    Default Stinky Feet!

I have a problem with my dancer shoes turning sour way before their time is up (of course, the sour part pretty much means their time is up!) but any ways, I wear a 6-7inch platform heel with just the one solid plastic piece across the top of my foot. I've "gold bonded" my shoes with the odor powder millions of times, sprayed my feet prior to wear, even lysoled them nightly with antibacterial spray and they'll still stink! I've even washed my shoes in bleach water, amonia water, even vinegar water!

I think it's time I turned to you ladies with some suggestions to keep the little piggies from smelling like pigs! [tounge]

Oh my! You just may have too many sweat glands in your feet.
Chlorine based deodorants are good because the chlorine will aid to block some pores to reduce sweating but I've only used it for armpits.
Ask your pharmacist; they may have a similar treatment for feet.

Megan, you might want to try lemon juice. I just read about it in one of my aromatherapy books and haven't tried it yet. But you have nothing to lose, and if you do, please let me know how it goes. Just squeeze the lemon, rub juice on soles of clean, dry feet, and let it dry. I know plastic shoes are a murder and there might be no way around other than getting new ones.

Ahh - those stinky dancing feet
The best foot spray I have used is by Melaleuca: http://www.melaleuca.com - the antibacterial foot spray has tea tree and triclosan, and it really works! You can spray it on your feet, and directly on your shoes as well.
Another helpful trick for those who wear boots is to throw a dryer sheet (Bounce, etc.) in each boot when you are done wearing it - it absorbs the moisture and odors, and you don't have damp stinky boots next time you go to put them on.

Have you heard of/tried Body Mint? It's basically a chlorophyll capsule that neutralizes every odor in your body. It has been very popular in Japan for years but it was just featured in a Jeannie Moos report on CNN a couple of years ago. It is just made out of the stuff that gives grass and plants their green color. you can get it at drugstore.com and read customer reviews there. hth! You can also get Botox shots in your feet (ouch ouch ouch) to paralyze the sweat glands--people really do that. Good luck --Shanny

Some people no matter what have feet that sweat. Watch out for a rash, however. The friendly little buggers that like sweaty feet may try to pop up.

I would try to put an anti fungal cream between the toes, no one will see, and this will prevent sweat. On top during break times go rub a nice light antifungal powder all over them.

Ps i know you don't have a fungus, but this may help alot. Say 4 times a night during a bathroom run go rub them down lightly.

PS Ammens powder is light, and will absorb some sweat, while protecting your feet at the same time.

Good luck, some people (like me) just have sweaty feet. Period.

ladies, ladies you're going about it all wrong. Unless stinky feet are getting in the way of your work whats wrong? I doubt its strong enough that a customer can smell them from far away, and if your feet/shoes are indeed anywhere near a guys nose then I imagine he has some sort of foot fetish and is loving it! so for those of us feet guys out there, we beg you leave your feet smelling naturally, none of this mint or tea or lemon or any other stuff... if you work in a contact-allowed club, you can even have him (us) lick them clean for you =)

I have some shoes I can never wear again, because the funk will just not come out. Now I wear sox with lots of powder in them. I've had no more problems and my feet stay pretty because there are no blisters.

once my dancing shoes get that way.... to the trash they go... I have tried way too many times to try to save shoes thru masking the smell but nothing has worked.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

Baking soda. After a night of wear spread that shit all over the insole and let it sit overnight, bang off the excess powder, repeat.

Oh, oh, oh. Buy multiple pairs of shoes. Don't wear the same shoes two days in a row. This will allow the shoes to dry completely before you pile more bacteria on top of them. (I know they seem dry, but for bacterial purposes they are still wet). There is a product called "Drysol" or "CertainDri" that essentially closes your sweat glands with aluminium that you apply once a week - on your underarms it stings like a motherfucker, I have no idea what it feels like on your feet, that will help with shoes, not boots. In boots the sweat is all the way up to where the boot ends, and it's just not healthy to stop that much sweating.

By the way, before anyone freaks out about alzheimers, if you read the alzheimery websites, they say there is nothing that indicated there is any connection between aluminium based antipersperents and alzheimers.

so how many of you actually DO have smelly feet? I wonder if this is a really common thing for dancers or its just a few of you on this board.

    Best advice here.

I model fetish high heels, and foot shots are always done in close-up. I have to wear my heels all day sometimes, so I always ask for two or three pairs to be available. If you rotate between different pairs of shoes, then you shouldn't need to attack your feet too much with anti-perspirants or deodorants. Just daily washing and conditioning with a moisturising cream or oils should do the trick.

I dont really have stinky feet or shoes but as a precautionary and to keep my shoes in good condition I spray them with a shoe deoderant then clean the bottoms with makeup remover (the soles get nasty build up of hair, tan and hairspray off the floor). I then sprinkle a bit of shoe powder on them and let them dry outside in the sun. I also try to alternate shoes if Im working days in a row. They dont usually get stinky but if they do I also use a suede cleaner with a suede brush on the foot part every so often.

And to the person who said its not a problem... it is. I have been able to smell some girls feet if they are next to me our even up to 3 feet away from them on the stage... Ive also heard customers complain to management about 2 different girls having stinky feet.

wear boots. put socks on, sprinkle a little powder into the socks and into the boots. rub a little deodorant on your feet.

and I agree with having multiple pairs of shoes to wear. if you wear a different pair each night it'll give them time to air out

There's a lot of good information on here, but rotating pairs works the best. Another thing that I like is foot wipes. If you can find a good ballet supply store around you they'll probably have these. I keep the "Bunheads Foot Wipes" in my dance bag to use at work. They are nice because they have anti-bacterial & anti-fungal agents, plus a cool mint feel when applied to the feet. Here's a link:

Here's a thought... do you NORMALLY have an issue with foot odor?

...Because I don't... but I used to take my shoes off for dances at work... and putting my feet where other's sweaty feet had been caused MY SHOES to smell like horrible, horrible feet.

yeah, happened with a friend of mine who was a lifeguard and his flip flops were beyond hope. I imagine that some stripper shoes are made of similar substance where the smell just won't come out. and I've had some running shoes where the stink just won't come out. ya just gotta get rid of the things. moisture will sometimes kill the material.

and yeah, to avoid, I've found none of that gold bond or anything works, or even tinactin or anything, but the stuff for 'psoriasis' that coal tar stuff worked wonders! I don't have psoriasis, but nothing worked, so I tried this stuff years ago (for a couple weeks), and haven't needed anything since. I'm trying to look up the stuff now, since I forget the name brand.

EDIT: AH! this is the stuff I got.

    http://www.drugs.com/mtm/psoriasin.html

I got the brand actually called, Psoriasin. And I didn't know it was for shampoo for some people, but I used this little, white squeeze bottle that was for other parts of the body, I think. So, I put that on and around my feets and presto! much better. I didn't have to use anything they said there. I just washed my feet, dried 'em and put the thick, smelly gel-stuff all over my feet. kept it on for a while (as long as I had time), then washed it off. Did this for a couple of weeks.

I mean, I'm still careful to dry my feet before putting on enclosed shoes and the shoes can still get slightly stinky if I wear them multiple times without some time to breathe and all, but the stink doesn't linger or destroy my shoes like it used to. And those are tight, enclosed shoes that get sweaty and without socks or anything. All my other shoes...dress, flip flop or whatever, don't even get a slight stink. So I would think open stipper shoes would do just fine.

I make sure to not wear lotion on my feet when i go to work. Also keeping your feet peficured will help. Then, I too rotate my shoes, I also do not wear the same pair all night. I also put a dryer sheet in them and make sure they are out of my bag so they will dry. Then, when they get really bad, I pour rubbing alcohol on them to take away the smell, make sure to let them dry for a full day before you wear them again. Us dancers, do not have stinky feet, but hello we are working/dancing in them all night. Plus, when we change that dressing room floor is not always the cleanest.

I always wipe my feet with baby-wipes before putting on my shoes, even if they're "clean" from an earlier shower or pedi. Really helps control odor-causing bacteria & keeps my shoes clean & nice.
