    Default bloating!

I have serious bloating problems, not necessarily corresponding to that time of the month. Sometimes I will get bloated just from eating a small salad or piece of fruit! It is especially bad if I have ice cream, even if I take Lactaid. Nothing seems to work, no herbal or over-the-counter remedies or even getting a colonic have helped. I don't have problems with constipation or gassiness so I don't think that's the problem. And I am pretty petite and thin so even a little bloating shows up a lot. Any tips on how to control or prevent it? Or perhaps does anyone know of a "condition" I might have?

Any foods or drinks can cause bloating. But you say you are pretty petite, do you eat regular meals ? If you skip eating at times when you should because you are too busy, (alot) your stomache will shrink, giving you a full feeling faster, and some bloat.

My sister went through this. And the doc. told her to be a grazer through out the day, her stomache eventually went back to it's normal size. Now she don't lok or feel bloated, but she was too busy to eat, and ate alot of food at once, while guzzling down soda.

Not saying that could be your problem, but our stomaches do shrink.
Or you could have a certain condition, with or without pain going on.
I would seek a Doc. Probably start with a Gastroenterologist since they focus mailnly on our inside of our stomaches and around the area.

    Good luck,
    Pamela

Food combinations can certainly cause bloating...try not to mix any simple sugars with any protein in the same meal...or in the same 2 hour time span (the time it takes for the stomach to empty that meal)
That one is a sure bloater.

"Beano" is amazing - LOL, believe it - it WORKS! Two little drops on the first forkfull of food will stop any bloating resulting from ANY meal. That stuff is very effective and I highly reccommend it. It doesn't necessarily have to be BEANS either LMAO!!!

You may have some food intolerances too - lactose or other....just a thought.

If its just digestion, are you very active? Is your system slow? Try talking a walk after a meal it speeds up the digestion process big time.

Thanks for the tips & ideas, Pamela and Leigh.

Pamela- I am naturally petite, my mom is 4'10" and 95 lbs. Yes I do eat irregularly but even when I had a 9-5 and ate meals like clockwork, I had trouble. However, during that time I always ate 3 big meals and I know that's a no-no. I try to eat/graze throughout the day now but I'm just so busy! I will try harder. I didn't know it helped with bloating.

Leigh-Beano, huh? I was always skeptical. I do think I'm lactose intolerant: my dad is and I also didn't eat any dairy products or eggs for 6 years. When I eat anything with dairy in it now, which happens rarely, I take Lactaid Ultra but that doesn't seem to work. I am pretty active, I do capoeira (a mix of martial arts & dance & gymnastics) for 2 hours, 3-4 days a week. Maybe my system is just slow. But I find it strange that I can get bloated after eating a salad. My only "real" meal of the day, if I have one, is dinner and I usually go to work (to dance) right after that.

Maybe you could try switching to breakfast as the big meal or lunch! this will give more digestion time! hope that helps!

I think you are bloating because its your only meal this happens to me as well if at first you may look thinner but as soon as you eat it doesnt matter what you will bloat because of not eating anything all day your body is waiting for the food and your belly will bloat right up, you must eat more frequently.

Breakfast!!! I think a breakfast with some sort of low-fat protein and oatmeal w/ fruit or/and soy milk helps a lot!

Pamela is right: you may want to get checked out. When I had that sort of problem, it turned out I had fibroids on my uterus and I had to have them removed!

    Cheers,

My colonic hydrotherapist said my bloating is due to swollen intestines, and after my second colonic she was right, my tummy (which always makes me look 4 months pregnant) went down considerably.

She recomends a few more and some soothing herbs and detox herbs for my liver so I wont do any more damage and my tummy should be flat again.

I have the same problem. I can look 3-4 months pregnant after eating one meal! I do think eating small meals and healthy protein snacks throughout the day helps, but the best thing I've found so far for myself is taking fiber tablets. Not the kind you get in the drugstore, but rather a reputable health food store. If I take 3-5 tablets a day, I notice a true difference. Which reminds me, I was feeling so good about myself, I haven't taken them in the past week or so and the bloat is returning. I don't know if it will work for you, but it has helped me.

Side note:if you have a good fiber formula, the first 24-48 hours could be a bit inconvenient and/ or uncomfortable, but that's just because it's moving things along. It isn't a laxative so you don't have to worry about that, but it will clean out your system.

Something you may want to try is cleansing your liver and gallbladder. Stones build up in your liver congesting it causing your body to release less bile, which in turn will diminish your digestion causing bloating. You can do a cleans that will make you pass the stones during a bowel movement. Don't be surprised if you pass anywhere from 100-2000 small green or tan colored stones. Her is a link with the procedure.

Hunter - Thanks for the link. I am going to try the colon cleanse first.
Suki - what brand of fiber formula would you recommend?

I think it might be a gall bladder problem. I had the same thing in the past. The doc can perscribe muscle relaxers for the stomach - after about 2 months of taking them you are cured.
