    Default blending tan lines

Now that summer is here, how do I avoid drastic tan lines? I'm not a big fan of tanning beds, and have never used self-tanners. I'm spending a week camping in eastern Oregon, so I know I'll get a tan (yay!), but I'll be with my family, thus negating the option of going about nude to stay even.
can you use self tanner to just blend the lines? how do you pick the right tone? should I have a professional do it?
    thanks so much!

IMO, I just either go for it & have tan lines from a skimpy bikini or tan nude either on my balcony or in the tanning bed. I hate tan lines from shirts or shorts, I have the skin tone where I am in the sun for 15 mins & I have a tan already so I have to watch it.

Have you tried or hear of the Mystic tan system? It costs btwn $20-30 & it takes 28 seconds for a nice tan that last 7-10 days. Hey, I work at a tanning salon part time so I know this stuff... My boss highly recommends it0. In fact, she has what is called Vitiligo (what Micheal Jackson had back in the day) where your skin pigments are missing so it is white... she uses this system & it blends her skin completely & safely, hiding her "spots" and would also hide your tan lines. The store brand self tanners never have worked for me or anyone I know so I avoid them. Plus they stink. There is a good brand out there but it is sold in Hawaii only, however you can order it on Ebay. I am not sure what it is called, something along the lines of Maui brown or Maui tan. I know it is in a brown bottle that looks like an acrylic paint container with a white top. My mom has it & swears by it.

I've known girls who actually "paint in" the tan lines with self-tanner then after a few hours do a whole body coat. I never thought it looked bad and it looked just fine under the club lights. It does seem like a pain, though.

I would just try and even out to bikini swimsuit lines (since you're with the family ) and go with it. Then at least they'd be sexy tanlines as opposed to, say, bike shorts and a racerback, lol! (Seen that at my club... once. Ugh!)

... And I have to plug for the Bath & Body works self-tanner as the only store brand that seems to work for everyone I know who's tried it. Smells good too. Only caveat is that it might be a little light on some skin tones.

like veronika said, you can do it with self tanner but its a real pain in the ass. waiting for it to dry, waiting to be able to shower and then having it rub off all over your clothes...then it only lasts a couple days after all this.

i say just wear the tan lines. it feels awkward but i think a lot of guys find it rather sexy. i just do the tanning bed thing, myself.

I have tried the Mystic Tan 2 times in the last week and it does not seem to get my skin as dark as some of the self tanners that I have used. Any advice?

PS - I am also not a fan of those tanning beds.

    Sara,

I have really sensitive skin that will breakout easily. Any idea if the Mystic Tan spray is oil-free? I've really wanted to try it but was apprehensive about my unruly skin. Thanks!

Which strength have you been using? When I first started getting Mystic Tan I started on level 1. It gave me a light tan, similar to many light self tanners. After 4 sessions I progressed to level 2, where I've been for the past few months. Level 2 got me darker, about the color of any deep self-tanner. Just this week I did level 3 and I am darker than I've ever been in my life.

Oil can actually remove your Mystic Tan early, so I don't think it has oil in it.

Sara - I did not know that they have different tan levels available for the Mystic Tan. I wonder why no one at the salon told me about this? I just went to the store today to get my old stand by self tanner. I'll go back to my salon and check out the level 3 or 4. I am also definately going to complain about the lack of information given to the customers. That is just bad business on their part. Thanks for the information.

By the way, if oil removes the Mystic Tan; what do you do for moisterizer?

just make sure you use an oil-free moisturizer. neutrogena has a few of them that are really nice.

You have to build up to level three: at least two sessions each at the other levels first.

At the tanning salon they sell a moisurizer that doesn't remove the tan. Just so that you know, hotel soap instantly removes the tan much quicker than baby oil). I recently found this out and wasted my very dark Mystic Tan that took 3 sessions to create.

I would not want to waste my money again on the level 1 or 2 just to get up to level 3. I might just go back in this week and check out the level 3 spray.

How much money does their moisterizer cost? I just bought Gentle Cleansing Wash by Purpose and Oil Free Moisterizer by Neutragena. Both products are oil free and cost less than $10. (of course they don't come in bulk amounts though) If you look at the ingredients in most soaps and moisterizers, almost all of them contain some sort of oil.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

As I said, you do need to build up to level 3. Recently I needed an instant tan for a photoshoot (after the hotel soap washed off my tan ) so I went in for a level 3 tan--it didn't do much because I didn't have a base. Don't get me wrong, it did add color, but I didn't have the dark tan that I did after building up a few sessions.

    Sara,

Where did you get the info about the oil? Does the level three make you orange or anything? They told me that it would do that to me...

livenudegirls, my understanding is that the levels have to do with the proportion of tanning stuff to other stuff that's sprayed on you. They didn't explain it to me either until I bitched, but the way they explained it is that a 90 pound person will get a good tan from a level one, where a 150 pound person will be light with a one and needs a two. They told me that level three is only for huge people and that if you aren't huge it will turn you orange. But maybe they were lying to me?

I am 5'5" and weigh 115 pounds, and I just did a level 3 a couple of days ago. I like it way better. I don't think that it makes me look orange at all.
Next week I'm going to try a level 4. I asked the lady if it was a different mixture or more concentrated. She told me that the machine just sprays the person up and down a couple of extra times. This time I didn't pat off the excess like they say that you are supposed to do in the video. I just let it air dry for a few minutes and just barely patted down any areas that were seriously running.
Also, on top of using the oil free soap and lotion, I started buying the super basic razors without the "moisterizing strip". It has all made a big difference in the staying power of my tan.

I've heard there are these places you can go that will custom spray paint a tan on you. It's pretty expensive probably over $30. and only lasts about a week. Sorry I don't have the name or link.
