Default YUCK! My hair is so dry

My hair has been processed by bleach for the last 2 year and I'm trying to rebuild it. My hair length was all the way down to the mid part of my back and I cut it a year and a half ago. It's now shoulder length (well almost) and much more healthy. I've changed A LOT of things in my hair routine for it to come this far health wise. But I'm looking for a good daily or weekly deep conditioner for processed and damaged hair. Helpppp!! [frustrated]

i have really dry hair and i use biolage fortifying conditoner ...but you probably need to get you a leave in conditioner until you get you hair straighten out and just dont color or put alot of heat on it until you restore the moisture back to it...you can get the shampoo i use at any beauty salon ....you can also ask your hair dresser what she recommends.

No No NO Pantene! [nono] (sorry Cash )

I've gotta second the Biolage. Looking for a good leave in? Try L'anza Curls and Color Hair Repair Leave In Protector.

I know some girls will disagree but imo if your hair is overprocessed and damaged, salon products are the way to go.

I use the imitation brand of Aussie 2 Minute Miracle (I think it's Suave that does it?) and I leave it in overnight. Yes, I know you're not supposed to leave it in overnight, and other conditioners will really weigh your hair down if you do that, but for some reason this stuff really works for me. Another trick is to put a little olive oil on the length and ends of your hair right when you get out of the shower - it seals the water in and keeps your hair silky.

With conditioning you have to read the bottles. Some contain 3 different types of alcohol. Alcohol is alcohol to your hair, and very drying. Yes it's used for the shelf life of the product, not the benefit of your hair.

Dry parched hair thrives for moisture. And there is no better way then to oil your hair!

Water and oil don't mix. You want to heat up Olive oil, yes it's thick, but penetrates the best. Apply the warm not hot oil through the dry hair, 4 sections at a time. Don't put too much on the top of your head, our scalps produce oil there every day. It's making the trip down the strand that can be a problem.

I then at times will put on a warm damp towel (damp because it hold in heat longer) on my head, and wait 20 minutes. They say after the first 2 minutes the hair shaft takes in all it can anyway, but it feels good to leave it on for awhile!

I rinse with warm never hot water, followed by Loreal shampoo for dry damaged colour treated hair. Only lather once. washing a few times will only undo what you have just done for your hair. One good lather for a few moments following the hair shaft going down should do the trick.

Rinse with cold water, to help the shaft lie flat after the treatment.

Hope this works for you all, i love it!

PS if Olive oil is too thick for you, use a lighter cooking oil. It will rinse easier.

If you just coloured your hair, don't use oil treatments for a few weeks, as hot oil pulls some colour out.

I like Redken All Soft conditioner. It has avocado oils in it and smells good. It's made for dry/brittle hair.

I always use salon products for my bleached blonde hair but lately I've also been really dry. I think it might be a seasonal change because of the weather. Can anybody recommend a good leave-in detangling conditioner that won't make me go flat?

i have white bleached hair, (and have 1 million colors besides). to keep my hair in optimum condition i use products i find at sally's: containing LANOLIN and/or KERATIN. these two things are chemically possible to bond with your hair, to be absorbed.
i use: Ions Hot Oil Treatment
Queen Helene Cholesterol (w/ and w/o ginsing)
    Ions Effective Care Treatment
Allways Leave-In Oil Conditioner(this has Hemp as first ingredient, and cannot be found at all sally's stores-ethnic product-)
AND if you want one of the best hair repair/rebuilders....Clairol's METALEX...this looks and feels like HONEY! it will thouroughly repair MOST damage...it's also 20$ a bottle...
i have done my own hair for 15 years--i have tryed most things(have NOT tried the olive oil however! ) and these are IMO the best!
    * i have had long and short hair, all colors...so i think this should work for most everyone.

I have been trying to grow my hair out ...after stupidly chopping it off..mine kept breaking off as well because I self color it and then highlight it with (kaleodoscope from sallys) for the platinum look..but about 1 1/2 ago I started using THERMASILK shampoo and conditioner..PLUS the spray in leave on conditioner (ABOUT $3.00)...before I blow dry it..Even if I don't use the shampoo and conditioner..I always have that spray and use it. It protects and fixes the fly aways..You don't have to spray on a ton for it to help..My hair looks better and styles better it i use it...I have always bleached my own hair..and at 32 this is the first product that I have found to work from keeping my hair from breaking off. Plus my hubby trims it in the back once and a while. My hair is WAY down my back now and looks and feels healthy almost no split ends. YAY! I think maybe a leave in spray conditioner that protects your hair if you blowdry it may help. And its cheap.

You might want to do other things as well to get your hair in good condition, basically conditioners just coat the hair, not repair it internally,a good hair vitamin, one for hair ,skin, nails, sillica,is a good supplement,an ionic hair drier, igia is the best, you can order one from their web site, that drier has done more for my hair than any conditioner, dont wash your hair everyday,3 or4 times a week is enough and if you tan, cover your hair,my hair will get dry and frizzy from the sun or beds, this all should help, along with the conditioners,it helps me,I now have somewhat oily hair and I have been bleaching it for 15 years, the ionic drier aslo takes around 4 months to really see good results, good luck.

I LOVE Pureology....works great. Even though it's a little pricey, I think it's worth it. It is made for color treated hair. I have been highlighting my light brown hair for the last 6 months and it seems as healthy as it was before I started!! I love their spray on, leave in detangler and conditioner. Never makes my hair go flat and it smells good too.

mentioning the Lanolin and Keratin, these two products are very good for smoothing the cuticle down. They are quick fixes for damaged hair to look great!

However, these products can not penetrate the hair shaft. They are made to coat the hair, giving the illusion of healthy not split end hair.

Oil so far, is the only product that does penetrate the hair shaft.

Pour some Olive oil on your driveway, it will leave an oli spot o the cement that has to be cleaned off by a heavy duty oil product!

Leave it on for months, and it sinks deep into the cement much more, and has to be cleaned with a different product.

Like oil from cars that stain and seep into the cement some.

I never knew ANY oil can do this until i went to the salon for products years ago.

Shampoos are harsh, conditioners are made to make the hair look good and silky etc.
But the one true great hair product is oil! That is what i have heard, and tried for many many years.

I mean cooking oil, no preservatives! Pure form. Very good for the hair and skin.

Fancy bottles help a sale, as does smell, but they do nothing for our hair. Read the ingredients in shampoos and conditioners, kinda scarey!

Always pick the one with the least amount of ingredients, or lather, believe it or not.

But i LOVE Loreal, because they are made for bleached hair. Contain lots of the good stuff, but it's a trade off with the preservatives in the product as well.

PS i used to use Kirks plain soap, and olive oil for conditioner. But i don't always have the time for a special treat!

My hair was bleached and down to my thighs! I think the hair will speak for itself!

    Now it's all colours!
Just thought i would send in what i have learned over the years. Not saying i am right, but my observation with my own hair seems to hold true, even with the oil.

There is something that they put in shampoos that make your hair feel clean but all it does is dry out your hair, I think it's called Sodium Lareth Sulfate. I buy all natural shampoos and conditioners, stuff like Abba I really like. I have hair down past my butt and when I'm not at work I throw a leave in conditioner in and throw it up in a bun and I've noticed my hair looks much better when it has a break.

Thanx for the tip with the olive oil, I'm going to try that tonight.

michelle brought up a good point about not washing your hair everyday. I skip washing every few days too. Just rinse rinse rinse, massage your scalp and then apply conditioner.

I use Kerastase masquintense, its a treatment mask for damaged hair. It really works for me as my hair is really dry and brittle from years of heat styling and bleaching. I've gone a little darker, but still blonde, and stopped getting blow waves every other day.

I LOVE Kerastase. It's wonderful but pretty pricey. I have been using that cheap stuff called Cholesterol. It comes in a plastic jar/tub thing. It's green and about 2.99!! Anyway, it has a nice smell and it works wonders. I heat style AND color my hair so it's super-damaged.

Conditioning treatments from a salon are good, too.

My mommy is a stylist and I asked her about the olive oil thing... she said it's the best thing you can do for your hair. Especially good for African-American hair!!

I use Cholesterol too. I really like it but my hair still looks damaged even though it feels soft. Where I live it's only 99 cents from the dollar store.

I want to go to a beauty school and get a deep conditioning treatment, they are only like $5 or something but now I have to remember where the hell that beauty is.

BTW, I used the olive oil last night and I can't believe what a difference it made in my hair! I think I'm stilll going to cut like 5 inches off my hair though and let it go back, it grows really fast.

Question: How often can I use that olive oil treatment? I only wash my hair 3 times a week. Can I use it everytime or should I wait and use it once a week???

Shayden i would (i do) use it only once a week, and sometimes i forget to do that. Oil will build up, but that is not a problem, use a vinegar and warm water rinse, that will take care of any build up after you shampoo out the olive oil. Only use the vinegar rinse when you feel like your hair is getting a little gummy or that not so clean feeling. PS i don't use the baking soda rinse because for me it dries the hell out of my hair, and the baking soda is a rough texture to run all over your strands. You want your hair shaft to lay smooth!

    Good luck,
    Pamela

I use K-Pak an intense conditioner from Joico products however, I believe that it is a you have to also work on your health internally as well. Like drink lots of water, eat your five-a-day of fruits & veggies and possibly use a vitamin supplement. There is a wonderful chinese herb called Shen-min that I swear by. This product was was developed for people who have had excessive hair loss and it is AMAZING! It really works. I have seen new hair growth, thickness, and even repair and color brightness with new hair growth. You can purchase it at your local health food/vitamin store or visit the website at:

    Good Luck!

BEWARE the olive oil. Do not wear it and apply heat or sun. This = cooked hair...seen it...seen the poor girl's tears.

Silk therapy by biosilk is great for dry hair. Smells yummy too.

My hair is pretty dry, and I'm gonna try the oil tomorrow, but one problem i have lately is FRIZZ. I hate frizz, especially when it is nonexistant until the first dance ends then I look like a cotton ball. Anyone have any advice??

Nice advice about the Olive oil, but your head has to get pretty damn hot to do any damage to the hair. I have sat in the sun for 10 minutes with the oil in my hair, heat helps the oil penetrate faster. A warm towel around the head is all anyone needs for heat. But when you heat the olive oil up feel it. It has to be warm t the touch, not too hot for your finger tips, if you are not sure put a drop on your wrist, thats as close as we can come to our scalp testing.

    Good luck,
Pamela, i doubt you will cook your hair. You need a very high temp.
