    Default Solarium Virgin

It is now winter time here where I am and whilst we have sun most of the time... it isn't all of the time nor is it the ideal conditions to sun bathe (too windy, a little bit nippy, etc)....

So I decided to take the plunge (finally) and have my first solarium session. :o

The solarium I'm using once a week (I want some colour not a full on tan besides my skin darkens nicely easily) is a lie down bed one. (I'm not tanning my face and neck - I put a shirt over that and I'm doing it topless only as I want a bottom bikini tan)

Here's my question... with this type of bed there are usually tell tale parts of the body that doesn't get the proper exposure... ??? I would love it for someone to give me some tips etc on how to make sure that these tricky spots can also be done ???

I get a white spot right above my tail bone. I usually do a stand up every so often. I can feel the pressure there against the tanning bed, so I swith positions slightly by bending a leg or shifting my weight to take the pressure off because I think this is what cause the spots. Other than that, I'm pretty even. Is there a particular area you are having trouble with?

My next question centers around what I should put on my skin before and after using the tanning bed.

I've been putting sunscreen/block (SPF 30+) that also includes a moisturiser in it on before I use the tanning bed..... I've been told to not do this? I've been using the sunscreen/block because of habit... even when I used the sun I did so. I thought that because I'm exposing myself to UV... that it would be a good move (besides how it moisturises my skin).

Do I or Don't I use sunscreen? If not, then what else do I use?

    :-) TIA

hey v u r at the gold coast right?

i'm in brissie and i go to this place on elizabeth street. they r great!!!

i totally recommend the standup solarium. for one its an all over tan. it doesn't miss bits like the lay down.
and more importantly its more HYGENIC!!!! think about it. i know you get a little spray bottle of antiseptic but since your going to be laying down in its residue they can't use one strong enough to kill all the bacteria! i know i am more paranoid than most about these things but i've done a few microbiology subjects at uni now and u would be amazed at just how little some antiseptics actually do!

anyway this place i go to recommend a kind of moisturiser before you go in. i'm not quite sure how it works but its meant to make u tan more easily. not sure what its called either they sell it at the place i go to.
I don't think u r meant to use sunblock though.

I like the lie-down because I've only just started and want to get my body used to the whole Solarium thing BEFORE I go to a more powerful stand up (as they are generally more powerful) one.

Besides... what about underneath your crotch.. doesn't that get missed if you're standing up? I'm having results with lie down so it is okay for me right now.

??? Are you able to find out what type of moisturiser they use? Can I use any old moisturiser or would aloe vera ones be better for me?? ??? ???

I recommend that you check out the Australian Gold products that are ment for solarium tanning. they have tanning accelerators..calming after-sun stuff..stuff to keep the tan longer..etc etc. and everything smells HEAVENLY.
to me knowledge you are not supposed to use any sun screen in a tanning-bed. so make sure you don't burn!!!!
depending on what type of skin you have...start out with 5-10 minutes the first time..and then mayve 12-15 and then 20.

Thanks for the referral (Australian Gold) however it is a USA based company. I'm Australian.. and need something I can buy locally.

Is there any other products that have a more international appeal that I can use? ???

??? ??? What if I added Vitamin E cream as well as just other skin moisturiser products after I tan... ???

If you use a sunscreen, you will be negating the effect of the tanning rays. Tanning lotions are readily available here, hundreds of brands. Regular moisturizer would be better than nothing though. Just be careful because some products contain photosensitizing agents which can make you burn. Like a moisturizer with retinol would make you ultra sensitive. At my salon, they have lists up of photosensitizing ingrediets.
