Default should I get hair extensions?

does anyone have hair extensions?...I have had braided extensions (i.e. Bo Derek) before but am considering the glued-in type to extend my shoulder length hair. I know a stylist who does it and it looks SO natural I can't believe it.

But do they actually stay in? I wash my hair every day...will this affect them adversely?

Has anyone had them and do guys like really long hair? Any suggestions or opinions?

    I just extensions done,
I didn't want the braided ones, because I heard it was bad for your hair and also because you can really feel them if you touch them.
I did some research and found about the epoxy ones (glue)
I had mine done gained alot of length. Now my hair goes to the top of my bum when I put my hair back.
I have received alot of compliments from other girls and also customers.
You can colour them and do the same stuff as normal hair. But no silicone based hair products.
    I just love them.
    Go for it!

I have had hair extensions for 3 1/2 years and I love them. I had them even before I started dancing. It is strands of real, natural hair that is "bonded" (glued) to strand of my own hair about 1/2 inch from my scalp. Altogether I have between 5-8 ounces of hair added to my head. The more ounces you go with, the thicker your hair will be. Since they are glued in, they stay put (some "shedding" of the hair does occur within the first two weeks though, but it's not much). I have really thin hair that does not grow naturally, so this was the perfect option for me. I can wash, curl, flat iron it. When I tell people I have extensions they are shocked (well, unless they are a hairdresser, they can usually tell). I get a new "set" about every 4-5 months. This runs me about $800. but to me it is worth it. Since the extensions tend to shed a bit through normal wear and tear through the months, halfway through I get a "fill" which is another ounce of hair added to my head to replace what was lost through normal shedding. I think the best thing about my extensions is that they allow me to do more with my hair. If I actually did all the things to my own natural hair that work has me doing (curling, flat-ironing, etc) I probably would have no hair! When I start curling it and smoke starts coming out of the curling iron and another dancer goes "oh your hair is burning," I just tell them "It's ok, I'm getting new hair soon anyway." Ok, just kidding, but seriously, if you DO choose to go with bonded hair extensions, I have some tips for you from personal experience: 1.) DO go with REAL hair, you wont be able to do shyt with synethetic (i.e.; curling, whatever, it just looks synthetic). 2.) The shorter you have your extensions cut the more natural they look. For instance, when I used to have mine down to my ass, I'd hear customers whisper "I think she has hair extensions" or "her hair is fake." Now I have my extensions cut to just past my shoulder blades and it is thicker and MUCH less tell-tale. 3.) Spray the shit out of them every other night! Meaning, to keep the glue strong, spray the bonds with hairspray. Espescially if you tend to have oily hair, which can deteriate bonds more rapidly after months of wear. 4.) SEPARATE the bonds: They tend to tangle into one another if you do not pull them apart on a daily basis. Dreadhead is not pretty. Must pull them apart! 5.) Don't use deep conditioner or hot oil on the bonds -they'll deteriorate again. They are a bit of work, but not much at all. I am a Leo, and we have to have "big manes" so it's all worth it to me Good luck!!! If you have anymore questions, just post them here.

My sister has thin hair that takes forever to grow and she got extensions for modeling and prom and it was beautiful! I've thought about doing this myself, but my hair is so thick and grows fast I decided not to, but it still crosses my mind. I think guys like really long hair.

I had the braided kind. NOt the braided Bo Derek kind but I had tracks braided and the hair weft sewn on. It looked cool but was hell on my scalp. I think the glued in ones look better but haven't tried them. I say go for it because it will make a dramatic difference and guys love long thick hair. Just follow the stylist's directions as far as what hair products to use (and any to avoid) and how often.

I had it done 4 years ago. I had cut my hair short and could not wait to have it long again. I did the glued type and all I can say is that it did not damaged my hair. I had it removed 2 years ago and my hair is waist length: NO DAMAGE!!
DO IT!! If it's done properly you should not experience damage!
Check at various salon because there is SUCH a huge difference in price and quality!
The girl at the salon took a sample of my own hair for the colour, she had it "made" for me and then I had the exact colour! I paid 500$ for two hair rows. Touch ups were about 40$ every 5 weeks!!

what type of hair have those of you with extensions used?

I am white and I know you can get Asian hair (reasonably expensive) or you can get white hair (very expensive).

should I go for white hair or does Asian blend in well enough?

I've had all types of extentions....the glue, tracks, silicone, they all sucked except one type call Great Lengths hair extentions. They use human hair from Europe. The bonds that's attach to it is made out of protein(keratin) so it's not damaging to your hair. It lasts very long but my suggestion to you is never leave extentions in your hair for very long. You tend to pull your own hair if you leave them in too long. Two to three months is cool then re-do them if you want. It makes your grow in time. Hope this helps.....

Ok I'm soo interested. I've had long hair all my life until 2 years ago. I've always worn the ponytail clip ones or the 3/4 caps for dancing. I'm so tired of it. I'm a bleach blonde with dark roots underneath. So heres my question, can you get your roots colored while you have the extensions? I have to get my roots bleached every month so can you still wear the extensions AND bleach roots every month?? Someone fill me in. Nobody that I have asked has ever known compared to the fellow dancers. So Girls I trust your opinion. Helppp.

i have synthetic extensions and very light blonde hair...yes, you can still bleach your roots, but rinse rinse rinse rinse the bleach out...cuz if any bleach gets stuck in where it is braided or bonded, it will keep on bleaching until your hair breaks off..i also get my hair colored at the salon same day as the extensions, so everything is all perfect.do not put extensions on roots or you are stuck w/roots...good luck!

I have the "Cinderella" method extensions (human hair)for highlights and I like them so much that I am getting my mid-back length natural hair added onto for waist length. They are very much like the "Great Lengths". My roots are touched up with the extensions in.

    I am very pro-extensions.

I just set up an appt to get Great Lengths estensions on Nov. 10 with 18" hair. They are so expensive. I am paying about $1500 for a full head of extensions at that length.
I am hoping that I will make more money with the hair and it will compensate for the cost.

I was recently in a salon and a woman came in and hand the long-term bonding glue put in, she spent about $280 on her extensions (not the braided kind, and it was the glue designed to hold longest). 15 minutes she came back in demanding to have them taken out because it was irritating to her that they made her scalp feel "tight". Keep this in mind- you might not want to get them a day you're supposed to go to work, because they take some adjusting to!!

should you get curly or wavy hair if your hair is naturally curly or wavy or does most of the hair come straight?

Francesca-- you can buy the hair curly, or have it permed before it is put in your hair.

When I usually get my weaves, I normally get the hair sewn into my cornrows. I'm able to keep the weave in for two months (should be longer, but I like to change my style) But, now I'm about to get my invisible braids done on Tuesday.

My ex roomate did a lot of hair shows, and she had hair extensions put in and they were absolutely gorgeous. They didn't glue her tracks in at all, they sewed them in. It was tight for about 3 days and then natural growth loosened it up. They lasted about 6 weeks and she loved it.

However, to get them sewn in, it is a bit more expensive and more expensive, but it looked very natural, and you could treat it just like your own hair. I have considered it many times, but just haven't had the guts to try it.

Whenever I get my hair done, I always get a sewn in weave. But my invisible braids look so sexy, it looks like... oh hell, I love them!! I can do my feature shows and get my hair all wet and get messy without worrying about messing up my style!
