    Default Step exercise question

Do you hold free weights while you are using the step to tone your butt?
Could that damage the knees? or should you just use the step and no weights?

At the Pro health and fitness club i go to once in a blue moon...Bad me. I noticed they have stepping classes. The Newbies always seem to start with light weight ankle weights on. And do many sets but small reps.

Then after a few weeks it seems they are holding free weights, lbs, i am not sure about. But this is cardio, as well as building the glutes and thighs. So they take it slow.

And stepping can be tough on the knees if not done properly, thats why they teach people the proper way to step, back straight, and slow moving at times. They do jump on and off quickly withouit weights however.

It's a matter of learning the proper movement for the body. I think our knees take more of a beating than some know of, i know they do while dancing! Whew.
One more thing, if it does not feel right, it probably is not right.

    Thanks Pam
I am doing also doing squats with 8 pound free weights, so if anything the squats would be more damaging to the knees...but wanted to ask to make sure. My damn butt needs work since there is this pouch of fat on the sides that make the ass look more widened!! I have the step here so i can work on the ass when i want to do a ligher workout than squats.

I started doing squats with 8 pound free weights, but I am curious to know how much weight other girls here are using when working free weights.

I usually use 5 lb ankle weights plus 5 lb dumbbells when doing steps or treadmill. My body loves to bulk up in a hurry, so I have to be careful not to use weights too heavy or I wind up with biceps bigger than the club customers! And God knows that I don't need my pecs to grow any bigger LOL!

I also have a tendency to bulk up also...maybe i should stick with the 8 pound weights and do less reps.

I've got implants 775cc's mentor rounds. (dr studin, long island) I've had them for 4 years. Leftie is not as projected as my right implant.

What exercises are you doing for for chest to stay perky?

I use 8 lb weights with squats and lunges. Great shaping exercise.

You can step with weights just don't flex your legs less than 90 degrees.
