I have known some dancers to cover up stretch marks - big belly ones, the kind women get after they have kids - with body makeup or by wearing a garter belt and stocking. A lot of dancers - even the hottest - have some maybe on their hips from just growing or weight gain/loss - that aren't noticeable or a detriment at all.
As long as you have a good hairstyle that is flattering, length shouldn't really matter all that much.
good luck to you

While the "traditional" stripper look is long-haired, you can certainly do just as well with short hair if it is sexy and flattering. I wear my hair very short and although sometimes I long for long locks to toss around, I also really like being different. I have had extensions in twice, just for a change, and I don't think that it made any difference at all, in fact I look younger with my hair short and I get tons of compliments on it. I will sometimes wear little barrettes in the front to play up the "cutesy" look. If you feel good in your style, your confidence will sell itself.
Club lighting is usually so dim and flattering. Most stretch marks, and even celulite, is not even visible.
Your talking "small" imperfections. The answer is NO. Everyone has one, or many. The key is to NOT focus too much on what you can't change, and to focus on your PERFECTIONS!!! We all have a few of them too!!!
Good Luck!

Whatever you do if you do decide to dance...don't become too overly critical of yourself. Nobody's perfect. You will encounter people who may try to tear you down in a club. Be aware of who you are and don't let it get to you.
As for short hair...if it looks good on you, it works. Some of the hottest girls I've met in my years have had short hair. They look different and they pull it off well.

there is something in eastern culture that teaches/says that is wabi-sabi( not WASABI--the hot japanese horseradish served at sushi places) it talks of beauty due to"imperfections" not in spite of them, meaning(imo)that w/o these imperfections there is no uniqueness, thus no beauty! ~cool huh? it always helps me out when i am thinking poor thoughts!

i think that our little imperfections are what makes us beautiful and unique... for example a little gap between the teeth (like madonna) can be sexy... the main thing to remember is that guys are attracted to ALL different types of girls... seriously.... i'm sure you are gorgeous

Trust me, I have worked with dancers with the worst case of stretch marks, fat bellies, you name it. Fortunately, I have neither, but I do have like little marks on my butt from when I was on Depo Provera ( I got the shot on my right cheek), and guys think my marls are sexy like tiger stripes.
And as for short hair, I wore it short, and it was VERY SEXY!Do what's best for you, mama!!

I have some tiny stretch marks on my tummy because of having a baby 6 months ago. But, when I dance, no one will ever see them. Luckily, they are way down low, and I use makeup to cover them, since they haven't faded yet. I use Revlon's ColorStay Foundations and Powder. Find the shade that works best for you. It won't come off until you scrub it off. I haven't had any problems with it rubbing off on my costumes either, which is a definite plus.
Although short hair done well can be cute, I've found that I make more money when my hair is longer. Naturally, its to my shoulders and really fine. Add a fall or a ponytail with thick waves, and it will be a good investment. BUT, having it short should not be a problem for getting hired at a club. Don't worry about the stretch marks or use Dermablend.

NO, small imperfections dont matter. just play up what you DO have and work it girl![]()
I agreed with CarmenNYC it would be boring, just remember noone's perfect, imperfections are what makes us unique individuals, love yourself for you, not what others want you to look like........just be you........don't worry about it.
some imperfections are never even noticed. i have a c-section scar that goes all the way across my lower stomach, and can been seen with my bottoms on. i mentioned it to our DJ, and he had never even noticed it before. my stretch marks on my booty are covered by the lights really. about the hair...i have really long hair, but there are girls with short sexy hair that are really popular. with the right attitude you can pull any look off.

Funny how you mentioned the scar thing - I was really self-conscious about going back to work after my surgery, I now have a 3 inch scar across my lower abdoman, and it's pretty obvious - complications caused me to end up with a mass of scar tissue above the incision that is now a raised area, and the incision scar isn't even straight. As much as I feel like I look mutant like, not a single person has even mentioned it, I guess they are too busy looking elsewhere![]()
ara, when i had my surgery four years ago...my scar sounded a lot like yours. it was horrible to look at, at least i thought so. i went to a plastic surgeon in Atlanta and he gave me a minitummy tuck. it took a lot of my extra skin off, but he also took off the entire scar and redid it. now it is a perfect line that goes across. granted it is longer than the first one, but much nicer to look at. do you have feeling in your scar area? i didn't until i had the PS redo it. i didn't even realize that you could redo a scar like that until i talked to him about doing other procedures and he happen to see it.
I have some stretch marks on my tummy from pregnancy too...I heard about dermablend (http://www.dermablend.com) and I am going to try it out. I'll let you know if it works...so far, I've heard nothing but good things about it. I haven't tried the Revlon like Riannon suggested...may do that as well.
But, you have to be confident in yourself before you can dance...otherwise people will pick up on your lack of it...and that is the real money killer.

Thanks for the info, emilybelle - I will keep it in mind - I'm not too worried at this point because it hasn't even been 3 months since my surgery and I remember from previous surgeries that it usually takes a good year for my scars to settle down so to speak. I do have feeling in that area, in fact it is still slightly tender to the touch. I wonder how much something like that would cost if you weren't already going in for another procedure though?
Hey Venus,
Yes, I recommend Revlon's ColorStay Makeup very highly. It's a cheaper alternative to Dermablend. It never wears off on clothes, stays put until you wash it off. It works very very well. My stretch marks have not faded yet, so I was really worried about them showing through, but they haven't. I've never used Dermablend, but I know that a lot of girls have used it and are happy with it also. I'm not quite sure what the price is in comparison to the ColorStay, all I know is that ColorStay costs around $11, and it lasts quite awhile, because you don't need to use very much. Hope this helps.

Welcome and I wish you well in dancing...
I started in sept. and am loving it so much.
As far as the stretch marks... I've had 3 kids in the last 4 1/2 years (youngest is 1 1/2) and abdominal surgery last year in december. I wear thongs that cover my still stretched skin well (the skin is not tight yet but improving well) and clothes that flatter my features. I've NEVER had a gentleman make a negative comment. Also a Majority of the dancers where I work have had kids and stretch marks...
As far as the short hair, I have short very unique hair at the moment and I have alot of guys who LOVE it. They specifically like a woman with short hair. So you will have some guys like it and some who may go for the long haired girls. Everyone is unique and so are each man's likes and dislikes.
The BIGGEST thing you need to dance is confidence and a great personality. You need to enjoy the company of gentlemen. THat is my biggest selling point. I make each man I talk to or dance for feel like he is special. I give them my full attention when i'm sitting with them and I carress their neck etc.
You don't have to be perfect to do well dancing.
Let us know how it goes sweety!
i have huge stretchmarks on my belly and hips... you can't see them at all under the lights... and I'm a little chubby, but a lot of guys like that....
i have medium length hair... but 50% of the girls that I work with have short short hair....
HTH...
