    Default Horrible Dry Skin

My face is not taking the change of seasons well. It's dry to the point where it feels tight and chalky. When I put on moisturizer (Lubriderm - sensitive skin formula) it stings like a MFer and I have to wash it off immediately. Which leaves my skin even drier.

Any recommendations for a face moisturizer that doesn't sting like hell?

Is your skin dry and chapped looking ? Are you sure you don't have psoriasis ? If so maybe see a dermatologist.

But winter brings very dry weather, my eyes go crazy.

The BEST hypoallergenic way to treat serverly dry skin is Vaseline! Wear it around home. You should apply a thin coat (do not rub) you are far too sensitive, so make sure you trap water underneath the vaseline. Water is the actuall moisture for our skin. But you don't want to keep putting water on your face. We produce water naturally.

Just pour warm not hot (really dry you out) or cold water on your face, once today, and then while it is still damp, apply good ole vaseline. It is greasy amd clean!

But you can't do better. (my opinion.) Don't rub, scrub or use a wash cloth, until you get over this hump. What you need is moisture! And vaseline holds moisture in better than anything i know of.

Also make sure (again) the face is damp, pat on a thin coat of vaseline. I hope in a few days you can go back to using regular lotion for oyur face.

Also the less chemicals in a product, the better! If you switched to another brand, you may be allergic.

    Good luck,
    Pamlea

I have the driest skin in the world, this happens to me too, like once ecery few months,I went to the healyh food store and got avacado oil and I massage it into my face at night, after a couple of night its better, also right know for the itching and burning,a cream with cortisone in it helps, they gave me that when I used obagi products along with retin a,for anti aging,or if you cant find cotisone, try something with oatmeal in it,use it along with avacado oil or vaseline like pamela said.

There is a rare disease called something like "igthyography" (sp?) . Well anyway it causes the skin to flake an peel like fish scales. It's incurable. Pray that you don't have it.

I also have dry skin and a mild case of psoriasis. I take flaxseed oil pills, it's the only thing that seems to work for me, moisturizing from the inside out. I also use a humidifier in the winter to combat the dry air.

You can also go to the beauty counter. Some top brands are excellent at treating skin. Or try something like E45. It's been around for eons and is still one of the most reliable moisturisers on the market.

This happened to me during my first year in Las Vegas. Having a cool mist humidifier in your bedroom will make a world of difference. They are not very expensive, I got mine at walmart.
Personally, the only thing I'd ever rub vaseline on is patent-leather shoes, that stuff is EVIL to my skin. I use neutrogena moisture sensitive skin on my face and jojoba or extra virgin olive oil on the body. Palmer's coccoa butter lotion is also very good for super dry skin.

E45 is VERY good and i strongly advise it for dry skin and eczema! Doctors prescribe it here in London for ppl with sensitive, dry or problem skin but you can also purchase it over the counter.

I personally wouldn't advise Vaseline for dry skin. Petroleum is greasy but you need a good moisturizer specifically for dry sensitive skin.

You should also try pure Vitamin E oil... I use it for both hair and skin! I also use palmers cocoa butter lotion and i add the vitamin E oil to it.

I hope i was of help.

PS. don't forget to take supplements omega and flaxseed oil are very good!

Well that's comforting to her Dreamer!! lol Estee Lauder is well known for having some of the best skin care products out of all the cosmetic counters. Pricey yes but well worth it for your skin. Ask the counter girl about their moisturizers and she'll ask you your skin type and go through that stuff. Then after she knows the problem she'll show you a few moisturizers that'll do wonders!! Trust me

I went from Seattle to Reno, NV (high desert)... I feel ya...

I use Cetephil cleanser and Eucerin normally but when the seasons change and I get dry I use Jojoba oil and Nivea creme (yes, really) on the really dry spots - and all available at the drugstore. I've tried plenty of others, but these work for me. Another good one is Kiehl's <http://www.kiehls.com/ > "Creme d'Elegance Repairateur". I love that but I have to drive to Truckee, CA to buy it. I used to get it at Nordstrom's or Barney's.

A humidifier will probably also help.

Good luck! We usually all adjust to the changing seasons eventually if nothing else

A friend of mine swears by vaseline on the face, and she has beautiful skin - I've never tried it, as I am prone to brekaouts (with dry patches...argh), but I have used it on my feet at night, and it works pretty good.

I also forgot to ask my damn question [bong] lol I have oily skin but just a chapped face right now. Does any body use any cheap oil-fre stuff? I love Estee Lauder and all but business has been bad latley so I can't fork out the 65 bucks for that this month :-/. Oh and I ment Jinx. Do Do Do... Marijuana affects the memory.

When I was in Seattle (and thus a wetter climate) my skin was fairly oily. Once again I'm going to suggest a Kiehl's product: their PCA Oil free moisturizer. It is less expensive than Estee Lauder and was perfect for my oily skin. Sorry, I'm a Kiehl's slut. I've never found a product line that worked so well for so many people. If they have a counter in one of your department stores (and I'm guessing Orlando has several if that's where you are) you should be able to get a sample.

Oily skin and chapped, wow...that does not happen much. Our oils protect our skin from chapping.

But with wind and cold air around anything can happen.

Go to the drugstore, and look at face or hand lotions, (what is good for your hands is good for your face.) pick a cheaper one that is oil free. You may be swapping the softer oil types for alcohol in the product, which in turn may give you more oily skin, from drying it out.

Can you try a hypoallergenic low moisture product ? If you want less oil, apply the lotion mixed with a tad of cool water daily.

Hope this helps, not sure...but i have read it does for some people.

    Good luck,
    Pamela
