    Default What do you eat when you're at work?

    A couple of the clubs I work at require dancers to work 8 or 10 hour shifts. If I only had to work 4 or 6 hours I could go my whole shift without eating at all, but I can't go 8 or more hours without eating. I'm trying to eat healthier at work but I need some ideas of what kind of stuff I should eat. Most of the other girls order pizza, Chinese food, and other unhealthy types of food, and that's what I've been doing too, but I really want to start eating better. It kinda sucks because we're not allowed to leave the club during work to go pick up something to eat, and there's no microwave or fridge at work either.
    I've been bringing pretzels, fruit, and crackers to work, but do you have any other suggestions on what I can eat while I'm working? Thanks in advance.

    You can aways pick up one of those little insulated bags, and freeze two 500ml bottles of water to put inside to keep anything you may need to keep cold inside. That opens up the floor to all sorts of foods! Cubed cheese, cold cuts, make some carrot celery and cucumber sticks with a little container of dip/dressing.
    You can always bring a mini kettle to work too - you do have access to water right? Then you can have some Instant noodles, or soups too.

    Hope this helps,

    For delivery in our area, we have Mr. Goodsense ( sub's ) and various other's. I stock quite a few snack food's at the bar like 100% fruit snack's, trail mix, chip's and party mixes, meat stix's, ect. basically a variety of both high calorie crap and heath food. I get stuff the girl's request so there are plenty on hand. I also keep a runner around to help out at the club and get particular food order's for my girl's when nothing else will do. It's not hard to get one of the useless hangout's that all club's have to make a quick food run, hell to the grocery store for that matter. Every club's got one too, the bartender's friend or the Dj's friend or the manager's friend, hell they aint doin nuthin and they don't usually create any real income for the club or the girl's ...... make them useful.

    I was wondering why you don't at least have a small fridge. That will save alot of time and effort.
    Just put your name on it. Every club i worked at had one, and if we did not have our names on our food and drinks it got tossed by the house mom at the end of every closing. Also for an 8 hour shift there are small coolers that will keep anything.
    Hoping theft is not a problem in your club of course.

    make a whey protein shake at home with a banana mixed in, put it in a bottle and take an ice pack and an insulated bag with you-then when you have 2 minutes, drink it-also take chicken breasts in tupperware

    I keep meal replacement bars in my locker. They are suprisingly satisfying! I hate prepareing food and bringing containers back and forth and I'm not always sure if I want it or if the housemom is going to have something I want instead.

    Do you have a ThermoContainer? If so, why not make some soup at home and bring the Thermo into work.

    Even tho' I'm doing 9-10 hr shifts when I'm at work (7.30pm until 5am)... my club has provided us with a fridge, microwave and hot water (plus free tea, coffee and milo).

    I generally try and have something before I go to work that will burn off slowly so that I won't get hungry until near the end of the shift. Then when I do get hunger pains... I play a trick on my body and have water, milo or lemonade.

    If you do want to bring food to work: try bringing healthy bars, dried fruits, soup (in a Thermo), etc in if you want?

    If you invest in a good ThermoContainer then you can also have the option of bringing in cold Milo to work and not have it go off whilst you are there too.

    If I do have "take out" then I stick to Subway :-)

    I hate eating at work. Most of the girls get styrofoam containers of crap food and snarf it down in the booths, it looks SO unsexy.
    I usually drink lots of cold things or bring a sandwich with me...something simple and high-energy that I know won't make me queasy, like PB & J. Also, if you can, have some fun with it! When it's slow I send the runner out for a small bin of strawberries and sit at the bar sensuously nibbling on them....it's been known to get me a drink or two

    I like bags of trail mix and fig newtons. They keep well in my bag and I just grab a handful when ever I change outfits... about once an hour. I find that drinking a lot of water also helps. If you find that you are getting continously achey muscles, particullarly in your legs, then you may not be eating enough during your shift. I like to eat continuosly, but small amouts, instead of a sit down meal because I feel like my stomach pokes out and I get tired. Also I don't know how long you are on your feet during a shift but I danced for 9 to 10 hours at a club I used to work at and I highly recomend Tony Shoes for long term wearing.

    I like Harvest Bars by Power Bar. They are tasty, filling, and low fat. I also take instant soup by fantastic foods, which is low fat and ususally has protein and iron. I use the hot water from the bar, so I don't need a microwave.

    i have been on a diet of strictly fruit. humans were designed to eat fuit, period. meat and dairy products ARE NOT designed to be in our bodies. There ie EVERYTHING the body needs in fruit. After eating fruit for a month i have had more energy than ever imaginable, noticed i have better vision, and my skin looks so much better its amazing.

    you can easily pack a bag of fresh fruit and bring it to work. it will give you energy throughout the night and its easy and nothing to prepare. you will also be doing a great benifit to your body, and will lose any unnatural fat from your body.

    mangos are great for protien, as well as bananas. I have read books on individuals who have been eating only fresh fruit for 20 years and they are among the healthiest people in the world.

    Avoid all the foods you mentioned above because all they do is pollute you body with chlosteral (which fruit has none) chemicals, antibiotics (in meat) pesticides, growth hormones, saturated fat, and all kinds of other pollutants.

    Try the fruit diet, you will love it !

    Good Luck !

    from www.thefruitpages

    Health:
    Why fruit?
    Sugar
    Health food
    Unhealthy food
    Guava
    Olive oil

    Eat (more) fruit
    These ideas might stimulate your fruit consumption!
    Why should we have five to nine fresh pieces a day, organically grown if possible?
    For the largest part fruit consists of water just like the human body does;
    Fruit is 100% bad-cholesterol free;
    Fruit stimulates the memory;
    The idea that fruit is an expensive nutrition;
    The miraculous healing effects of fruit;
    Fibers;
    Fruit makes you feel better;
    Ethical reasons to eat fruit;
    Fruit is the most natural food;
    The human diet;
    Fruit juices - squeeze those fruits!
    For the largest part fruit consists of water just like the human body does
    Like 80% of our body is water so does 80% of fruit consist of water!
    If you think about it, it's logical for the human body to consume food that contains as much water as the body itself. The nutrition that meets that requirement is fruit. There is no other food than fruit on this planet that contains on average 80% water.
    Vegetables also contain a lot of water and are therefore second best.

    Fruit is 100% bad-cholesterol free
    No doubt about this argument. Too much bad-cholesterol is not good for our bodies and fruit doesn't contain bad-cholesterol. Animal products like meat and dairy contain a lot of bad-cholesterol.

    Fruit stimulates the memory
    If you didn’t know yet: fruit is the ultimate brain fuel. Fruit has a positive effect on our brains. The way this works still has to be found out and many scientists are looking into it as we speak. What we do know is that if you consume fruit effectively, your brains can recall information faster and more easily. This is very useful information for people who are preparing for an exam. Students that want to go to this page immediately go to: improve your exam results with fruit.

    The idea that fruit is an expensive nutrition
    Did you always think that fruit was an expensive product? Take a good look at how much money you spend on other food. It could be worth something to replace some of those expenses with fruit. We think that fruit is the healthiest food on earth and therefore it is well worth spending our money on.

    The miraculous healing effects of fruit
    Spectacular stories about people that cured from uncurable diseases by a strict diet of raw fruits and/or vegetables are well known but do we want to believe them? We still don't know that much about fruit and its contents.

    Fibers
    We do know now that a diet with plenty of fibers helps against corpulence, high blood pressure, and other factors that increase the chance for a heart disease. The consumed amount of fibers maybe even a more important factor than the amount of fat that is consumed by people!
    The food that contains these healthy (natural) fibers is.... right: fruit! (vegetables as well). The American Heart Association advises to consume 25 to 30 grams of fibers out of fresh fruits and/or vegetables. In practice this means: have five to nine portions of fresh fruits or vegetables a day. Check out the dietary Recommendations of the American Heart Association here.

    Fruit makes you feel better
    Several stories have told us about people that were frequently depressed and how they got out of their depression slowly but surely after consuming substantial amounts of fresh fruit on a regular basis. Eating much fruit can have a mysterious healing effect on human beings. Even better is to drink a lot of freshly squeezed fruit drinks on a regular basis. It will take approximately 30 days until you start to notice the effects. Don't forget to drink these smoothies 20 minutes before the consumption of other meals. This way the fruit will not ferment in the stomach and the nutritious elements can be absorbed by the blood effectively.

    Ethical reasons to eat fruit
    Fruit doesn't have to be killed and slaughtered before you can eat it. The fruits are just hanging there waiting to be picked by you!
    This ethical argument (often used by vegetarians and vegans to not eat meat) claims that fruit is a non-animal food. Many people see animals, especially mammals, as living creatures just like humans. There are religions that say that animals have souls like us. The native Americans first asked the animal's spirit if they could kill it before they did so. Fruit has never been said to have a soul and thus can be eaten without causing any harm. Ethical or religious arguments aside, we think it's a shame that we as human beings don't eat much fruit when there is such an abundant assortment of fruits and vegetables available.

    Fruit is the most natural food
    When you see a piece of fruit hanging from a tree that tree is telling you something: "Eat my fruits and help me spread my seeds." That’s how nature works. Humans eat vegetables and fruits and consequently help the plants to spread. Humans use animals to work the land to grow the plants and trees that produce these fruits and vegetables. In more and more people's opinion this is the way it was all meant to be.

    A human diet
    A healthy diet should consist for a great deal of freshly squeezed fruit juices, raw fruits and vegetables. Some tips:

    A good start is to eat and drink more fresh fruits;
    it’s as simple as that. Before you know it you will feel much better;
    Don't forget to eat fruit on an empty stomach, not after other meals and;
    inform yourself about the substances that our 'modern' food contains.

    LOL I was a fruitarian for a little while back in my.. err.. more interesting days. Fruit and nuts, you know, only the things that fell from the branches and gave themselves, none of that violent ripping vegetables up by the roots.

    I have to say that I was healthy and I did lose some weight (not muscle). Hmmm....

    thanks for the web reference Ryan. I've been thinking of making the fruitarian step for a long time. Seems right to me, no vegies cause even vegies is stealing the plants stored energy, only what the plant willingly gives...fruit.

    However did you get the idea that humans aren't supposed to eat meat or dairy? Haven't we been doing it for millennia? Sounds like just another fad diet. I'm a sceptic and believe in science. The stuff you posted from the Fruit Pages is just anecdotal, hearsay. If you want a reason to go vegetarian, read Fast Food Nation.
    dairy is a bad idea because alot of people are lactose intolerant and dairy causes water retention which makes you look worse than you would otherwise

    justy because people have been eating cooked food for a long time doesnt mean its the right thing to do. and no this is not a fad diet this is natures diet.

    be a skeptical as you want and keep stuffing your face with greasy , chlorestal laden, nutrition free, dead carcasses.

    when you develop a degenerative disease (which you will ) fruit will be waiting to cure you and detoxify your body.

    people have been smoking tobacco for a long time too, does that mean that it is the right thing to do ?

    dont talk shit about something when you have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

    and thank you to the people that appreciated the information i provided.

    and i am not "going vegetarian"

    im not saying just animal products are not designed fo humans, i am saying ANY cooked food is a dangerous thing to put into your body.

    once food is cooked above 118 degrees farenheit, the enzymes die and the cells start to mutate. also the food is severely dehydrated which is why you get so thirsty after eating cooked food. This does not happen with fruits and vegetables.

    a fruit has 5 percent protien
    a fruit has 80 percent water
    a friut has the ideal amount of vitamens and minerals
    a fruit will keep you at your ideal weight
    a friut has 3.5 percent salt

    these are all the things the body needs in the exact amounts needed.

    can you tell me another food that does that , i would LOVE to know

    there are some books that have great recipies for making uncooked meals and these meals are delicious and good for your body.

    the best one ive seen is called RAW, which can be bought from amazon.com and barnes and noble.

    anybody who decides to go RAW is doing a great hing for their body, and for the environment.

    Okay, well back to the question about what I eat at work: Campbell's soup at hand is really good. I also bring in regular soup sometimes. Strawberries and blackberries are another weekness. I am a broccoli and asparagus freak so I often do steam it at home and bring it in. I have a huge tupperware collection in my locker b/c of this. Nature Valley Trail Mix bars with fruit and nuts, but no peanuts, are really great as well as bringing in pedialyte to drink. I work out hard on stage, especially so on the weekend, so the pedialyte helps makeup for all the sweating and exertion.
    On the weekend, I usually sit down and eat at my fav mexican place with the boy b/4 work and then take a shrimp appetizer to work with me to snack on throughout the nite. It comes in an order of four or eight so depending on how hungry I think I'll be I place my order and nibble on about one every hour or so after 12am.
