    Default sore thigh muscles

??? Are there any kind of exercises or anything I can do to help alleviate the pain in my thigh muscles?

I'm a new dancer and it's been murder on my thighs . It hurts to even walk and it's especially painful when I bend down. Any suggestions?

    Thanx

Pilates are a really good exercise to do. They stretch the muscles and also help with flexibility.

Lapdancing requires strong quad muscles. While pilates is excellent for strengthening core muscles and toning your body, to gain significant strength in your leg muscles you would need to lift weights.

Some good exercises that work the major muscle groups of the leg are squats, hack-squats (my personal favorite), lunges, and leg press. All these exercises work the quads, hamstrings, and glutes. While lapdancing requires more quads than anything else, you mustn't only work out your quads. The quad and hamstring muscles are opposing muscles, if one were significantly stronger than the other you could be prone to injury. If you belong to a gym and don't know how to execute these exercises properly, I would suggest consulting a personal trainer. If you don't belong to a gym you can still do some of the exercises at home, with or without weights.

Are you sure you haven't pulled a muscle? If it lingers on and on you might have tore something. The reasons for that could be things like poor posture.
If it's just tempoary soreness take a hot bath then start working those leg muscles at your gym to strenghten them.

    Hi Kitty,

When I first started dancing, my thighs hurt too. I made sure to stretch before, after and during (quick break in the dressing room is nice when you haven't built up your stamina yet. Do that in addition to building them up as Kobi suggested and you will eventually not be so sore.

It is just a new set of muscle movements that your body needs to adjust to.

Hey, my legs don't hurt anymore! I mean, they just ache a little like I've been walking all over Vegas all day, but that's not a big deal - especially in comparison to how they felt when I first started! Besides having gotten used to the dancing, I've been doing some extra stretches and exercises, too, on my days off and stuff, so I think that's been helping a lot as well.

Now I just have to learn to deal with the bruises - which are the only things that are bothering me now. I have them in massive quantities on my knees - I look like I have some sort of disease! *lol* I have huge, really ugly ones on my hips, too. I just bruise really easily, always have. It sux.

    Kitty,
Try Arnica Montana and Vitamin C for the bruises. The Arnica comes in pill or ointment form. I say, try them both

When I first started dancing I had huge ugly bruises all over my legs. I took Arnica Montana tablets and that helped a lot. Over time I stopped bruising all together and stopped taking the pills. I think with experience I got used to the pole and the floor. I didn't slam my legs to the pole so hard, I learned how to hold my weight, and I didn't land on my knees so hard doing floorwork.

The only advice I have for the heels is time and practice.
    Good Luck!

Also, one of our trainers told us a secret. When you're stretching your quads, DON'T do the normal stretch where you stand, grab your left or right leg with the corresponding arm and hold. Stand, grab one leg with the opposite arm (left leg, right arm, or vice versa), and then stretch that way, and as it loosens, pointyour knee further out to feel more of a stretch. That stretch is easier on the joint, and it feels just as good, if not better. It's different. Also, do some forward-stepping, and backward stepping lunges when you have free time when you're not doing anything. It'll strengthen the quads and hammies, like one poster already said, if one leg muscle is markedly stronger than the other, you'll injure very easily.

Also, massage your thigh muscles by pinching and rolling the skin (like you would if kneading bread dough.) Sounds silly but you will feel lactic acid deposits getting loosened, and the kneading will stimulate blood flow.
