Default Best running or athletic shoes

Iam having an awful time this year finding shoes,I usualy buy two pairs once a year,as they have a buy one get one half price or two for a certain price, well I have already brought back two pairs,as they were too heel heavy and felt flat footed.I would like to know your favorite brands, ones you have had good luck with,I dont run,but I usualy buy running shoes,I walk on the treadmil 5 days a week for 30 min, also go to the gym 3 days, for around 30 min also,no aerobics and I like a very good cushion, thanks.

I too wear New Balances whenever I go workout. The feel so comfortable, and I get them cheap 'cause I can wear a kid's size 4!!

New Balance have never fit my feet properly - they are too wide, always slip, especially in the heels. I wear Avia now, they seem to fit my feet and have cushioning in all the right places Also, if you have narrow ankles (like me) a higher cut shoe works best as you can get a good fit and avoid rubbing/blistering.

I'm in love with Nike. I had a pair of Nike for six years that I used as my running shoes for track practice and just sprinting. Best shoes I ever had until I had to throw them away b/c of the smell. If you can find a pair of Nike shoes that fit your feet well and make them feel comfortable then you'll be set. Lots of people wear Nike for the look, but I wore them for the comfort.

Aside from the issue of what brand, I just wanted to say perhaps you should go for a cross trainer instead of a running shoe. Unlike a running shoe, which is designed for only forward movement, cross trainers are desgined for sideways, forward, etc moving. I know Nike makes shoes specifically for treadmill use also. As for the length of use of a shoe, 6 years?!! Wow. If you are a serious runner, you're shoes shouldn't be of good use beyond 3-4 months. But with the mentioned use of about 30 mins/5 days a week, 6 months or so is a good call.

I have ran a couple of marathons in Nike's, but I have switched to New Balance. Nike wear out to fast, and they change the design every six months so if there's one you like you might not be able to get the same style again. Try the Runners World or Running Time's web site they have shoe reviews and links to shoe retailers on the web.

Well before I got my boob job I used to LOVE running. I was in track all through junior high and high school. Not to mention volleyball and cross country. I spent my junior high and high school years in New Mexico/Colorado. My point is, is that I liked different brands for different work outs. For long runs out in the woods with rough terrain I loved Adiddas. They have a special shoe called "Trail Running" I used those for that purpose only. When I weight train in the gym I really like New Balance. I feel really stable and planted on the ground for leg workouts. My boyfriend feels the same way about New Balance too. The only thing is that mine wore out inside pretty quick. Nike has always been my favorite running shoe though. Their heavenly to run or walk in!! But every body's feet are different so who knows until you try em'.

Besides the brand, I think the type of shoe is most important. When you go into a GOOD store. ( I would suggest a store that specializes in shoes, not just sporting goods) tell them what you're planning on doing and they'll tell you what weight and type will be best for you. When I did track in high school, I am pretty sure everyone else on the team did that same thing when they got their shoes. I think the rule of thumb is... the longer distances you plan to run, the heavier and more padded your shoe should be... and vice versa. (ie/ long vs. short distance.)

Its funny ,I have gone to,athletes foot, footaction, champs, sports authority and I know more about the shoes than these people, they are clueless,I ask them questions about, impact resistance and how the shoes are made,if they have air or gel or whatever and they dont know, maybe this is the problem.
