    Default Newbie Clothing Questions

    Hi everyone!

I have a few questions about buying my first costumes, but first, let me introduce myself. My name is Maria, and since my 18th birthday 8 months ago, I've been seriously considering becoming a dancer - that's what led me to this board, and I've thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning here. At this point in time, I can not afford to go to my first choice university, which is why I have been looking into such a career. If possible, I'd like to save some of my earnings for an IRA, or investing, as well.

For the last half of a year, I've been getting in shape, trying different hair and makeup looks, etc - I decided that if, by the time I felt confident enough to dance, I wasn't mentally prepared to shake my naked butt in front of a room full of strangers [boobies], at least I'd look great, so not too huge of a risk LOL! At this point, I feel awesome - I've never been so healthy (yay for running and health food!), or happy with how I look. I really don't have an issue with stripping, especially since it's just a job that will be the first step to the sort of life I'd like (namely educated, and financially stable). Now that I'm through with my life story schpeil...

I'm looking to buy and outfit or two for my audition(s), but I'm not sure what would be the best way to go. My local clubs are all very blue collar/neighborhoody, so even though I'd love to do a whole crazy theme getup and really stand out, would it be wiser for me to buy a 'plain' top/skirt/g-string set and clear shoes to start with, and be content to blend into the crowd of dancers, therefore making less money, if I do get hired? I realize that I will be able to purchase other outfits and shoes in time, but since money is tight, I'd like to make every item count. The other local girls all wear very standard stuff - itty bitty denim shorts or skirts, and slutty t-shirts. That's not me, but I have the potential to look totally ridiculous walking out dressed as a police officer [dazzled]

Secondly, are all clothes sold as Clubwear or Exotic Dancewear fairly easy to get out of sexily? What a silly question, I know, but before I order something (around here, only the house moms sell, if you can believe it - no stripper store!), I'd like to know if I should get something with a zipper or buttons down the front, or that ties (a sarong and bandeau set, f.e.), just to be safe. I can't see myself being able to pull a stretchy long sleeved shirt over my poofy hair with any sort of grace!

My last questions are these; when I've done my whole strip-down, and my set is over, should I just try to collect my shed clothes as sexily as possible, or what? I haven't quite figured that one out yet. When I've slipped into the two clubs I'm interested in working at, there were dressed girls walking the floor and a topless girl who's already stripped on the stage, but I haven't seen anyone collect what they've stripped.

Many thanks for reading all the way though my long post!

Hi,My name is Satina.I think that you should start in something simular to the styles the girls in the clubs are weraing that you are checking out.It is hard enough to just walk in and audition but to have the pressure of others dancers checking you out.It might be better to start with a theme outfit after you are a little more comfortable with your environment and stage etc.Maybe even get something that you could wear again laying out etc.Thats not to say that you can not look fantastic. You do want to feel sexy and confident with your outfit also.Clear shoes are great because they are a no brainer and wear with anything.Satina

maria-- i just recently started dancing as well. before i started, i went to a few clubs with some of my friends and just observed what they do; this helped me more than anything else because you SEE what is going on, how the girls dance, how they behave, what they wear, how they undress, how they pick up their clothes. i have only been dancing for a little while and i am kind of starting to get the hang of it. so will you.

I started out in a neighborhoody club. I wouldn't spend a lot on costumes. Actually, the club I started at, some girls had sexy dresses and outfits, but others did fine wearing lingerie from Wal-Mart. Where I dance now, one girl often works in a plain gray skirt and a white blouse. True, in the club she only buttons two buttons on the blouse, but she makes good money in what is actually "regular" clothes.

As far as outfits, most girls go with less. The girls at the clubs you visited keep it simple for a good reason. Its hard to look sexy taking off 5 or 6 articles of clothing. For the same reason I'd avoid anything with too many buttons if I were you. It's hard to look sexy fumbling with a bunch of butons.

If you find a sexy way to gather up your clothes after your set, let me know. What I do is always leave my clothes in the same place, that way I don't have to wander around the stage like I'm on an easter egg hunt.

    Good Luck!

I would say start with something similar to what they're wearing but classier. No t-shirts. Maybe a two peice set from the bargains section of trashy.com or the closeout section of krystals.com. If it's that much of a neighborhood club, you can probably get away with regular heels for your first week or two.

Oh, and collecting your clothes... as you take them off kick or toss them all to the same place at the back of the stage. When you're done, bend over sexily to get them and confidently twirl your g-string around your finger as you walk off stage.
