Default Should I do it now?

I am in my first trimester with my second child. I am starting to take the prenatal vitamins, and wonder, if I get my hair cut drastically now, how long will it take to grow back healthy? I have ALWAYS hated my hair, and bleach it blond. It's about shoulder lea nth, and never grows. I wear falls and clip on hair extevtions, so if I get a bob or something, it really won't affect my money, as I wear these hair enhachements anyway. My hair has been on a pitiful standstill for growing for a couple of years, because I never wanted to sacrifice the little leagnth I have. I am recently graduated from college and have a few interviews lined up, I thought it would be nice to have a good functional haircut. I have always wanted to have nice hair. Also, I know I can't color my hair anymore, but pretty soon the roots will begin to show and it will be drastic, how can I camouflage this? Any advice or suggestions, besides shaving it all off?

    D congrats!

If anything, pregnancy should make your hair look great, and grow pretty quickly.

When I graduated from college last year, I got a more business like hair cut. It broke my heart. But, I got a job, so what can I say. Of course, as soon as the ink was dry on the employment contract, I let my hair grow out.

As far as hair coloring goes, you should talk to your midwife. Mine told me not to color mine, but I don't remember why she said that.

PS, i'm preggers too! Isn't it great!

I second the hair growth thing as result of pregnancy - but remembering the opposite can be true too - if you arent healthy or neglect your own health for whatever reasons before the pregnancy they baby will take what it needs from your body leaving you depleted. The way of life and survival - its not as though the baby will share or leave you some - it will take exactly what it needs leaving you short or without.

I know of girls who lost hair their skin erupted and did experience hair loss - some even had some serious tooth decay.
    Stress a big factor too.

Anyhow - about the hair color apparantly the bleach/hair color chemicals sitting on your scalp apparantly its thought to absorb into the bloodstream - and therein lies an issue as you share your blood with your child what ever you do effects the child.

I guess the same would apply to perms and or any chemical processes to the hair - BUT

what about henna? Thats an all vegetable color...

you can at least return your hair to its original color so you dont have to deal with roots...

Although there is an issue on going back to regular haircolor products if you once henna'd your hair but not if you switch TO the henna.

Just thought I would throw that out there along with a congratulations and I say get the cut - sometimes the shock is fun and you will love it I bet ya!

Never explain yourself to anyone, because the person who likes you doesn't need it and the person that dislikes you won't believe it.

    Hi,
your hair will grow the same it always has 1/2 inch per month. Pregnancy does not make it grow faster, the hormones make the new growth more lush and sometimes fuller. This is temporary. After baby is born alot (sctually 90% of women) go through what is called a "resting phase" and hair falls out for sometime until hormones get back to normal.

Also clip on extensions and the sort do their share of making the hair weak. With the constatant wear the hair can't take the pull anymore. Especially if the falls and such are heavy.

I would do as you are, think about a nice cut. No colour of course. And let your colour grow in.

To hide the roots, try a cross part, or even get a wide head band they sell now (all colours) they are loose fitting, and wear one, they cover alot of the top part of the head. Some people will go and have just a few lowlights put through some healthier strands. They blend nice, and growth becomes less of a problem.

If you have breakage i would stay away from tight fighting hair ornaments. Use a good shampoo for damaged hair, follow with good conditioner. Heat the conditioner up! Works nice!

A models trick....Sounds strange, but i have done this. Buy a eyeliner pencil that matches your roots, and run it down the growth some, not all the way. You may like it. This stuff stays on hair!

Just baby it, less washing, you need natural oils now, and try the others i have mentioned. I have been there.

Also a skin top light weight wig is nice. I have seen them on many dancers. Skin top lets the hair breath. They do not have to be real hair, no one can tell!

    Good luck,
    CONGRATS!!!!!!! A BABY!!!!!

First, let me say "Congrats!" Kids are the best (I have 2 boys). I can never get over how sweet they are when they're itty bitty.
2nd, about the hair, I agree completely with Leigh. Take care of yourself. Putting yourself first means you are putting your baby first, and that means a healthy baby. Eat right, get lots of sleep and drink LOTS of water. The best way, in my opinion, to figure out what to do about your hair is to keep an eye on your fingernail growth for a few weeks. If your nails are growing in thicker and faster, then your hair will too. (In my last pregnancy my nails were as thick as acrylics and never broke, it was GREAT!) Nails and hair are structured from Keratin, so if your nails are doing good, then your hair usually follows suit. But..... Don't expect this to last past your pregnancy. Many women find that once they give birth they go through a few months of weak, brittle nails and hair. Some women even lose some of their hair. Just be as healthy as you can, and good things will happen .
I just read what Pamela wrote and realized that I am just repeating good advice already given..... goofy me!
Brightest Blessings to you and your little one!

Thanks all! I'm eating good, and I guess the best thing to do is have all the split ends cut off and go from there, gradually trimming till the color is out. I have red hair naturally, and I think I will retire from dancing when I start to show, so I won't need to wear those clip ons anymore. How ironic, I have been dancing 13 years, and always wanted beautiful healthy hair, but had to abuse it too much over the years, maybe retiring will give me the result I always wanted, just no one to show it off for

I agree with Leigh, I'm pretty sure you can henna it. Just do a light henna wash and it will kind of redden the bleached part. Take more henna and streak it so that it looks natural and the roots might not show.
