    Default haircolor messup

Hey girls, I have a bit of a problem.

Yesterday I decided to color my hair because I had some roots from where it was bleached out from the sun.
My real color is a dark chocolate/black coffee color and the bleached part was a rusty medium brown.

So I go to the store and pick up a clariol shade called expresso, and the color on the box was the color I wanted. But when I put it in my hair it was jet black.
I look like a goth kid gone wrong, or christina A. :o

I want to dye over it but I don't think a lighter color will show up over the black. Any advice?

Get thee to a colorist now!
First, they will do a diagnostic test on your hair to see if it is healthy enough to endure a stripping process. Bleach can't really lift black color. Especially if it's been pre-color treated. A Semi-permanent rinse might be your best option, along with a good cut. It's a bad idea to lift more than 2 levels of haircolor outside of the salon. Hair is so volatile. Some things you don't try at home.

If its been done within the last three days you can buy a box of hair color remover at Sally's and try that. It doesn't really remove the color but b/c most of the pigment has not settled yet it helps to remove the depth of the shade. IE: It won't take all the color away, but it won't look as dark. I've had to use this stuff to get a blue based honey brown out of my hair when it was blonde and it worked pretty well. Hell I guess anything was better cuz when I started with the remover my hair was a lovely vibrant shade akin to smurf blue. When I got done it was kinda yellowy again.
Try this and when you get done you will probably still hit a salon but it will look better in the mean time. Also, if all else fails go buy a couple of bottles of tressemme shampoo, the regular kind thats the funny color blue/green, that stuff will strip the color out so fast. It is one of the most colorstripping shampoos on the market. Good Luck.

Oh lydia been there. You need to have the colour pulled out.

Bleaching over it is do-able, but major damage, and a blue tint may occur.

Yes, go see a pro. on this one.

The ladies are right. My friend does hair and she would most certainly reccomend going to the salon. It can be very dicey doing it on your own.I once dyed my hair black and the beautician at a great salon got it out in "steps".That's your best bet.Box colors aren't always right.(I don't mean to sound like Forrest Gump but....),...You never know what you're gonna get.

Yes, salon care is in order, lol! I had the dark espresso color that over repeated dyings (retouching roots as I am a med. brown) the color layered and layered until I was way darker than i intenede over time, I went for a consult first and they do have a method that does not incoporate bleach but lightens the deposit up a couple shades, and should be handled by a professional. i spent 4 hours in the salon, and $400, but that was cut color and streaks and tips too...it was a pretty penny but SAVED my hair from certain death due to home products.

As paranoid as I was I looked up on the internet for the best colorist in Toronto - turns out the dude I found was the COLORIST OF THE YEAR! Good score!!

Hair is so integral to our appearance and unlike some other things we can scrimp on - this one takes priority - sure hair grows back but think of the time its taken you to get whatever length you have now - do you want to risk it? I didnt.

consults are free....just pop in a decent salon a reputed salon, (no 'cut 6' or others like em) and see what they have to say!

i agree, leave this to a pro. do NOT attempt to fix it with another haircolour or anything.

BUT...for a quick, slightly helpful fix, wash your hair a few times in a row with dishwashing detergent. it tends to fade colour pretty damn fast, and take the immediate drastic-ness out a little. just be sure to SUPER moisturize your hair after, because dish detergent strips hair of all moisture.

*Whew* went to the salon today, and got everything fixed.
She put in something to strip the color out (which turned my hair bright red at first :o). Then she put in a blue based toner and dyed over that, it looks normal but my hair is going to look so fried after about a week.
Its time for some major deep conditioning!

LOL! YUP thats the stuff! Mine went red too - its a certain stage in the lightening process - all brunettes pass thru a red stage, anyway thats the product - not strong enough to bleach but pulls the shade up a few bars!

So glad you went to the salon....

There are some new products well fairly new, that are really good, I bought them b4 leaving the salon to care for my stressed hair...beleive it or not L'Oreal has SALON products - not drug store L'oreal but professional grade...and this stuff is very good...

And of course thats what its called: L'Oreal Professionnel - the intense repair (yellow bottle) nourishing shampoo - super gentle, creamy and smells like you could eat it!
and the intense nutrition mask for hair...in a yellow jar, just wicked. And once a week the Power Color care spray in the metalic spray bottle...red label...its for "very sensitized colred hair"....spray in rinse out.
VERY GOOD PRODUCTS, and I am one to not buy into a whole lotta hype on products especially if they are uber expensive as a result of hype but I gotta give credit where due....this stuff is sweet.

Happy for you and that you saved your hair! WOOO HOOO!!

I am so glad you took everyones advise and visited a professional! The first mistake everyone makes when deciding to "try out" a color is buy a box at the drug store. Problem being they don't take into consideration the color of the hair they have at the moment... another words what they are going to cover over with the dye. They look at the box and think man I like that color and go for it. unofrtunately at home we do not mix all of the tints in the dye that the salon does. There is a definte art to that mixing thing!!

I am glad all turned out well best of luck!

go to the salon and let them a corrective coloring process on it. If you keep adding chemicals to you hair it will fall out. YOu dont want that to happen. My sister is my stylist and I KNOW about hair falling out.!!
