I know a diet you might like... I can't talk about it here though, people are VERY intiminated by it because they cant do it because they have severe cooked food addiction.

Nothing much, i walk my 1 dog once in awhile. (gosh haven't in along time now.) But what i do is walk. That is it for the moment. After work, i walk a huge parking lot for 20 minutes. I do some squats, but slacked on that too.

I better get with the program.

I have the South Beach book from a friend to look over, it's cool. She sticks with it, no problems, looks good, lost weight, has energy, and shows it off!

I am not big on diets, but this book is different, you can incorporate ALL the foods, because i would not give up a food i love...period.

The best diet I've found is to simply vary your calorie intake and to eat healthy. Also, don't forget to cheat on the diet every once in a while. It helps to keep you on it. Like rewarding yourself once in a while with a Snickers or whatnot.

To vary your calorie intake (and make it work) first you have to figure out how many you should be taking in a day (I'm sorry...I can't find a site I used to have that helped you do this). That's usually the amount to have if you want to maintain your weight. To help it go down you need to vary it

For three or four days go a couple hundred calories below your recommended daily. Then for a few days go above it. When you go below you lose weight. However, a lot of people forget that your body will start to think you don't have enough food and as a result will store fat. So, you go above to trick your body so it doesn't store that extra fat.

Also, drinking a lot of water helps. Don't overdo it or you can get water poisoning (takes ALOT for that though). I forget the reasons, but keeping yourself well hydrated helps you to lose weight and keep it off too.

As for exercises...I usually do yoga in the mornings. I also run and do some light weight training when I get the chance. I have to admit I don't work out as much as I should...lol

RubyRose you make a very good point, we had a few people die from drinking to much water. They ran a marathon like in the early 80's. drank a ton of water, and died.

I can see this happening. They say, (my doctor too) that we who don't do harcore sweating on a daily basis don't even need your typical 8 glasses of water a day. More like only 1 bottle a day (1 8 ounce.) would be fine if we do nothing that breaks a sweat.

Drinking too much water, puts a major strain on our kidneys. You will know if you had too much when you have to pee every 20 minutes all day long, or less.

I drink (now) only 2 6 ounce bottles of water a day, and now can sleep without having to get up at night to pee. I am not filling up on water, which is actually unhealthy.

We get water from vegetables, fruits etc. Plus our drinking water.

I never thought i was drinking too much!

Also i ws told that keeping well hydrated works wonders inside the body for our 'internal' organs, but does nothing for our outside organ...The skin. Only steam and direct contact will work for this.

I am stating what i was told by my doc. Also read alot about it on the web, it makes sense to me.

The more we drink, the more we just piss it out!

There is no best diet or workout. Your diet and workout depends upon you. What body type are you? What are your aims? Some people are allergic to certain foods. What is your age, family health history, what illnesses do you possess?
You need to get a personalized diet and exercise plan. What works for others may not work for you or meet your aims. Consult a fitness expert.

I totally agree with getting a personalized exercise and diet plan. A dietician or nutritionist combined with a personal trainer can do miraculous things for your body. I have an online personal trainer, a membership to the gym, and eat well. I bought that turbo cooker thing that you see on TV and love it. So quick and easy to make healthy meals.

Mainly I just try to have a wide variety of color in my foods. Usually the more color the more vitamins they carry. Also I try to eat a lot of protein, as I have heard this is really good for hair. Also I am pretty much active enough in my everyday life, as I bet most of you ladies are, that I don't really feel the need to work out much.( only if I've been laying on my ass for like a week, then I'll run, and lift weights.)

I agree it's a good idea to have a physical to determine your health, but sometimes people can't afford a dietician and/or trainer. If you know you're healthy, there's no reason you can't just start making small changes in your life with healthier eating habits and becoming more active. Don't ever rely on a quick fix "diet". Diet should mean the way you eat everyday, always, with your optimal nutrion needs in mind. If you don't exercise now, start with something slow and non strenuous, like a nice long leisurely walk everyday. I like suscribing to Shape, Fitness, and Self magazines.

Eating less and moving more depends on how you go about it. Sure it sounds logical, but if you drastically cut your calories and start exercising too hard, you put a strain on your body and you won't see (positive) results. A lot of women's health magazines will tell you the more and more active you become, the more fuel your body needs. Don't deprive yourself of nutrients.

Meagan to not misunderstand...i like to write short and sweet. Here's the jist of "eat less, move more"--
do not over eat (sitting and snacking) controll portion size (many of us do not know what that is) and exercise. People have been fairly slender throughout history, until modern times(introduction of processed, quick foods and the sendintary lifestyles many of us lead). So i am saying eat appropriate sized meals(or do small meals throught the day) keeping in mind caloric intake, and the mineral/vitamin input of various 'whole' foods(unprocessed veggies, fruits, meats, soy). Dr. Phil has even talked of "high yeild foods" meaning you are getting proper nutrients but also eating foods that take energy to digest, and take some effort to prepare. Then excersise=move. * disclaimer--this does not mean starve yourself and go nuts exercising...it means watch your portions(eat less) and move!

See, that does need to be explained to some; Certain people will not understand the healthy concept of eating less and moving more. Yes, you're correct, but take into consideration those who don't eat all that much, but it's entirely unhealthy (fast food, fried foods, chips, soda, etc..) So depending on how much one is eating now, should you eat less, or just modify your diet into something more healthful? Not everyone who's unhealthy/ overweight overeats, but it's a matter of what they're eating also. Though true, most Americans are constantly filling their pieholes with oversized portions of crap. Many just need to be properly educated.

The low carb/no carb diet is a quick fix and extremely unhealthy. It will kill your energy and mood. Carbs are not bad! Carbs supply energy. Too many carbs are bad. If you eat more carbs than you need for energy then they turn into extra pounds (of fat). Just eat meals that are balanced in proteins, carbs, and healthy fats (unsaturated).

Plus, if you try the no carb solution, and lose weight, and go back to carbs, you gain it right back again. Its just a way to slow down your metabolism.

There are also good carbs (oats) and not so good carbs (pasta). I love pasta too. It's not going to kill you. Just eat it in moderation.

Nobody will ever agree on 1 diet, because nobody truely knows what is the ideal fuel for the body. I take a logical look at things and see what I would eat if put on this earth at the beginning of time, before microwaves and protien shakes, and supermarkets with all their bright little packages of "food".

I imagine mysef not eating animals because I would not be able to catch them, and I imagine trying to catch them would be extremely difficult and take up a lot of time and energy. I couldn't see myself going up to a cow and trying to suck on it's utter.

I do picture myself eating fruit because they naturally taste good to me, are easily found with their bright colors, require no knives, stoves, microvaves, death, destruction, ect. I would have an easy time usnig my hand to reach an orange on a tree, take an orange, peel it and eat it. The orange would taste good to me, and if i desired another I would take another one. When I threw away the remains they would produce no pollution and grow another orange tree from the seeds, allowing life to continue.

Actually, I think all I would eat would be fruit because there would be no tv and radio telling me I needed "protien" from meat. There would be no fitness magazines telling me I need to eat this and that. There would be no USDA spending 250 million dollars a year promoting the meat and dairy industry, no food pyramid telling me what I should eat and how much. I would follow my instincts and they would not be obstructed by mass media and "government studies"

There must be a perfect food for man, one that he would be naturally attracted to, one he could easily attain in his natural state. One that would taste good to him without seasonings, baking, frying, salts, sugars, additives, ect. We must have a food that was biologically designed fo us that could be eaten in a unaltered natural way, the way every single of the millions upon millions of animals eat there food.

In every religion there was a time when man lived in tune with nature. The Garden of Eden was a fruit orchard. What happened ? Where did we go wrong ?

Is the ideal diet for mankind a diet of fruit ? I can't proove it for sure, but i would say YES !

Again, this is just my opionion.

    Things that are natural:
    Plutonium
    Earthquakes
    Volcano eruptions
    Hurricanes
Bacteria that causes diptheria, malaria, and other diseases
    Poisonous berries and mushrooms
High rate of death in childbirth and high infant mortality

Things that are a big fad that someone is profiting from:
    Homeopathy
    Crystal and pyramid healing
    Lo-carb diets
    Raw foods diets

Once again, I don't disagree that a raw foods diet will help you lose weight and is probably pretty healthy if you balance. But I must retort prostlythizers (sp?)

    That being said:
I only snack on raw foods, and try to keep them handy in little tupperware throughout my day when sitting behind a computer. They can also be brought to the club. Carrots and granola, grapes, etc.

    Also...EAT SLOWLY

If possible, get a road bike and ride it everywhere. Put a basket on it to put groceries and stuff in, and throw your heels in a backpack, hehe..
