    Default Brace Face

Have you ever hear the nickname Black & Decker PECKER WRECKER??!!! Well about two years ago that was the first thing my boyfriend and a friend of ours said when I got my braces. Now mind you he was just joking around, we all had a great laugh....really.

I.m 27 (in just a few days 28 ) and I couldn't be more confident that these braces have done a world of good. My teeth were not horrible but proper care of your smile is something we all need to be aware of. I was concerned about how this would effect my job when I got them. However, I got an amazing amount of positive feedback from staff and customers. I showed customers that we are responsible and take pride in our appearance, inside and out.

The next step of this little adventure will be the choice of having JAW surgery.
I'm still a little uncertain on this decision which is fine, because the cost of surgery, time off of work...$$$$...I need to save, save, save. This surgery apparently is considered cosmetic surgery here in Ontario, so OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance)will not cover the hospital stay or surgery or....pretty much anything.

Anyhow braces are now more affordable and seem to be the new look girls are sporting this season.

    Any questions

The amount of time a person wears braces all depends on the extent of work needed. I am being quoted at 4 years with surgery and another year with a retainer.
For my specific work I think it was around $25,00-$3,000 for the orthodontists work. I still am not sure how much the surgery will cost.
I have the clear brackets on my top teeth. They are not as noticable, as llong as you keep strict care on staining them. Smoking, coffee, wine....and more things can leave the brackets yellow...yuck.
There are new braces that are more like a clear sleeve that covers your teeth. These are more costly but I think they take less time.
Anyways thats about all I can think of for now.

    Ciao

Yea the ones that Tom Cruise are wearing are great. I have a friend who has to wear them, but she smokes and they are staining. Not good looking when they turn a yellow colour. Must be able to clean them off at home some how, but she said the dentist has to do it, and it cost so much money to keep having them cleaned when she smokes so much.....makes for lots of cleanings. I stained mine neon yellow right before senior pictures.

Thanks for the tip about mustard, Jasmine. I don't eat a lot of mustard but when I got a hankering for it I might just say no.

Pamela tell your friend to try using a baking soda toothpaste or a mild whitening toothpaste. Also rinsing your mouth out with hydrogen peroxide will help oxidate the gum lines which can help prevent gum reduction, another problem with braces. Especially wearing them as we are older.

    Hi Autumn,

I have had braces for a year and a half now ( six months to go!) and I also have the clear brackets on top. I had them on when I took my website photots and you can't tell at all. I was unable to get the clear sleeve - My teeth were not that bad but the ortho said I had too much to fix for me to wear them (?) Apparently the clear sleeves aren't for everyone..

Don't drink too much Ice Tea either - it will stain like crazy!!
My dentist said to do the same thing- mix Hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and a little toothpaste to make it all stick together. Use it once a week. It tastes HORRIBLE but works ( cheap too). Also, Don't get professional whitening until after they come off or you will have two different shades of white on your teeth - one shade where the brackets were and another shade on the rest of your teeth.

Let me know when they come off!!!

I've been considering getting braces for a long time now, it's good to hear that other girls have them!
my teeth are the one thing that i'm really insecure about - i don't even like them showing when i smile,
so the clear one really aren't that noticeable?....might just have to do it.

    thanks for the positive info!

I've been wondering about this myself. My wisdom teeth grew in after my original orthodonture/retainer and crowded my bottom teeth before I got them taken out!

Does anyone have *any* luck with the sleeve? And how clear are the clear ones? I've seen some people beg for correction of cosmetic concerns only and get the orthodontists to use the sleeve ./prays

I would get the metal ones! Get a plaid skirt and pigtails, your tips will blow UP! About 12, start telling your customers to tip, otherwise you wont stay up much later on a school night. lmao
