I went to a consultation once. I did not end up getting it removed for a number of reasons.

The nurse told me that she didn't think it could be totally removed by that doctor. The doctor was inexperienced in tattoo removal (I didn't exactly live in an area full of cosmetic surgery at the time). The price she quoted me was way more than what I've seen estimated on the Internet. On the Internet I have read that it is around $250 a session, and most tattoos will need 3-5 sessions. She quoted me around $800-1000 per session.

Most importantly, if I get it removed I want it to be totally gone with minimal scarring. If that is not possible, then it will not be removed. I suggest going to multiple consultations and go from there. I also heard it can be painful, but that is the least of my worries. I decided if I am going to spend money on myself, I would rather get porcelain veneers on my teeth first.

I have heard different things about scarring. I've heard that some people scar worse than others. I've heard the most important thing in preventing scarring is the way you take care of it during the healing stage and after, up to a year. I think how well a surgeon will remove the tattoo probaly makes a difference too.

I had a small tat lasered off. Extremely painful, expensive and I needed more than a dozen treatments. Scared too in a couple of places and it didn't totally get rid of it, fortunately it's only small and not noticeable unless I point it out.

Ok, after reading this, I will NOT get a tattoo. That's my biggest fear is that I won't want it later.

I just recently got my first tattoo. I am 23 and have been thinking about it for over a year. Everyone who I have talked to says the removal hurts a lot more than the inital tattoo which must really really hurt. I love my tattoo and made special care that it would be completely covered for day time work reasons, also it has meaning but most importantly I think it is beautiful plus my money dancing went way up.. :-)

Congrats on your first tatoo, Schea I am glad to hear that it helped you increase your earnings. I am really curious what is the tatoo that works so well - a chineese symbol for "wealth"

once I saw a striper with really cute "kiss" tatoo on her cute ass. (like a picture of print of that lips with lipstic leave, I hope you know what I mean) I thought that was rather interesting

I am working on removing mine. I've had 4 sessions so far (laser) and it's about 25% faded. The pain is like a hundred ciggarettes are being put out on your skin.

I estimate that I will need probably 10 more sessions or so..

Also it gets so itchy! I can't stand it! for 2-3 weeks after each treatment the itch is so unbearable I have to take allergy pills.. and it swells like a mother***....

But my tattoo is so unwanted that I don't mind going through this to remove it.

Also, doctors aren't the only ones that can use a laser, you may be able to find a licenced laser tech that will charge less..

Google Dr.Bitter Sr or Jr. . He removed one of mine and he's working on another I decided to get last year. He uses a Ruby laser its suppose to not leave any scarring. His office is located in Campbell and San Francisco,Ca. You might want to google ruby laser as well maybe you'll find someone in your area.

Greggy - just REALLY think about what you are getting and where! Unfortunately, I am also in the club of no longer wanting my tattoos. When I was 18 I dressed all goth and stuff, and wanted to get half-sleeves. So now I'm 22, and only 4 years later I am embarrassed by my tattoos because they do not go with my style at all. They are very large, attract tons of attention, and looks pretty weird when I'm going places with my baby. Anyway, I've done a lot of research on how to get rid of them, and I think I would actually be happier if I just finished the half-sleeves and try to make them look as classy as possible. I have large, colored tattoos, and I hear that laser removal only really works for small, black tattoos.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried the tattoo fading creams that are all over the internet? I'm assuming that they don't really work, and are kind of expensive just to try.

I am going to be 28 in July and have danced for almost 9 years. I lost my mother 8 years ago as of feb. 1st. I have finally decieded on a small butterfuly with a K in the webbing. The K stands for my mom, me, my olest daughter, my son, and my daughter. I really want the tatoo on the right side of my pubic area.

I'm trying one of the tattoo removal creams at the moment, it cost me just under $100 AUD including the $30 postage from the US for one months supply, you have to use it twice a day and it's a three step process but it's less than 1/2 the cost of a single laser treatment so I figure if it works, even if it only gives me the result of one session, it's worth it.
I'm a bit sceptical but since my tats 1/2 faded from the laser and the treatments get more painful each session I'm desperate to find an alternative.
All it really is is an especially abrasive exfoliant and 2 kinds of moisturiser (probably one to soothe and another to encorage the turnover of new skin cells. Personally I think you could probably get a similar result (if it does give a result) from a body scrub some aloe vera and a strong skin renewal cream.
