Default If you were 30lbs overweight, would you work?

I want to know if you were thirty pounds overweight, would you try to get an audition at a club if you needed a job and quick money right away? (no time for prep)

Anotherwords, say you were not tall and you weighed
150 pounds. However, you look good at 120 or 115; Would you still try and find work as a dancer because it's pretty decent money?

Before I underwent lipo I weighed 150 (I am 5'4"). I had no problem working in clubs and would usually be one of the top girls. Now I am 125-130, and have only noticed a slight increase in income. I think it depends on how your carry your weight and what you wear.

Depends on how you feel about yourself, much of the time you reflect how you are feeling on the inside ON THE OUTSIDE! If the weight makes you feel awkward or shy or self conscious - its going to make a showing in your take home cash.

I know of heavier dancers that do just fine, but they are confident sexual beings, they ooze sex appeal despite the extra pounds. Is that your kind of character?

It also matters how you dress it up - wearing a string slingshot bikini and the strings disappear into folds is NOT attractive, but a open back gown may help dress your extra weight up quite nicely.

Some men really enjoy a curvier girl! Some love them lean and athletic! Understand that the extra weight might put u into a catagory you werent previously accustomed to and you may have a time of it trying to identify your kind of customer or niche in the club.

Your question: Would anyone else dance if you were 30 pounds overweight?

Me? No, I would hit the gym, and especially the cardio equipment. Supplement with some weight training to speed up the process. 10 pounds overweight? Ya, I would. 30? No.

But not to be judgemental inasmuch as I KNOW how I feel shows on the outside, and I WOULD be uncomfortable at that extra weight issue and I know it will reflect on my earnings.

Not to say it cant be done or isnt already being done, cause it certainly is. This one sits with how you feel not anyone else.

    Leigh!

I try to loose some weight and I am not too succesful.

    What is your advice?

I have been eating 500 cal per day and work out for 2 hours day (mostly cardio) with Xenadrine with ephedrine.

I don't think I am seeing much result.

I would like to have your advice.

eating a lot of small things thru the day helps. it keeps your metabolism up. dieting doesn't work for me. and those xenadrines are soooooo bad for ur health. it is basically legalized speed. i think my heart is still fucked up from all the xenadrine i used to take. you should try jus eating a few small meals and snacks a day. i eat about 5 times a day, i jus try not to eat anything too fatty. i was trying to diet, and my weight kept fluctuating but this way, i'm a stable 100 lbs. it works! don't do xenadrine!

    I don't know about 30 lbs, maybe 15 lbs...

But I think being in that environment day in and day out would help you drop the weight at a much faster rate.

I have found it difficult to maintain proper ways of eating
because i share an apartment w/someone who buys food that I try to keep OUT of my diet. I can be in a healthy routine for 2-3 weeks -but- the binges come back, then set me back.

I find it very embarrassing that I was dancing about a year or so ago. I stopped dancing because I was starting to look chubbs. I haven't been able to get the pounds off since! (LOSER!)

I do have a treadmill and use it 5 days a week. But when binges hit- I don't use it until my binge is over.
Bad food binges lasts several days.

I've been talking about getting back to work since Janruary03 but I haven't been able to pull it off!!!

(Singing.."But all she wants to do is dance....dance!")

Interesting question. I have just started dancing after a six week hiatus. Even though I am athletic and I do work out, I have had to cut my work out time do to a work increase in my other career which is in the film industry. As a result, I have gained five lbs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but I am only 5'2" and I felt that one of my best features was my abdominal definition, which is NOT what it was :-/

So, I go back to work today, feeling rather self-conscious and out of practice. I just threw myself out there and went for it. Ironically, I got a lot of positive feedback and made good money for an LA club and I danced my ass off. I noticed that I am somewhat weaker when I was doing pole work.

But, I wouldn't audition because I don't feel comfortable in my body and plus I am slightly weaker from not lifting my own body weight on a regular basis. I would not feel fit and strong enough to be graceful, so that I would be dancing to the best of my ability. I don't feel that I could do that right now.

I know Latin guys like a bit more meat on their women. Usually, they don't really check me out too much, but today, I was getting some smiles and nice words along with the tips. In fact, the janitor, who has never really made all that much conversation with me, who is Latin, tipped me!

I still want the weight off. It is good to be back!

    Cheers,

    Corey

Neptune, maybe if you did go back to work, you wouldn't think about the binging as much and you would cut the weight at the same time.

I was one of only a few dancers today, so I staged danced a lot!! I only had two protein bars in a six hour period!

You have to watch that too! I had a physical before I got married three weeks ago and it turns out that I am anemic. My doctor has me on some power iron pills for a month. So, make sure when you do eat, it is something your body really needs. I was pretty much just eating power bars and apples when I worked. Not good!!!

Take care and shake that booty!

OH my GOD, what I will say is--- 500 calories a day?!!! No wonder you cant lose weight your body is in starvation mode! Meaning you arent gonna lose a pound sister!!

First of all knock that shit off. You simply must know you are NOT doing the right thing, I mean come on now.

Eat breakfast, whole grains, stay away from starchy carbs. Have a shake or smoothie in the am. Take your vitamins, do your work out - up your protein, get some low cal full protein shakes at the health food store or pro shop and make sure your your body is getting enough protein.

Starving is NOT going to get you anything but sick. Your body needs a certain amount of calories a days just to FUNCTION, balance your cab/protein ratio, avoid all the foods YOU KNOW are bad for you.

And if you are binging? You issues arent with weight, they are just manifesting themselves thru food. Something you may want to consider when you grab that bag of cookies or whatever.

I might ADD - that anyone that really wants to do it? Weight loss or management for whatever reasons, health or appearance - will by god do it - this rests on you and your personal commitment and strength. There is no shortcut, no magic cream for fat no magic pill, just your own caliber and integrity towards yourself and your desires to achieve your goals.

The only person that gets screwed over, is you. BY you.
Remember that. It will help give you strength in moments of weakness, that out of all the people in the world to screw you over - YOU are the one doing it. How does that feel?

Bet ya you will put those pills down, or the junk food or cheat food or the 3rd helping.

I wouldnt. Im also short and I feel uncomfortable at 120. When I go up to 125, I look heavy. But thats just my opinion.

I probably wouldnt, depends on where all the weight went... sometimes I get it in my chest...
I'm currently trying to lose 15-20 lbs (starting weight was 135 at 5'4"- mostly in that darn midsection! ). I'm gettin sick of being told that I dont need to by others... it doesnt matter what they think, it's what I think!

I eat!!! it's that simple, pretty much what you call a grazer, but munch on apples, raisinets and have a juicer.
I don't eat meat. But i do lots of cardio, with weights. Thats what works for me.
Don't diet, make a lifestyle change with your eating habits. It works! Really.

PS and believe it or not Raisinets are a good snack! Don't eat the whole box in one setting however.
    Good luck, Pamela

jade honey....500 cals/day is NOT ENOUGH! that is an anorexic diet...thats why you arent seeing much results, because your body is in starvation mode and therefore your metabolism slows down.

the trick to losing weight fast it to eat LOTS of small meals a day...like 5 or 6 300-400 cals a piece. make sure to eat lots of protein and little carbohydrates (but not TOO little or you wont have any energy.) get lots of exercise. if you go more than 6 hours without eating anything, your metabolism slows down and you burn cals and fat MUCH MUCH slower.

as far as would i work if i was 30 lbs overweight...i personally wouldnt, but not because of the weight, because i probably wouldnt be comfortable at that weight, and customers would see that. you must be comfortable in your own skin.

i agree, its all in how you carry your weight and how much sexual prowess you have. i am not skinny like many of the girls at my club..I am 5'6" and 125 lbs...I am curvy and very toned. I would say Im probably 10 lbs more than 90% of the girls at my club. but I carry my weight very well, Im extremely proportionate and I LOVE my body. when you love your body, it shows. and thats damn sexy.

Very good question... confidence is all you NEED to make money while you're loosing the weight. Fake it if you have to. I don't know why, but when I turned 23 my body changed big time. I cant just eat whatever I want without working out now. I gained 15 pounds! I've been working on it and, believe it or not, I've lost 13lbs in 5 days.

I don't starve myself; but I did get drastic about it. My biggest problem was the sodas' I drank way too much. Now I drink only water, lots and lots of it all day. I sip on one slim fast throughout the day, as well as a bite or two of fresh fruit a few times a day. Don't forget multi-vitamin.

I hate working out; but I love weight training. I know I'm suppose to mix cardio in too... I can hear 'ol Coach Rodregez yelling at me

I kept working even after I gained weight, It is hard I'm not going to lie to you; but what made it hard was the lack of confidence. Fake it and you'll be fine.

Remember my diet is not healthy once you've lost the weight. Transition smoothly into more inclusive light meals throughout the day.

p.s. I took a couple pictures just now, I think they're still in the upload section of the gallery; anyway, you can see I still have to loose a bit more. Then it's a balenced diet and longer workouts. [monkeydance]

I am not a skinny mini either. I never eat after 6pm though. Even though I stay up until 3 am most nights. You body burns calories while you sleep, but it won't burn off all of the food you ate at midnight. There's no good way to burn midnight oil, unless you excercise before you go to bed. That is a great metabolism booster! Excercise whenever you get a free moment. Find opportunities to do it, and don't become too preoccupied with food.

A caucasion girl who is one or 2 dress sizes overweight has to find a club where she would be a good draw. A club that has a predominately hispanic or black clientele (obviously a neighborhood club) would be a good bet as long as your are working diligently to lose the weight. The fact that you are white and many of those customers like some meat on the bones would help you out a lot.

Ok I am not sure how to say this without sounding like a bad person so excuse me if I offend someone that is not my main objective here. I don't think that you should be in our business and not your look your best if you weight 30lbs more than another girl who is your same height that doesn't mean that you are over weight . Maybe you have a sexy curvy thing going on, if you feel that you are over weight than no i do not think that you should dance if it might make you do something silly like starving yourself or resorting to plastic surgey ya know. one thing i feel strong about when it comes to judging if someone is overweight is the amount of celliulite and the fact that your stomache should not stick out further than your breast's and i mean that in any direction you want to take that if you got aa's i would say that in no uncertain terms you should have anything but a very flat stomache! You see that happen sometimes with girls who get breast implants they gain weight but anyways if you don't look good don't work in a business baist on looks and i am not saying that you don't look good that is up to you i know plenty of dancers that i think are beautiful and guys just pick apart(they think we're bad)Also there are clubs who advertise the fact that their girls looks are more unconvetional like jumbo's clown room in LA and the kit kat club in CT and guys go there understanding that and that's what they like . Above all remember there is something for everyone just take care of your appearecne and with a good personnality you will be fine ! but i am sure you know that already good luck

Indica...yeah she probably has amazing muscle tone. muscle weighs ALOT more than fat and so many girls dont take that into account.

i have a friend who is my weight and build, she weighs 155 lb and i weigh 125. she looks thinner than me. i kid you not. the girl is ALL MUSCLE.

i'm currently overweight and working..so, i say GO FOR IT..it also changes the perception of beauty by customers and clubowners, and other dancers..all sizes are beautiful, as are all colors..it IS a confidence thing tho, you MUST strut and be confident, and be able to smile when men say things like how they like big girls..since i have just gained my new weight over the past year, i have had to change my costume style and dance style..certain pole moves and floor moves dont look good anymore..and i am taking more classes at the gym so i know i am working on my problem.i think it is more important to be poised and graceful and extra glamourously groomed, think classic pin-up style..GOOD LUCK!!!
