Default To all you austin ladies

    Well Hello,
Just wondering how you deal with allergies?
I planned to start at Sugar's last week, but didn't think I'd get a whole lot of business with snot dripping down my nose. Im kinda petite so allergy med's usually make me feel like a zombi, and some make so clumsy I bump into everything. This weeks a little better. I sniff so much and underneath my nose is so red that if it weren't for this cough people might think I was a crack whore.
    Any non med's suggestions?
Also, I hate doctor's, prefer to avoid them at all costs.
    Thanks
    Fawn

If you are interested in trying alternative therapies for your allegies you could visit a homeopathic pharmacy to see what they recommend. I use a homepathic nasal spray called Euphorbium compositum to manage mine, that and high dosages of Vitamin C were what finally conquered my chronic sinus infections.

You need allegra D in pillform and nasacort to spray up there. Eventually you get used to the alleriges. If not, PM me and I can recommend a good doctor for reasonable price. Besos.

Is Benedryl too much for you? I take one instead of the recommended two (actually I take the Walmart brand, Equate Allergy Medicine). I think the body will get used to most drugs so they won't knock you out.

I used to live in Austin and I got used to it after a while. Everyone there knows about the allergy situation, and you will meet lots of customers with the same problem(s) as you, so don't sweat it too much. Take what you can to control it and don't worry. I think the homeopathic suggestion above is good. Austin is the only city I ever had an allergy problem in, btw!

Thanks for your responses. What are some side effects of the homeopathic med's? Benadryl is way too strong, even at half the dose when I hear people speaking they sound like there on the other side of a closed door.
Katrina, what have you heard about the homeopathic stuff that makes you so skeptical? I usually am too, but right now I don't think I have much choice.
Also, I've been in Austin all my life, so I dont think there's any getting used to it for me. But it is much worse this year then in the past.
    Thanks again,
    Fawn

Tell me about it...without fail, twice a year for me.

I don't take anything for my allergies, though. I usually just tough it out and feel all better within a few days.

I haven't experienced any side effects from the homeopathic spray, except that it leaves an unpleasant taste in your mouth for a bit. I am also one of those people who is very sensitive to medication - I can't take any of the non-drowsy allergy meds because they make me shaky, feel like my heart is racing.

Aggieed, I never used to treat my allergies either, used to just tough it out, but then I started getting sinus infections. My doctor said it was caused by not treating the allergies, apparently when you have congestion in your sinuses that just hangs there, that causes infection - any time you have stagnant fluid in your body it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.

Holy crap! That's what I had the last time I was really sick back in January, 2000!! I didn't know that!

I'm not the kind of person that really gets sick all that much (besides the allergies, of course). The last time I was sick was back in Jan. 2000 when I had a nasty sinus infection. Hot damn and a half! :o

Doctor, doctor, anybody seen my doctor...

    Omidog!
I must have been hammered the other night, I don't even remember writing to this thread!
allergy solutions which may work, they just have not worked for me. I don't distrust all natural remedies. My parents used them a lot for us when growing up. I'll see them this weekend, we are going to Vegas, and will get more information.

I love Allegra D. Now, Claritin D is over the counter
Whole Foods/Central Market has some homeopathic too..works really well. I'm also petite, just take a half if its too strong. Benedryl was originally marketed as a sleeping aid, don't use it unless you want to pass out.
    Meow!

Get ready for January-allergy season at its peak!!

what are some names of a few good homeopathic meds? I really need to narrow down my search for a good one, as my alergies are getting bad again.

Try Sudafed, It doesn't make you drowsy at all. Just make sure it's pure psuedo ephidrine, and not mixed with any Antihistimes such as Benadryl.
