I love merle norman, it smells wonderful! I go super cheap for eyeliner and lipstick though.

Ok ladies, I barely wear make-up and would like to start. I am a little strapped for cash (still not working).
I have never been known to wear foundation and would like to try it out. What would you suggest trying that wouldn't let me break out and isn't costly? Fire [monkeydance]

Foundation is the one thing that I would not go cheap with. However, l'oreal has worked great for my friends. The translucide is nice if you thin it a little with a moisturizer... otherwise it can start to look bad as the day/night progresses.

I personally use the Bloom foundation and a MAC concealer. I often add some of Benefit's "Hula" bronzer too.

On the eyes I use the MAC paints for a highlighter and Jane eye zings for the base colour. Urban Decay shadows rock for their shimmer over that. I use the Revlon brow maker on my brows. Almay liquid liner and good ol' Maybelline great lash finish up.

Jane blush, Body Shop liner (in birch), and whatever supershiney gloss I happen to have bought round out the makeup bag.

I dig MAC, Matrix (now discontinued), Jane and Elizabeth Arden for eyeshadows. I put my shadows on wet so they stay a little longer. I use Revlon's Colorstay lipstick in Scarlet almost every night and it works like a charm as long as you seal it with a gloss. Almay's Amazing Everlasting Eyeliner's excellent as long as you know how to put it on; you have to scrub this stuff to get it off so if you mess up you need a handy Q-Tip and bottle of makeup remover or it'll be there for at least another 6 hours.

I think the best brand varies by skin type and what kind of coverage you want. I like Clinique Citybase foundation, loose powder, eyeliner, lipliner and mascara. For blush and eyeshadow, almost anything with the colors I want. I can't use revlon eyeshadow or any cheap eyeliner... makes my eyes water all night!

    Clinique double-pressed powders are awesome!

I love Max Factor lipstick and an awesome teal colored eyeliner from CoverGirl Smoothers

I use Shiseido concealer-it works wonders with coverage and blending. I add a little moisturizer to it to make it perfect foundation. I can vary the coverage depending on my needs....lighter coverage means more moisturizer and less concealer.

I don't just one line for my colors.
Nars has a great highlighter....MAC paints make the best cream-to-powder eyeshadow. Clinique amkes good everyday stuff.....

I'm more of a spa product junkie that anything! Clarins is awesome!!!!

    L'oreal, no contest.

because they own Lancome, practically everything they put out is an exact clone of the more expensive Lancome.

Well I saw a makeup line on an infomercial, Bare Minerals by Bare Escentuals ( ), and since I've tried these I'll never want anything else! I have very sensitive eyes and they've always tended to water alot, even worse at work with the makeup and smoke. I've been using this new stuff for a couple weeks and my eyes don't water one bit anymore! I'm really amazed. It's not like conventional makeups that come in creams and powders - everything is all totally natural, no chemicals, and all the stuff comes in a form that looks like a powder but when you touch it it's really creamy. It gives me great coverage, covers my dark circles without concealer, and lasts all night. I don't usually pay a second of attention to infomercials, but this caught my eye and it really does everything they say! Plus the price is very reasonable and comes with nice brushes and video on how to use it - I'm hooked and I'll never use anything else!

I hate reapplying make-up. I never have to either. Lancome Photogenic Ultra Comfort foundation. Benefit lip liner is working well so far. Light weight mascara with a natural look, Lancome. Eye shadow, I need to play around with more. I've heard so much about MAC, that will more than likely be my next purchase. Take everyone's advice on the threads and experiment. Make up is fun to experiment with. Lancome offers a money back gaurantee if you don't like the product, along with many other companies as well. So if you spend $40-$50 on a foundation and don't like it or may be allergic, take it back and try something else. Experiment at the store trying testors and samples to narrow down choices. Just because a color may look fabulous on display, doesn't mean it will when you put it on. Have fun!!!!!!

If you have dry skin este lauder makes good foundations they have one they only sell in high end stores not everywere they sell este its 80$ but its great for dry skin and I love lancomes dual finish powder I have never seen anything give your face such a perfect flawless look ,you can even wear it alone if you have good skin, I dont wear mascara only false eyelashes, and I love plain old carmex for shine on the lips I actually wear it because ever since I had my lips done I need it on for them to feel good, but girls always ask what I have on it makes them so shiny.and thatas all the makeup I really wear and if I use eyeshadow I use who has the best colors but some do make your eyes red and itchy I just forget w/ones since I hardly ever wear em.

I haven't experimented much with makeup. I like to use Body Shop and Garden Botanika because they use all natural ingredients and don't test on animals. They have always worked well for me (easy to apply, stay on well, easy to remove) and are always coming out with neat new makeup products. Girls at work are always asking me about my makeup. However, I do use L'Oreal Endless liquid lipcolors because they stay on for a long time (even if you eat) but aren't very difficult to remove.

Bridgette, everyone raves about that stuff! I'd love to try it...

Does it come in enough of a variety of colors though?

Indica, YES! The eyeshadows are micah based and they go on SO beautifully. And the powder they use does everything-evens out skin tone, conceals, acts as a great foundation. Looks bare and natural. Awesome. I shoulda thought of that.

They have a gorgeous burgundy that would go perfect;y with your eyes
