    Default bruises on knees

What can I do to help make the bruises on my knees go away faster?

Someone once told me to tape a penny on the bruise and the copper will help make it go away, but I only tried it once and it just seemed to make my bruises fall into the exact shape of the penny (lol ). Anyone have any other "household remedies" that work or stuff like that to share? It would be much appreciated, not just by me, but by other dancers as well, I'm sure! Thanx!!

    Love,
    Kitty

I know there *are* things you can do about it. I'm lucky enough to have a best friend with a German master herbalist for a mother, and she makes this fantastic stuff she calls "bruise juice" which works so great. Unfortunately she can't sell it or tell anyone else how to make it because it was developed as her capstone project and belongs to the school she went to or something like that... but if this helps, there's got to be something else out there, too.

Take Arnica Montana. I take the tablets, but I've heard there is also ointment you can rub on your skin. It works! You can get it at a health store.

I was totally discouraged when I started dancing because of all the bruises I would get on my knees. I bruise easily anyway, so it literally looked like I had been beaten! lol, Some lady in the store asked me if I wanted the number to an abuse hotline! My older sister told me to use Epsom salts when I take a bath or shower....and I found it totally helps! Take a warm washcloth and pour a bunch of the salts in it, making a poultice of sorts, and then just hold it on your knees/shins for like a minute or so. Make sure some of the salts dissolve into the washcloth, but not all of them. My knees are now happy!!! Hope that works for ya! All the girls at Diamonds where I work take turns bringing them in for everyone now! lol.... [wiggle]

    i heard vitamin e cream, and/or supplements...
    and i high iron diet...
but the only thing i've personally tried is shea butter
from the body shop and it worked wonders for my stretch marks, and i've heard it's good for bruising...
i'm gonna try it myself since i just started to dance and i have bruises that seemed to come outta nowhere... lol

YES, YES, YES!!! Arnica is the most amazing stuff ever. The tablets can be a little hard on the digestive system, so I'd personally recommend the cream, ointment, gel, balm, whatever topical solution you can find. My bruises fade in 1-2 days and never get discolored (none of this nasty black, blue, green business). Your local health food store (like Whole Foods) should carry it, you can order it online, or if you live in the South, Walmart sometimes carries it in the pharmacy area with the Hispanic herbal remedies.

I second the Arnica gel. I am never without it. If I don't use it, my bruises turn into permanant discolorations. That is why my knees are so much darker than the rest of my legs--they are from untreated bruises.

I usually bruise up very easy, but since I started dancing my knees are always bruised. Some people told me to 'stay off of them"..hahaha...wasn't that funny...My spine is very bony too, so it's bruised too, but for some reason it doesn't hurt, unlike my knees...The only way I handle then is I put icebags all over my knees after wrk, doesn't help much for he bruises but it keeps it from swelling up even more and it numbs he pain...

I just rub the bruise firmly with a comb or hair brush, it breaks up the dead blood cells and makes them move on faster.
A doctor actually told me that that is the way to get rid of them (don't you love custies that are doctors"), but he said not to push on the bruise yourself, just massage it with a brush or comb for a few minutes each day and it will fade out very quickly.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

I swear by Arnica. I used to work for a homeopath, and if you can get the chewable pills or tongue tinctures from a real homeopathy store, I would recommend those instead of the commercial brands. I got kicked in the face by a horse, took the arnica instantly, and then in the appropriate intervals later, and hardly any swelling at all, and only the tiniest bruise that faded in a few days. And this was a hoof. In my face.

Taking about 300% of the daily reccommendation of vitamin C has been working for me for the past 8 months. I also take OneSource multivitamins, they're awesome.

Some people find all that vitamin C to be too acidic, though. For the time being you should definitely wear thigh-highs, men notice that stuff and automatically assume you're some chick with an abusive boyfriend...

Whatever you go with, good luck.

a cautionary note of vitamin C- megadoses are used to induce miscarriage, so if you are trying to get pregnant, or are pregnant and want to stay that way, switch to topical arnica salve (internal arnica is toxic for the foetus) until you have delivered and are finished nursing.
