on! NOT SEXY!! lol, anyways if you do try it the darker blue the Shampoo is the better it will work, they used to sell simular stuff and Walmart, or at Sally's.

:-/ Well, My real hair color is black. My hair was golden blonde before not the very blonde almost white kind of blonde. Then I dyed it dark brown almost black. Now I just bleached it and the top is awfully orange. So then I dyed the top again with a dark blonde which really looks like brown color then I dyed it natural blonde. It isn't as orange as it was. But it is still orange and not similar to the bottom color of my hair at all. I don't know what to do anymore. I still want my blonde down there. And I am so broke..... to even go to a professional.
What should I do? bleach the top again? I don't want it to turn out yellow or white because my hair down there is not white or yellow.

I just add a small jigger bottle of toner to my dye, and wa la! No orange.
Or USE A COLOR WITH THE WORD ASH
You will not get any red tones or orange.
    Ash blonde, ash beige, etc.

    Learned over the years!

At this point if you have to have that top part of the hair blonde. You are going to have to go with an all out bleaching kit. Just do a simple strand testing along the way. And after the bleaching is done, let it dry naturally, no hot dryers, or towel rubbing after washing. You have done alot to the scalp hair, and it will need a major rest or it will just start breaking off.

In a few days after your scalp has gotten some natural oils to it after bleaching, condition, condition condition.

Rub a smoothing shine o the top hair, (i know it's a big no no, because you may get the greasy look, ) but this will seal the weak cuticles and help them lie flat.

Alot of R&R will be needed for the hair now.
