    Default Deep conditioners?

Does anyone have a favorite? I'm not familiar with any of the brands and would love some help... I have color treated hair so my hair needs the tlc.

I've gone to the salon before for the deep conditioning treatment they offer but when they wash or rinse my hair they pull hairs out. Hate that.

I love anything Loreal!!! These products are made for bleached/colour treated hair. They have a toll free for questions you may have.
My hair is very long, and very blonde.
For deep conditioning, any Loreal product will work. (conditioner).
Just heat it up in a pan on the stove until it feels warm. Apply to damp hair, and wrap with a damp towel. This will hold the heat in and give you a deeper penetrate for your hair shafts!
It works. Now and again, i also play around and add a few drops of Olive oil to the heated conditioner! Feels fantastic, silky. May take a few times when you wash your hair to really get it feeling great.
And you know whats really good for you hair, when it had dried. Rub a basic hand lotion (light touch) through thre middle part to the ends of your hair. Hand lotion is a trick hair artists use. Not leave in conditioners.
Hand lotion works better, will not harm the hair. I use plain old St. Ives, extreme relief intensive healing body lotion. It's unscented, and hypo-allergenic! Just a dime size does shoulder length hair.
My hair is past my ass, i use about a half dollar size in my hand, and gently rub it through. Pamela

I always found JOICO products absolutely amazing.

Especially the K-Pak. Especially for blondes, and especially if there is any damage or stress from coloring blowdrying hot lights etc!
When I was blonde it was all I used.

A friend of mine also tipped me that one does not always need to wash your hair with shampoo either - she actually only shampoo once a week and the other times she would wet her hair in the shower (never too hot - lukewarm is best especially if color stressed) and massage her hair thoroughly - distributing her own natural oils thru her hair lengths, then rinse, and repeat. Always conditioning her ends at the end.

This really stimulated growth and minimized breakage and was an amazing tip that I found REALLY worked! Even though at first I was like; YOU DONT WASH IT WITH SHAMPOO??? But I gave it a go was amazed and continue to pass the tip on to whoever says - my hair wont grow or my hair keeps splitting, and they all marvelled at this little trick too!

Also depending on HOW damaged your hair might be - sleeping with the conditioner in your hair over night and rinsing it in the morning is another hair preserving trick.

Stay away from rubber bands always use cloth covered ones...harsh breakage!

Wear a hat - saves you from sun damage.

Ah if men only knew the trouble we go thru to preserve beauty wow! LOL!

OH WAIT - Joico is usually found at salons forgot to mention that.

    Hi Brandi,
I have a SERIOUS problem with conditioners. It's very hard for me to find a conditioner that moisturizes my hair properly. But I found out that avocado works wonderfully for my hair.
Once a week, I smash a piece of avocado, strain it, mix with two spoons of conditioner and apply it to my hair. Of course, you have to wash your hair first and dry (not completely). I leave it for 1/2 an hour and then rinse it. I comb my hair while I rinse it to make sure that I removed everything.
If you know a Brazilian store close to you, you could try a conditioner made of "manteiga de karite" (sorry, I have no idea how to translate this!). That is the only conditioner that works for my hair. And I've been trying different conditioners for the past 21 years of my life !
    LOL, but it's true.
Loreal is good too. I used it a lot in the past, but the "manteiga de karite" thing is cheaper and works better for me.
    Good luck!

Wow, thanks for the tips guys, I'm excited, I'm going to Sally's and Ulta to see which of these items I can find there.

Pretty thrifty using avocado and hand lotion, I've never heard of using such things, i'm gonna have to give these a try too. Will avocado stain the shower curtain?

I use frizz-ease #5 on my hair it's cheap and works better than the expensive stuff. I've tried the other frizz-ease products and they weren't nearly as impressive. It's for fly a ways and gives you more of a sleek look. This is the only hair product I use consistently.

as Leigh stated, Joico works good. I'm also a big fan of L'anza (the curls and color line). The L'anza leave in treatment is amazing. These are both salon products and you will not find them at Sally's. Your hairdresser probably does not want you putting drugstore products into your color treated hair. (although I bet the avocado works great! I love olive oil myself)

Superstripper - OH YA!! L'Anza IS great! Used their line as well, and thought they were pretty good!

    That avacado does sound like a hell ova thing, only stands to reason it is a very high in natural fat/oil;

A medium-sized avocado contains 30 grams of fat

So that only stands to reason it would be a wonderfully rich conditioner for your hair!!!

    Awesome tip Mariana!!!

    Thx Leigh!

Brandi, it won't stain the shower curtain, it's actually easy to take off, just like conditioner.

Aveda's Cherry Almond Bark deep conditioner is great stuff.
Best way to avoid needed treatment is get regular trims and don't overdo the blowdrying and curling irons/flatirons. And avoid tons of sun exposure, protect your hair in the summer sun.
Go to a professional for your haircoloring, too many try to save a few bucks by do at home haircolor then end up at the salon paying twice as much to fix the mistakes.
I've been a licensened hairdresser since 1990 and am going back into working in a salon in 2 months when I quit dancing.
The biggest problem as a hairdresser was fixing mistakes, whether it was color correction or a bad haircut elsewhere, that was majority of business.

Pamela, if you love ST. Ives lotion, have you ever tried their Hair Repair Deep Conditioner? I love that stuff...it smells great and minty, leaves my scalp tingling, and is inexpensive!
All the rest of the stuff I use on my hair I get from the salon, but the St. Ives Hair Repair has beat just about all the deep conditioning products I've bought there.

    Thanks NawtyGirl,
No, i have never tried it before. But may. I need to be careful not to dull the bonde out of my hair. I put highlights in again. Loreal is made for lightened hair or coloured. I love them.
I will check out ST. Ives hair repair however. Thanks again.

I wish Loreal would sell the conditioner packet found in there hair color boxes separately. I use it as sparingly as possible so as to make it last. I have found that Neutrogena conditioner's come as close as I have found to those little tube's found it the hair dye kit's. I have also used Emu oil in my hair, lightly as a leave in with some nice result's.

At Sally Beauty Supply, they sell the large bottle of what would be the "Feria" Conditioner. I think it is $6.99!!! I always find it next to the L'oreal hair colour at my Sally's. It is the exact same conditioner

Big yeah on the Aveda products! My best friend of 15 yrs is a beautician. If I had a knickle for every time that girl told me to conditions I swear I would be a bloody millionaire!

Especially working around all of that smoke all the time! Don't forget raw egg, and Beer. rinse one can every two weeks, and believe it or not Suave is an excellant chemical stripper for hairspray/jell etc.

Chelle is correct, Suave products are also well known for dulling coloured hair. Fading blonde. They are harsh. Better than buying a clarifying shampoo. So is Breck, as can be V05 shampoos.

I just mix baking soda in with my shampoo to strip the hair product buildup out. Costs nothing and is pretty gentle on the hair colour (Dark brown with light auburn highlights).

I told my stylist that and he laughed and said "oh yeah, that works better than most of the clarifying shampoos... but I wouldn't sell so much stuff if people knew those tricks!" LOL.

The absolute BEST conditioner I have found amoung all the salon brands is Graham Webb Colour Locking conditioner. It's not a big name yet, but as I have very long, very blonde hair, and always struggle with dryness, and this stuff is fabulous!!! I even use a tiny bit as a leave in sometimes too. Best shit I've ever used!

Also, I totally agree on the Aveda comments. That line is great, smells great, and works wonders on your hair.
I never ever recommend using ANY drugstore products on your hair if it has been chemically treated. (If you have virgin hair,,,go for it) Including gels, sprays, colours, cleansing, conditioning etc. There is a reason why it is cheaper... less quality ingredients and more "fillers" and chemicals. The little bit of baking soda trick mentioned, however, is a good one that most stylists will agree with.

Again, the single "must have" product for dry hair... Silk Therapy by Biosilk. ANother lesser known salon brand... the stuff is a conditioning, nourishing frizz controlller and my god does it ever make your hair fell like silk!! Can be used on very dry skin too!

    Happy hunting!

I agree that shampooing once weekly may be a good idea, I shampoo twice weekly because I sweat alot working out and I just do a conditioner rinse thru the rest of the week. I have kinky curly hair, so I've had a terrible time finding a conditioner to tame this wild beast. I like Matrix-Biolage conditioning balm which can be found at Ulta stores or Supercuts/Regis type salons. It's also kinda pricey. I also do the VO5 thing before I shampoo. I have a friend who has long, straight, fine hair and colors it and she uses Bain De Terre recovery complex serum as a leave in. That stuff is pricey and hard to find (Ulta, some salons and Smith's stores). Keep in mind that frequency/amount of product may be different, depending on your hair type. Good Luck!

Ooooooohhh yes Biosilk is GREAT stuff. I've finally found a place to order my Kerastase and I am a happy girl! I love that stuff!

But I'm going to have to try the avocado thing and I'm also curious about the raw egg and beer stuff. How does that work? Raw eggs and beer together, or separately or what? I've also heard mayonaisse can be really good for your hair - not the Miracle Whip crap but regular mayo - makes sense cuz mayo is full of fat!

Use the beer seperate as a rinse. It leaves your hair very soft. The eggs you beat in a bowl and then rinse through your hair. Leave in for about a minute or so and then rinse. They are good this way because of all the protein.

You are right same with the real mayo it is great because of the fat content. The baking soda paste is great as well.

So many at home reciepies work well. For blondes light tea rinses, for brunettes, dark tea rinses. And vitamin D whole milk, is great for your body. It's a mild skin bleach, eye whitener!
Warm olive oil is fantastic for any type hair! Mayo contains lots of oils in it, which are also good for the hair.
What is usually good for your face, works for your hair when it comes to home recipies. Even Crisco is great for the skin over a warm water steam. As it is also good for the hair, just shampoo it out.
I took a yogurt bath, and smeared alot all over my hair! It is wonderful! Smooths skin, and made my hair soft.
Egg whites tighten skin for hours! They tend to dry my hair some though. As for the beer rinse, i think it is good, it does leave a small odour on my hair, and since i am blonde, also dulls it some. I had no luck with that one.

I agree about the beer smell. I had never heard about the olive oil thing though...you just warm it and rub it in? do you leave it on for a certain amount of time or rinse right out? Certain type of olive oil work better?
