    Default bruises

    Hi ladies!

Does anyone know a good way to decrease the size/darkness of a shin buise? I keep getting them from the damn pole and some days it's so bad that I wear stockings to hide it!!! I don't want to look like I got beat up, but I bruise so easily!! ANy ideas? Any tips?

    Thanks!

    Kennedy

Well kennedy, my advice as a pole hanger is to become lighter. Try to come down on the sides of your thighs, or arms. Depending on what move you are doing.
Are you hitting the pole with your shin? That is common. If so keep your arms extended and they go on the pole first, then pull your legs in, but at an angle. That way you will go aside the pole and not into it. And then you can pull yourself slowly onto the pole itself.
I am not sure what move you are talking about that is causing this.

I pick myself up onto the pole, twirl, and generally my shin is where the pole hits. Very simple move, but, like I said, I bruise easily. Not looking to find out how to avoid bruises (I try!! ) but more if anyone knows a good way to deal with them once they are already there. Also get them on knees from floor work. So far, the best thing I can think of is the stockings, which so many men like anyway, but are there any little trade secrets for reducing darkness of bruises?

I started eating more bananas. There is an anti-oxident or something that helps bruises heel quicker. I hardly ever get them from floor work anymore.

I went snow boarding last Saturday and got a huge one on the back of my upper thigh. I fell pretty hard, but the bruise although wide, is fairly light. I attribute that to the almighty banana.(LOL)

Taking Arnica supplements and/or using a topical application of Arnica is really good for preventing and speeding the healing of bruises. It is an herb that is often prepared into ointments or into sublingual pills (place them under your tongue and they dissolve). You can find it at natural health stores or in the health food section of many grocery stores.

Eating more bananas like corey said will help out alot. I am not sure if you put ice or heat on them but one of them works wonders! Be lighter on the pole also! Keep swingin!!

Well martial artists use a bruise medicine that consists of cayanne pepper,DMSO (an agent that penetrates tissues immediately) and sometimes snake venom. The immediate care would be to apply icepacks to the bruise them afterwards apply the medicine when you become ambient. It feels warm and diminishes pain better than normal topical analgesics such as flexal. It improves circulation to the damaged area thus facilitating healing.
The drawbacks are do not get it in your eye or sensative membranes. Do NOT use it on broken skin. The effect remains for hours even after you wash it off. Definitely do not touch your genitals during that time. It has a strong odor. Of course, do not ingest it. It's most effective superficially.
If you're still interested I'll see if I can find the formula.

I have always heard potassium pill's help keep you from bruising so bad and speed's the healing of bruises you already have. They are available at all store's that sell supplement's. My wife take's them and she dance's rather hard and is susceptible to bruises on her leg's and lower back, yet while she take's potassium she rarely bruises at all.

Vitamin C helps with tissue repair and may clear them up quicker...I take 2000 mg's a day time release.

Maybe just use some dermablend to cover your shin area in the mean time while recovering from the bruises and start taking supplemnts like the ones mentioned to help prevent them in the future?

I'm with the arnica - it seems to really speed up the healing of bruises on me and its relief of muscle soreness is an extra benefit. I also use topical arnica ointment on larger bruises.

All these treatments are great. And work to shorten the life of the bruise. You can not stop a bruise from happening though.

I would like to point out one very important issue, if you are constantly bruising in the same exact spot, alot....You can develop a serious blood clot! The best remedy of all, is to try and stop the bruising in the area with alternate moves.

I always find that I bruise much more when I'm skinnier than when I'm more toned and muscular.

Finally bruising less in my knees from floor work and some precautions, then I slam my upper thigh into the pole last week. Overzealous pole work is never a good idea...lol. Anyway, the bruise has been through the arnica, tiger balm, chinese mixture made by martial artist friend and now is covering half of my leg. I use dermablend concealer for the minor ones, but it doesn't seem that it is going to help this humungous one.
I'm doing the heat at this point since it's been a week since the initial bruise, but need some type of major coverage.
    Any Ideas?
    Much thanks,
    Ti

Yes, the potassium in banannas will hekp with the brusing, also good if you get muscle cramps, once again, because of the potassium. :o)

LOL The very first club that my fiance and I went to was not a very high class place to say the least. We noticed one dancer had these HORRIBLE looking bruises on the outside of her thighs, and we being really suburban and "green" thought that she had been beat by someone.

Boy did we feel like assholes when she got up on stage and started working the pole, seems that her bruises matched perfectly with where the pole came into contact while she was doing her routine.

    Hey there,

Try Witch Hazel for bruises. You can get it at any pharmacy or health-care store.
At night, before you go to bed, soak a cotton pad with Witch Hazel and wring out the excess. Put it over the bruise and either cover it with medical tape or a band-aid.
When you wake up, the bruise shouldn't look as deep. Keep applying the Witch Hazel nightly and the bruise should be much better - or even all gone - soon.
My knees usually get bruised from doing floor-work, but Witch Hazel really helps.
    Take care,

    Nikki

Arnica is brilliant for bruises! It comes in gel or cream which you rub directly into the bruise, or you can get tablets if you have had an accident or surgery etc.

It is an easy mistake to make - one guy I met thought that a dancer was being abused until I told him to watch her on stage!

The problem with all these topical linnaments , while they do help healing by increasing blood flow, is that they are primarily to stop pain so you can do normal chores without going "Ouch!" all the time.
The only thing that really heals bruises is time. That means you have to lay off that spot until it gets all better. You might try knee high boots with padding inside. You might have to change your routine to utilize a different spot on your body.
I notice that the more I practice that the less intense the bruising and the tougher the underlying muscles. But once a bruise forms you can't just continue to aggravate it. You must wait until it subsists before you work that area again.

I take the Arnica Montana pills. I found out about them when I had my BA and started taking them then. They work good, but you have to chew them and they don't taste great.

Totally agree with tampafldancer VITAMIN K. On the back of the bottle it says it helps diminish bruises and spider veins. That is what my doctor told me told me to use after I had my BA. You can but it for a few bucks at Sally's beauty supply.

I used to get a really big ones on my left inner thigh from jumping up on the pole.

I race motocross, so I always have to be careful....this last weekend I almost went over the bars on a new double I clipped with the back of my quad.....I have big bruises on both of my thighs from my handlebars........do you think these topical treatments will help at all? They go away in about 4 - 5 days on their own - will anything speed up the process?
