how do you know you have it? when the doctor diagnosed you, he should have also discused treatment with you. My advice is to go see a chiropractor about it. Dancing has caused my spine to curve and I do therapy as well as chiropractic adjustments, and it is treating it. I'm self pay, so they give me a discount and it's very affordable.
I believe this is something you are born with, and it affects your spine, it tends to be crooked, and hurts at times. Some end up in wheel chairs after years of living wit this disease. It does progress.
I think i have the right one. You can call ask a nurse about it. Or the clinic.

When i had to have epidural done, the doctor tried it 10 times and he couldnt be succesful. At the end he told me I have scoleosis and that was it. I dont really feel that i have it, am just not sittint straight sometimes. Maybe thats what it is. Maybe because when I was younger we didnt have that treatments, or doctors to check on us and I think I missed it. I dont think mine is severe but all I know that my spine is not straight , and i will go on treating it myself.Pamela , maybe i was born with it, hopefully i wont end up in awheel chair thats all i need..oh my!:

If you go to the chiropractor they can do xrays of your back and tell you for sure. Your spine can be curved from other things besides scoleosis(sp?). Years of dancing can cause your spine/hips to become out of place. If you catch it early it can be fixed. If you do have scoleosis, I don't think you can do anything.
Scoliosis is a painful, sometimes, debilitating curvature of the spine. Screening is usually provided in U.S. schools around age 13 for females. Traditional treatment is surgery, particularly, a Harrington rod placement. These Harrington rods are placed on both sides of the spine to straighten any curvatures. Many people report significant reduction of pain following this procedure, however, a great deal of flexibility is lost. Alternatively, you can find a licensed Rolf massage practitioner...It is a form a Swedish massage that straightens/releases muscle and tissue, thus relieving the pain....hope this helps
hey guys, i went to a doctor and i dont have scoleosis I just have spine that has scoleosis type of shape and thats why i was having such a hard time being flexible. Thattttttts why I feel like am stiff around my back i was trying to do sexy moves and lol i felt like a tree. I ve been exercising since then and lot has been improved. I am glad i dont have the real scoleosis because its scary.

Glad to hear it's not a problem.
I lived with a woman who had it for several years. She was into ballet and synchronized swimming, and this kept it from getting worse--in fact I really couldn't tell until I started giving her regular massages--which does indeed help this condition--and I got to know her back pretty well.
One of my favorite dancers would often come to me to rub her back, and I noticed a somewhat curved area which also had some slightly swollen vertebrae. This was from doing pole tricks--she was quite good at them, in fact I called her the Princess of the Pole, among other epithets. Stretching out before doing this would probably help with that, but some people need this more than others.

Hey girl....when I was fifteen I had to have a spinal fusion. I have to surgical steel rods lining the sides of my spine. It took seven hours to do, and a week in the hospital. I was diagnosed when I started to go through puberty. The disease is hereditary usually past on by the mother's side. My case was severe, they told me I need the surgery or I would have died of serious complications by the age of 21. My recommendation is to get a second opinion. Sometimes with less than serious cases the doctor will tell you to do some back exercises or make you wear a brace for awhile. If surgery becomes an issue PLEASE, PLEASE, check in with any and all orthopedic surgeons. The more "ada boys" they have the better off you will be. Don't worry ... it is alot to deal with but I been dancing on and off for five years and I'm still flexible.
Jamies thankkkks!![]()

Very true. You would only get this treatment if absolutely neccessary. One of the major limitations is lack of rotationary motion in your upper torso.Scoliosis is a painful, sometimes, debilitating curvature of the spine.
