    Default Exercise for stomach

How are all my fellow dancers doing today? Well i need some advise on how and the best way to flatten my stomach. I'm 4' 10" and 92lbs but I have a little pouch because about three years ago I had gained 27 lbs in two months and about a year ago I lost 1/2 of it. I want some exercises for the abs, but at the same time I do NOT want to loose weight. I have been doing crunches with somewhat results.
    Any suggestions ???

    Thanx

    Mya

Keep doing your crunches, but also i have learned from a friend that just sitting watching tv or driving your car....anyplace actually, take a deep breath extending your belly out normally, and on the exhale suck in that stomache far! Also just practice sucking it in anytime, not even with a breath. This will also help to strengthen the ab muscles more!

It feels good too! Do it anyplace!

Crunches, Pilates, do any type of exercises that sorely focuses on your stomach muscles. Especially Pilates, I have girlfriends that's done this exercise and it works wonders. I'm doing Pilates because I want my killer abs back!

    Ab excercises, two suggestions:

    bellydance and yoga!!

I love them, they've really sleeked out my body. Plus, they are low impact, no enough for weight loss alone. AND..they are good for your body and your spirit!

someone told me that sucking in your stomach in reps while dancing works your abs somewhat... i don't know how true this is... but if it works it's an easy way for me to do excercise... does anyone know if it works?

Do reaching leg lifts. Lay flat on a surface, floor or weightbench, etc, and lift both your legs at the same time. You should feel your abs working to get this done. If this gets a little less hard, then start doing it while reaching with your arms, fingers pointed, in a (false) attempt to touch your toes. You can't actually touch your toes without bending so thats why I said false attempt. You can also sit in a flat back sideless chair and hold your torso straight while bending to the sides to work off handles.

Oh yeah, yoga is really good, it helps you stretch your muscles. I'm starting yoga classes next week.

Sounds like you don't need to lose any fat. All you have to conentrate on is toning the muscles into the shape you want. When you do cruches make sure your breathing is right. You want to exhale as you go up, don't hold your breath. When you push air out of your lungs at the top of your crunch, you are training your ab muscles to push in. If your lungs are full of air while you do crunches, your abs don't get that pushing into the stomach effect, resulting in a hard, but pot-belly.

And like Pamela says, suck in. The more you do this the more your abs get used to being in that position. Soon they will want to stay that way even when you are not concentrating on it.
