Default Awakening in AM with 'too tight' facial skin

Firstly, I am obsessive about moisturizing my facial skin. When I say I am obsessive, I mean just about every hour I apply moisturizer because I cannot stand the feeling of my skin without some cream.

I apply before bedtime, drink water, and upon awakening, my face feels too tight. When I smile with this 'tightness' I do not look like myself. I see frightful looking nasolabial folds which are the deep folds that run from the side of my nose PAST the corner of my mouth which cuts into the apple of the cheek. (i also do the facial exercises for this as well)

I am missing a back bottom molar which INTENSIFIES this crease because of the mal-occlusion in the bite. So some dental work is required.

I use either Nivea Cream, Petrolium Jelly or Baby Oil w/aloe and Vitamin E since I cannot use lotions with slight drying effects.

As the day progresses, my facial skin sofens up and looks better when i smile, but in the morning, I almost look 'older'.

Does anyone else experience this to a degree?

The stuff you use contains mineral oil. It doesn't moisturize, just sits on top of the skin. Exfoliate and try olive oil. I'm becoming a broken record, but swear by this. It never broke me out, either. Before this my skin felt painfully tight even in the heat of the summer. Now I use it at night and in the a.m. under sunscreen. Today I'm going to the vitamin shoppe to get a hyaluronic acid/collagen serum and let you know how it goes.

First Neptune you may be doing "overkill" with the moisture you feel you have to constantly put on your face. You are actually taking away your own oli glands from doing their job. Our faces have many. First, i would cut back on the moisture from creams and lotions. THey only work for a few hours anyway.

You must put water ON your face, a thick cream will hold water in for a time. But this does not even prevent wrinkles, or folds. Aging does.

Retin A is approved to help build collagen again, to a certain extent, very expensive. But works, been tested many times, and only by prescription.

A tight face feeling is not a good sign, you skin should feel fine, normal.

Slow on the products, let your face produce natural oils. I wear lotion on my face only at bedtime. Vaseline mainly. Or Retin A when i have it filled.

    Good luck,
    Pamela

PS also sleeping on your face will cause permanent wrinkles.
Try a humidifier on low, that puts moisture in the air, if the air is dry. Or a few pans of water around your bed at night will put some moisture back in the air.

Thank you Pamela. Yes, I have Retin-A and use it sparingly. What is a tight face a sign of?

Will using olive oil take away your natural oils? Will your pores be able to breath? thanks again-

Another oil to try is Jojoba oil. It is very similar to your skin's natural oils. As for the Rx retinols, I moisturize over the top of them so as not to wake up with dry skin. Then there is my constant endorsement of Kiehl's moisturizers ( sorry). They don't contain mineral oil.

And yes, as Pamela says: Try a humidifier on low.

Neptune it sounds like you just need to get water for moisture on your face. Skin dries out with lack of moisture, Retin A is very drying, but creates rapid cell turn over. Which is good!

buy a cheap humidifier and put it by your bed at night on low. Only put a face lotion on during the day, and let your face soak up moisture (water) during the night.

A tight skinned face could be a sign of product overkill on your face. PS lotions only hold in moisture (water.) you actually need to let the skin soak up some natural air moisture!

    Good luck,
    Pamela

I was going to say something about too much moisturizing and not let your natural oils do their work, but Pamela beat me to it!

I'd cut back on the moisturizing. Do it after you wash your face, which should only be twice a day. Before you apply makeup and before bed. In the morning a light toner will work.
