Default Choosing a Time/Place for Surgery

I live in Massachusetts. I searched up this list of surgeons: (just type in Massachusetts) but there are so many surgeons that I don't know where to begin!
I was also thinking about or Can you take a look at those real quick?
Does anyone know how to choose a surgeon?
What about prices -I know a lot of people go to other places like Mexico or Costa Rica or even places int he US that are less expensive. Does anyone know about this?
Also, I'm wondering how long the whole process takes from first consultation - healing period.
    Thanks for your help

I can say one thing when it comes to surgeons, Credentials...Board Certified. Although That is not enough, experience...How many Procedures has this doc. performed greatly!
Also in your state, there is a number you can get to check the doc. out. Complaints, etc. See what hospital the doc. has privileges at, then ask for information (usually a telephone number, maybe toll-free) to check him/her out.
    Good luck,

If you are a dancer it helps to ask who they have been to if you like the way theirs look, then make an appointment w/like 3 or 4 of them for consultations, price varies from region to region, usually they range from 3,500-7 or 8000,Iwould not advise going to another country I can tell you there was a surgeon in my area that cant practice in this state anymore so he went out of the country, because their regulations are different.good luck.

Would it be worth it to travel to a less expensive area of the country?
Has anyone checked out this site: ? What do you think?
Pamela -where can I find that number?

there are instant discounts available across the Canadian border, with surgery done by fully credentialed doctors. The northeast in general has plastic surgery prices which are 20% higher than the US average, and Canadian surgeries are 20% less expensive than the US average! I'd definitely give Montreal doctors a shot (4 hour drive ?).

Hey, Loki. I'm from Mass, as well. You can go check out the credentials and whatnot of any doctor at www.massmedboard.org. If you click on "Physician Profile" on the main page, you can enter a search for a specific doctor or search for a doctor by town and specialty area.

Out of curiosity, I checked out Dr. LoVerme's profile myself and, according to all the info provided, he seems like a great choice. The profile lists what experience they had and where, any complaints/convictions against them, etc. He has many accolades in his name, as well, including holding the position as president of the Mass. Society of Plastic Surgeons from '97 to '99. It seems it would definitely be worth it to look into him further - perhaps, set up a consultation with him. I've yet to get any surgery done myself so I can't provide any help in regaards to how the whole process goes. Best of luck, though!!

Loki, start with calling the largest hospital in your area. Hospitals give you numbers to check out a docs. credentials.

If you have no luck, let me know...
I can find the number for you from the hospital i work at for a Mass. directory.

I also meant to note another thing about the link I provided. It's the official page for the Mass Medical Board. Their address and phone number are posted within the site The scroll across the top of the main page. I just checked on the number for you and it's 617-654-9800. If you wished to speak with someone regarding a specific doctor and their credentials, as Pamela suggested, you should do so using this number. However, basically all of their services are provided via the web now (doctor check, reporting a complaint, etc.). I assume they will only be able to provide the same info they provide via their website, so it may not be worth it to make the extra call. But you do have that option, should you choose to do so.

just one small note to keep in the back of your head when researching plastic surgeons. Membership in ASPRS, being "board certified" etc. may sound impressive, but in actuality all they indicate is that the doctor has taken the time (and paid the money) to join a certain "fraternity". They do not guarantee that the plastic surgeon has any greater medical skills, and in particular they don't guarantee that the doctor knows how to make great looking "dancer's boobs". What they do guarantee, however, is a higher surgeon's fee!

    Default More on Lipo

Well, I called and the first appointment they had for a consultation was August 19. Is that an average amount of time? I don't want to rush things - but I wish it could be sooner because I live in Ma with my family for the summer and move back to Florida in Late August. That's probably not enough time to fit in the surgery +especially not the recovery. I'd sort of rather do it in Ma because then I would have my family to take care of me, and wouldn't NEED to tell all my friends that I had lipo (i think that's kind of personal).
So should I start calling other doctors, have the surgery in Florida, or come back up for the surgery here?
I'd like to do this as soon as I can, but also have a great surgeon, and try to keep it cost efficient.

One of the receptionists I called was rude. It put me off quite a bit..is that a bad reason to not want a consultation?
It is July 7 though...that's a lot better.

    Try this site www.allaboutplasticsurgery.com
Theres a message board where you can talk to other women in your area who have had personal experience with the surgeons. Everyone there is very nice and helpful.

you also should keep in mind that there are certain plastic surgeons who seem to cater to upscale housewives. These doctors do conservative implant sizes, they dislike doing multiple procedures at the same time, they have long 'lead times', they charge a lot, and subconsciously at least these doctors and their staffs are often rude to dancers (I guess on the assumption that dancers don't "fit in" with the social standing of their typical patients). This phenomenon also seems to be more prevalent in the northeast and on the west coast. I guarantee you that having surgery in Florida after you move back will be less expensive, you'll get much less argument from the doctor about getting "dancer sized" implants the first time (versus the conservative MA doctors trying to hit you up for two surgeries to get to the same size at twice the price), and I would speculate that it will be less traumatic as well in regard to 'snob' treatment that you seem to be receiving in MA. Another important factor to consider is that once you've moved back to Florida it will be very difficult for you to return to a MA doctor for 3 month checkups.
