Hey there Brooklyn,
Try going vegetarian.
I became a vegetarian about 4 years ago and have lost some weight. It's also healthier because then you're not ingesting all the fats and chemicals that go along with meat. A great website is
Also try doing basic exercises that focus on your problem spots (ie: sit-ups, crunches, lunges, etc..).
Take care & hope this helps,
Nikki
Vegetarianism is a great way to stay trim- provided you eat the right foods. It is generally pretty difficult, however, to end up overweight as a vegetarian, and of course, there are many other great reasons to go (or stay) veggie. (Environmental, religious/spiritual, humanitarian, animal rights-the current state of mass production is grotesque and masochistic when you know the facts-, and the list goes on... Mabey it's just my opinion, but it seems the only logical choice...
Oh... you had to get me started on this one...
(I've been vegetarian for five years, with a year-long vegan stint. I can't cook, so I did very poorly on a dairy-free diet.)
PETA also has a very informative website.
Really, I swear I'm not usually this bad... it's just this one topic.
Make the right choice for you.
Good luck!![]()
Something I forgot to add in my first post to this...
Please, when I say 'go vegetarian'... put some thought into it. Sure, popcorn and peanuts are vegetarian but it doesn't mean you'll be healthy if you eat them all the time.
If you eat junk food all the time, regardless of what it is, it won't do you any good.
Variety is key.
Start off small, with a dish you like. Say, for example, pasta with meat sauce. (I know.. I know... pasta is a bad word on the forum, but bear with me, lol). Omit the meat and replace it with veggie ground round (Yves makes a great product, so does Boca). Work from there. Incorporate lots of fresh veggies into your diet (darker ones are the best as they have the most vitamins) and stick with it for awhile.
You won't see results in a week, though you'll probably feel better. Give it time.
Nikki
(P.S. - Awesome, Charlotte!)
Also, in China there are few to no "fat" people, it's when they adopt our diet they become fat. There is a good lesson learned by these people heart disease is almost non-existant, as is menopause.
Soy, and other types of beans, rice, vegetables, fruits etc. all in their natural state. It's a tough program to stick with in the states, but do-able.
I love their food.

There are no localized exercises that help you lose the inches where you want it to. Your genetics decided where it was going to store the extra pounds when you were born.
Take a general weight loss class such as aerobics. Don't consume high fat junk food. Eat sensably. Becoming a vegetarian doesn't guarantee you won't put on weight.
Dreamer --Becoming a vegetarian doesn't guarantee you won't put on weight.
I won't get into a debate on vegetarianism on this board, since it isn't the right place, however...
A vegetarian diet has many more benefits then draw-backs.
It doesn't only help ourselves, it helps the environment as well. (I see that a lot of girls on here are into environmental causes).
Here's a little food for thought:
Take care,
Nikki

Cardio + weight lifting + watching what you eat = weight loss!
I really think this is the best combination for optimum weight loss that stays.
CARDIO
Cardiovascular exercise helps you burn calories. Extra calories make you gain weight. Start with three half hour sessions a week. Move up to 5- 1/2 to 1 hour sessions per week. In a session of cardio you should vary the intensity for optimum weight loss. For instance jog for 5 mins. then walk for 5 mins.,etc. Cardio sounds rough for some people, but for me its my time to clear my head and really think, plus the highs you get from it are great.
WEIGHT LIFTING
No this will not make you bulky. For every pound of muscle you have, the higher your metabolism is going to be. Consult a trainer to show you how to properly use weights. It is very important to know how to do it correctly, because if you lift weights wrong or with improper form, you could be wasting time and/or injure yourself. We all know we have no room for injuries! I think it is very important for woman to lift. Not only do we lose weight, but it is great for our bones. My goal is to get more lean so I do a full body workout, 3 times a week.
Example:
Leg Press
Bicep Curls
Assisted Chin-ups
Tricep Pushdown
Calf raise
That way I work every body part.
EATING
It is important not to starve yourself. If you don't get enough calories in a day, your metabolism will slow down. It will be a lot harder to build muscle and lose fat.
Eat 5-6 meals throughout the day (grazing). Eat healthy. Eat everything in moderation. Being a vegetarian is good, but not for everyone. I tried it for two months. I couldn't hack it. I love meat! You also have to work harder to get your nutrients. It definitely worked for my mom though. Whether you are a vegetarian or not, just eat smart. You know in your head what is good for you and what isn't. Don't eat when you're not hungry.
I read "Oxygen" and " Muscle and Fitness Hers" magazines for motivation and knowledge. The more you know about what you are trying to accomplish, the easier it is. Find what motivates you! For me it is fitness model Sarah Orbanic. I want her body. We are also the same height (5'1") and athletic so it is realistic for me to get a body like that.
Good Luck! Remember, if it were easy, everybody would be skinny and beautiful.
thanks for advice![]()
