    Default Foot Care

    Hi Ladies,

I was wanting to know some of the techniques you use to keep your feet soft and calluses free in between pedicures.

I usually get pedicures every other week but, I'm starting to notice some rough skin under my big toe, both feet. I know its from rubbing against the side of my shoes all night but what can I do to prevent this?

    Thanks,
    Tori

    Hi Tori,
Avon has a great package you can buy CHEAP!!!! Has all the goodies, includung a pumice stone to rub along rough edges of your foot! And a nice alpha hydroxy lotion (i use it on my face at times...lol,) to help slough off dead skin cells that may be building up. The package is great for sore and calloused feet!
Also i will go to a store and buy the shoe inserts for callouses, blisters ect. Stick them on the spots that are rubbing against your shoes. I have even found relief with a simple band aid for emergencies.
If you just purchased a new shoe, that can be starting your problem as well, i always find dancing shoes are best for my feet if they are a tad too big. And they are not hard to work in!! Just snug enough!
Soak your feet after a hard nights work! And rub your lotion on your feet before bedtime and sleep with cozy socks on!!! (not sexy) but your feet will love you for it. I have a terrible fetish for good looking feet!!! :o

A pumice stone will do wonders. Typically, I soak my feet in a tub of warm water with a little bit of epsom salt in it for about 10 mins or so. If you have one of those foot bath massagers that they use at the salon, those are great since they'll keep the water warm for you, as well (plus they are, oh, so relaxing ) Then, I'll use the pumice stone all over my feet, paying particular attention to the especially rough spots. It will help to slough off the plain old dead skin cells as well as help to at least diminish any appearance of callouses. Next, I dry off my feet and slather them with a good moisturizer. The best moisturizer I've found has to be Vaseline Intensive Care. I've used other more expensive ones, but I've most definitely found this to be the best.

I wouldn't recommend doing this whole routine after a long night of dancing, though. If you were to go out and dance all night (or any other activity which really wears at your feet) you are building up the callouses by putting pressure and/or irritation on a certain spot. To go home right away and work on that same spot with the pumice stone would only cause more wear on that same spot which, I believe, would not help matters. However, to simply go home at night and simply soak your feet, as Pamela said, would most definitely work wonders.

Also, I know a lot of poeple who will rub vaseline on callouses and/or seriously dry skin - whether it be on their toes or on their hands - before they go to bed and put little plastic sandwich-type bags over the relevant body part while they sleep. I've heard that it works wonders, though I, myself, have not tried it. Personally, I can't have anything on my feet when I sleep or I'll wake up feeling like I'm in a sauna. So if you're like me, then this may not be the thing for you. But, otherwise, I say give it a shot. Definitely can't hurt. Hope this was of some use!

Hi Tori, i posted earlier to your request but don't know what happened. Sorry.
Here is what i do to keep my feet healthy. First i buy Avons foot package...it's great! Comes with a pumice stone to smooth out your rough edges, a nice foot massaging brush as well as a alpha hydroxy lotion to keep dead skin cells off your feet. I use the package 4 nights a week after or before work. Also i sometimes soak my feet in warm salt water....and then rub the lotion all over them, put comfy socks on and sleep with them on (not sexy, but sure feels good)
For your working with the rough spots and shoes, i find that buying the cheap strips for calouses and blisters works great when i put them over any sore spots before putting my shoes on. And.....i buy my shoes a tad bigger than my feet are! I can still walk and dance fine. And when at home, go bare foot as much as you can inside your home (not outside...bees Ouch!) Feet love to be bare, and wearing 3 or higher inch shoes is just not good for them. Sometime i walk tip toe, and dance barefoot as well just to circulate blood flow and have them exercised naturally. I do however love my pumice stone to rub across dry or rough spots. And lotion feels so good. Try it!

The girls have already given you some great advice-as a pumice stone is a wonder tool. I'd just like to add one more that I consider a godsend for just about every part of my body-but especially my feet-a paraffin wax bath! The baths themselves are going pretty cheap now and I absolutely love mine- even recently found scented waxes online (vanilla-yum).

I find nothing more relaxing after getting home from a long night of dancing. I do the wax dip, wrap my feet with the baggies that come with the baths to keep the heat in, and relax on the couch for a few-does a great job of softening and moisterizing.

Pumice stone. In extreme cases, a foot file. Epsom salt soaks. Peppermint lotion - softens and invigorates, while the massage improves circulation. Careful trimming of toenails - especially the big one - to avoid painful ingrowns. Might try keeping around a tube of Lamisil as a precautionary measure - a lot of stripper shoes are made of cheap materials that can promote fungal growth. Plus, you never know what kind of fungi and bacteria could be crawling on the dressing room floors and in the showers. Fungus will make your feet start seeming calloused in its early stages.

Try sleeping with 100% cotton socks on your feet after slathering them in the richest lotion you can find. It's an old lady trick, but it works.

If it gets really bad u can use a callous/corn scraper or shaver thingy like the one they use at the salon. Be careful and use short little strokes to shave the rough areas off a little at a time, but always soak feet first. They sell em evrywhere like walmart, kmart, target, and beauty supply stores for from $4 to $20. Finish up with a pumice stone.

If it's from your shoes, you should get better shoes, or maybe put moleskin into the parts of your shoes that give you trouble.

For foot lotion, Keihls makes a great one. Thick and very nice. I really like just about all the Keihls stuff. You can get it at Nordstrom.

The other day I realized my feet are horrible!!! Guys used to love my feet and they still tell me they are cute, but wearing platforms has killed them! Has anyone else noticed this? A salon pedicure helps temporarily, but my feet have definitely changed. My feet ache at the end of a night and are callused, I just got a pedicure and they look great, but not for long. The old saying is dancers do have terrible feet.

I'd be interested in finding out if anyone has shoes that don't hurt their feet much?
