as a result of weightlifting, I have callouses so bad on my hands that even with gloves I can barely grip anything in the gym-is there a trick to treating them?

guess who's back? back again

i get rough patches on my hands sometimes too, dont know why, maybe its the pole or something. but what works for me is getting loose pumice...and scrubbing it on the hands (not too hard of course). then slather those paws in vaseline and put mittens or gloves on overnite.![]()
I like Eucerin Cream.
Also when not working, drug stores sell callouse patches with a small degree of medication to help them shed off faster. Or plain ones to cushion the callouse, so you won't further make them worse.
Good luck,

Gloves seemed like the obvious answer but from your post I gather you b/c well calloused b/4 gloves entered the picture. This may sound weird but when I was lifting daily and my hands started to callous badly, b/c I hate to wear the gloves my entire workout, I would soak them once a week in skin softening foot stuff. After soaking I would use a callous remover, the pedicure kind, to remove the really bad ones, use a pumice stone and then rinse and use moistourizing cream. Its a pedicure for the hands.
My doc said she saw no major problem with it and my callouses looked like some people's feet when I was at my best level of lifting. She did give the standard be careful blah blah, but seriously unless you are diabetic or have circulation problems it shouldn't be a big deal. This is only for severe callousing though which it sounds like you may have and it did really well for me and others. Since I workout in the football weight room, you know b/c at colleges the boys always have the best equipment, some of the football players caught on to it b/c girls were complaining about the roughtness of their hands and they really didn't know what to do either.

Prevent them. Use a glove when you're working out.
